"Exploring new frontiers in the pulsed power laboratory: Recent progress"

    Abstract:
One of the most fundamental processes in the Universe, nucleosynthesis of elements drives energy production in stars as well as the creation of all atoms heavier than hydrogen. To harness this process and open new ways for energy production, we must recreate some of the extreme conditions in which it occurs. We present results of experiments using a pulsed power facility to induce collective nuclear interactions producing stable nuclei of virtually every element in the periodic table. A high-power electron beam pulse striking a small metallic target is used to create the extreme dynamic environment. Material analysis studies detect an anomalously high presence of new chemical elements in the remnants of the exploded target supporting theoretical conjectures of the experiment. These results provide strong motivation to continue our research looking for additional proofs that heavy element nucleosynthesis is possible in pulsed power laboratory.

  • Actually, the energetics of these simple fusions, such as p + p and so on is completely favorable, that is exothermic. The problem is simply overcoming the activation barrier, which is generally very high here on Earth. However, CF and LENR suggest that this activation barrier can be relatively easily undermined or "tunneled" through. That is "catalysis" is effective here just as it is in many purely chemical situations.

Their mission and technology are described -

Our company, Proton Scientific, Inc. was established in 2012 acquiring patented, fusion-grade device and technology for further development and commercialization in the USA. We pursue our mission by conducting laboratory experiments and advanced computer simulations based on the theory that super-concentrated electron energy beams can create the conditions needed for fusion to occur. Our “Thunderbird” device is a pulsed-power generator capable of producing a concentrated power burst equal to 12 billion watts. In the next five years we will control and optimize the process to initiate a self-sustaining fusion reaction. We envision using our technology to create a commercial power plant to provide low-cost, clean energy to the world.

  • "activation barrier can be relatively easily undermined"

Yes it can for p + p fusion. Recreation of the extreme conditions in space is not necessary.
I watched a tv program dealing with extraterrestrial coaching and along with Tesla am somewhat open minded on the subject. These ideas must have some origin. Okay we're being coached but too stupid to do much other than replicate replicate replicate. Hope our coaches are patient it may take a few hundred years.

  • Thanks for the reminder, "fusionist", but....

As you may already know, activation barriers are undermined continously in any chemical or petrochemical processing plant and in any living organism. No extra-terrestrials or aliens required. Basic catalytic chemistry. "Controlled" hot fusion efforts following the poorly controlled "success" at Eniwetok [now Enewetak] may very accurately be viewed as failing to make use of the available tools to overcome activation energy "barriers", including coulomb repulsion. Chemists, chemical engineers [and even enzymologists] long ago learned that for high activation barriers, more heat, more pressure, more concentration are not necessarily the best answers, and are often not the answer at all.

We are rapidly approaching the time when at least some of the many reported "over unity" results for "cold fusion", LENR, CANR etc. may be shown to represent one form or another of such "tunneling" or undermining of a very large activation barrier.

As we know, that large barrier is accompanied by a much larger exothermic energy yield.

The distances of dozens if not thousands of light years to likely extraterrestrial "aliens" who might help us along, means it surely will be way too late.
