    Neutron Energy Bands in the Compound and Composite CF Materials -Speculation on the Bases of the TNCF and ND Models -+


    Abstract:


    Using a phenomenological approach by the TNCF (trapped neutron catalyzed fusion) and the ND (neutron drop) models, we have given a unified explanation of the complex features of the cold fusion phenomenon (CFP). In the phenomenological approach, the necessary and sufficient condition for the cold fusion phenomenon (CFP) has been established as the formation of the neutron energy bands in the super-lattice of host elements and the hydrogen isotopes realized by the self-organization in complexity. In this paper, the bases and applicability of the TNCF and the ND models are investigated in the CF materials with rather complicated structures in the compound (multilayered materials and materials on substrates with interfaces) and composite (alloys, ceramics and polymers) structures investigated very often recently. In the investigation we used analogy of the neutron energy bands (neutron bands) to the electron energy bands (electron bands). The neutron bands in the compound CF materials are investigated with reference to the electron bands in PN junctions. On the other hand, the neutron bands in the composite materials are investigated with reference to the characteristics of the electron bands in alloys at around symmetrical points in the Brillouin zone. The analogy between the electron bands and the neutron bands legitimates qualitatively the use of the concepts of the neutron bands for investigation of the CFP in compound and composite CF materials. In the investigation of the neutron band in alloys, we noticed two kinds of effects of 2 the minor elements to the CFP, active (or positive) elements including the 3d and 4d transition elements and inactive (negative) elements including other than those in the active ones. The former enhances the nuclear reactions in the CFP and the latter reduces them. Direct evidence of this classification was given by experimental data by Claytor et al. and indirect evidence was given by the HER (hydrogen electrode reaction) and the UPD (underpotential deposition) in the electrochemistry. This problem will be discussed extensively in another paper. It is shown that the effects of the interfaces of the CF materials on the CFP are essential to induce the nuclear reactions between the neutrons in the bands and nuclei at disordered positions generated by the thermal motion, by the statistical distribution at a finite temperature, and by the specific situation at around interfaces.

    Whether Cold Fusion or Low-Energy Nuclear Reactions, U.S. Navy Researchers Reopen Case

    Spurred on by continued anomalous nuclear results, multiple labs now working to get to bottom of story


    After more than three decades of simmering debate in specialized physics groups and fringe research circles, the controversy over cold fusion (sometimes called low-energy nuclear reactions or LENRs) refuses to go away. On one hand, ardent supporters have lacked the consistent, reproducible results and the theoretical underpinning needed to court mainstream acceptance. On the other, vehement detractors cannot fully ignore the anomalous results that have continued to crop up, like the evidence for so-called “lattice-confinement fusion” adduced last year by a group at NASA’s Glenn Research Center.


    Scientists at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division have pulled together a group of Navy, Army, and National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) labs to try and settle the debate. Together, the labs will conduct experiments in an effort to establish if there’s really something to the cold fusion idea, if it’s just odd chemical interactions, or if some other phenomenon entirely is taking place in these controversial experiments.

    'To date, nuclear batteries, which theoretically are capable of roughly a million times more energy density than traditional chemical-based power sources, have been proven at the prototype-level to exceed chemical based sources by at least one order of magnitude.

    These prototype sources could potentially provide power for micron/nano-systems for decades,

    uninterrupted, at levels below one milliwatt per cubic centimeter.

    Certain applications that require continuously higher levels of current, e.g. for powering light-emitting diodes or electric motors,may not be a good fit for nuclear batteries,

    however many lowerpower applications could potentially benefit from and have new
    capabilities enabled by nuclear batteries

    Hideo Kozima is sharing his "Cold Fusion News" publication in English through his ResearchGate Account. He is mainly analyzing recent media articles or broadcasts on the topic and providing and analysis from his perspective. I just took a look at the latest issue (March 20th 2021) and found it very interesting as there are media coverage of Cold fusion I had no idea had taken place, commented.

