IBM is predicting that Steam-Punk will be the next trend.
You might said, beside LENR will probably make Steam energy more common, that it is not important for LENR.
I dare to tell you it is a KEY FEELING. It is explained to day that steam punk is trendy among less than 30 years old prople. What is fashion for older people today ?
I dare to says that it is depressive, Malthusian, anti-technology, anti-medecine, guiltness-loving, ideology. It is clear in marketing, in media, today.
Steampunk , I dare to interpret it, is a reaction to that no-future groupthink.
As a guy raised in the 70s, I've seen the end of technology love in mainstream media... Ok there is gadget and consumer culture, but less and less Startrek, love of atomic fkying car, of tasty fluorescent food, of solving-all pill, of moon walking... all that today is evil, toxic or wasted-wealth.Originally Posted by a young brain

Funny to see how mainstream ideology of depression and guiltness is uncomfortable with a positive mythology that refuse to celebrate the darkness, and prefer to celebrate enthusiasm, ingeniosity, belief in progress of humanity by technology, dare to go beyond the frontier. What is Steampunk?
...So, steampunk is a genre and a design aesthetic.
But wait, there’s more! Steampunk has a philosophical angle as well, which is somewhat of a combination between the maker ideals of creativity and self-reliance and the Victorian optimistic view of the future. This last bit has led to accusations that steampunk includes a fair amount of empire worship, which is a reasonable concern. Another criticism has been that steampunk focuses on the best of the past and quietly sweeps the bad (i.e. slavery, child labor, widespread disease, etc.). Again, this may be a valid criticism and it is somethat that steampunk will have to address. Paul Jessup’s piece “The Future of Steampunk” offers a good discussion of these issues.
Final answer: steampunk is a genre AND a design aesthetic AND a philosophy.
As you can see on 21st century waves, we are not far from a great Maslow window.