    A quantitative light-isotope measurement system for climate and energy applications


    Abstract

    We describe the design, operation, and performance of a new instrumental configuration capable of quantitative determinations with sub-picomole accuracy of dilute concentrations of low mass species, such as , , , and , in a balance of stable hydrogen (H2, DH, and D2) gas. This inexpensive system may realize important applications in fields ranging from climate studies to hydrogen fusion energy research, thereby providing an expanded availability of this diagnostic within emerging energy systems research and development. These spectra, calibration curves, and determinations were obtained by using a novel method for the purification and subsequent removal of the hydrogen matrix gas, and an extensively modified commercial Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometer with an electron impact (EI) ionizer. These high-resolution FT-ICR mass spectrometers have routinely achieved a resolution, R = m/Δm better than 10,000 Da at mass-3, with a mass resolution that scales as 1/m. These devices have easily resolved D2 from , and DH from . The performance of this upgraded instrument has demonstrated the ability to detect impurities from tiny air leaks, such as and , in the presence of the hydrogen matrix gas. While no concentration measurements of radioactive species have been attempted to date with this system, it is expected to easily resolve DT from D2H (a 0.0059 Da mass difference) and HT from all other mass-4 species.

    Monitoring Active Sites for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction at Model Carbon Surfaces

    Abstract

    Carbon is ubiquitous as an electrode material in electrochemical energy conversion devices. If used as support material, the evolution of H2 is undesired on carbon. However, recently carbon-based materials are of high interest as economic and eco-conscious alternative to noble metal catalysts. The targeted design of improved carbon electrode materials requires atomic scale insight into the structure of the sites that catalyse H2 evolution. This work demonstrates that electrochemical scanning tunnelling microscopy under reaction conditions (n-EC-STM) can monitor active sites of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite for the hydrogen evolution reaction. With down to atomic resolution, the most active sites in acidic medium are pinpointed near edge sites and defects, whereas the basal planes remain inactive. Density functional theory calculations support these findings and reveal that only specific defects on graphite are active. Motivated by these results, the extensive usage of n-EC-STM on doped carbon-based materials is encouraged to locate their active sites and guide the synthesis of enhanced electrocatalysts.

    Abstract

    A low energy nuclear reactor (LENR) is provided for producing thermal energy. The LENR includes first and second vessels and an ignitor. The first vessel defined a first chamber containing LENR fuel. The second vessel disposed inside the first vessel defines a second chamber containing exothermic material. The ignitor initiates the exothermic material by sparking. The LENR fuel reacts to produce the thermal energy in response to initiation heat from the exothermic material.

    Recently published (February 2021) Report of 1989-91 experimental validation of weak neutron emissions by research team a TU Dresden, Germany, published by D. Seeliger through ResearchGate.


    They focused on, and were able to validate, weak neutron emissions.


    “This is a summary report recollecting some results on the weak neutron production caused by possible deuteron-deuteron nuclear reactions in condensed matter carried out at the Technical University Dresden from April 1989 until December 1991. The aim of this report is twofold:

    - It shows, that already in the starting phase of exploration some information about the evidence

    and mechanism of nuclear reactions in condensed matter had been obtained - just as one

    example for early results, which had been reported by several other laboratories too, at that time. - The author wants to express his gratitude to all members of the former team, remembering their

    highly engaged work for this project - professors, senior scientists, assistants, PhD-Students and technicians.”

    I think this is an interesting report for the historic value and the acknowledgment that the phenomena is important even if not understood and that it is a shame it was so quickly dismissed by consensus.

    the funding in East Germany 30 years ago was probably more generous than now

    .. big Pd cylinder Z8 (D34,7 mm, L45,4 mm, 518,.3 grams!!!

    Its good to see that Seeliger still thinks his results were valid...

    perhaps he needs to catch up with all the new developmnents,,
