Dear CF colleagues [and hopefully an electrical or two]:

    1. Am reviving something successfully begun years ago:

Cold Fusion (LANR) Experimental Research Rounds

Consider starting with us Friday, September 23, 2022 in

    a tele-conference between colleagues pursuing active CF/LANR

scientific, engineering work. Science and engineering rounds.

If interested (and still permittted/allowed to speak to fellow scientists),

join at [email protected] for further updates.

This is not limited to CMNS, but is open ... like the CF/LANR Colloquia at MIT.

    2. Also, in October+ will restart the (bi)monthly meetings in

Wellesley/Cambridge area over lunch discussing both theoretical

and experimental LANR. Pizza or sushi and LANR. What can go wrong?

Stay safe, and hopefully make lots of clean incremental excess energy,

    Mitchell Swartz

NASA’S VOYAGER 1 is on a fraught and unknowable journey into deep space. Some 14.6 billion miles from Earth, it and its sister craft, Voyager 2, are the furthest human-made objects from our planet, having made it beyond the edges of the Solar System and out into the interstellar medium. At such distances, anything can go wrong. Add to that the fact that these are old craft: The Voyagers launched in the 1970s. So when Voyager 1 started to send home weird, garbled nonsense instead of telemetry data in May of this year, NASA engineers might have been forgiven for calling it a day and pouring one out for perhaps the most successful space mission of all time.

  • Has been a while since I did my usual LENR papers quasi periodic (or whenever I feel the itch, to be more precise) and just found this one in which our Brazilian Nuclear Engineer Luciano Ondir Freire took part:

Critical Survey on Cold Fusion: Aneutronic Chain Reactions or Collective Effects?

After decades of research and intriguing observations, the cold fusion field still lacks a comprehensive model capable of explaining or predicting experimental results. Without proposing a specific theory, this work aims at narrowing down the search space to facilitate the creation of a workable model. The methodology we have used involved seven steps. The first step proposed that cold fusion is caused by either aneutronic chain reactions or by collective effects. The second step identified four different scenarios and considered their relative likelihood of being true or false. The third step identified the common characteristics, or “experimental facts”, found in various cold fusion laboratory tests. The fourth step attempted to predict the “experimental facts” by using each of the four scenarios and to identify for each scenario, the enabling conditions required to make each scenario true. The fifth step searched for confirmation of each enabling condition in the cold fusion literature. The sixth step used published experimental results to validate and evaluate the relative importance of each enabling condition. The seventh and final step ascertained the probability of each scenario being the proper explanation of cold fusion. Using the above seven step process in conjunction with most of the published cold fusion literature has resulted in the conclusion that chain reactions acting in conjunction with collective effects best describes a workable model for Cold Fusion and yields the best fit to published “experimental facts”. As a further aid in evaluating Cold Fusion results, we present a set of questions that can be used to channel future research and thereby make it more productive.

    Abstract

It is shown that artificial radioactivity can be initiated under conditions of a glow-discharge plasma. When analyzing the isotopic and elemental composition in the near-surface region of Pd

and Ni cathodes, initial and those treated for 40 hours under conditions of deuterium- or protium-containing plasma, changes were detected, respectively, in the isotopic ratios of Pt and Pb impurity isotopes in the Pd cathode and of Fe, Cu, and Znin the Ni cathode, as well as a significant reduction in the amount of these impurity elements in the cathodes and the formation of W isotopes in the Pd cathode. Possible nuclear processes that cause the established artificial radioactivity are considered.

    Abstract

In our previous and recent publications related with Cold nuclear fusion experiments and theory, we have made an attempt to explain the mystery of origin of energy liberation mechanism in cold nuclear fusion. In this paper, by applying and slightly modifying the cold nuclear experimental procedures, we try to explore the possibility of understanding and producing Gold with Tungsten like heavy and cheap metals via ‘safe and secured’ Hydration mechanism having fast and repeatable cycles in small quantities. Thus, we are providing an experimental procedure for understanding the scope of cold nuclear fusion in a metallurgical perceptive. Really, if ‘cold nuclear fusion’ is having any notable significance in current science and technology, as it seems to be endowed with nuclear isotopic changes, apart from energy liberation mechanisms, it can be studied and validated in this way also. It needs further study with respect to modern metallurgical methods having 3000 deg. C and recent ‘ambient temperature lattice confinement’ technique developed by NASA. Considering the green and clean innovative applications of cold nuclear fusion, as suggested and advised by the Google team and NASA, we appeal the science community to look into the issues of cold nuclear fusion in a positive approach.

I certainly Hope to see LENR helping humans to blossom, and I'm here to help it happen.

It means I won't have to keep taking in chemical laundry from outside companies to keep the lab running and can concentrate on something closer to my heart than working out why some shoe-soles come unglued in hot weather (sweaty feet) and how to stop stainless steel kitchen appliances showing finger marks (sweaty fingers). SECURING THE UK's VEHICLE BATTERY MATERIAL SUPPLY

In the UK and all over the world governments and industries are building huge 'gigafactories' to make batteries for electric vehicles. The dramatic expansion of this entirely new battery market is causing concern amongst industry specialists, who worry about the looming shortage of key battery raw materials.

Net Zero Scientific Ltd. (NSZ) has discovered and is developing a novel and very green way of producing on a large scale one major battery ingredient, high purity aluminium oxide (HPA), from low-value manufacturing and other wastes. The process creates no emissions and is a unique source of truly 'net zero' HPA, a strategic raw material with no UK source at all. The world market for this material, first mined as bauxite clay far away then refined and processed using energy intensive and polluting methods is forecast to expand from 25,000 tonnes a year to over 250,000 tonnes a year by 2030, while the average price is expected to hover around £38,000/tonne through the decade. The NZS technology promises good profits, creates a secure domestic supply, cuts waste by boosting the circular economy, and makes a serious contribution to the UK's task of achieving net zero .

HPA is already used for making LED lights, flat-screen TV's and synthetic gemstones, but its usefulness in both current lithium and next-generation sodium vehicle batteries is based on trials that show using HPA as a coating material for plate-separators in batteries improves almost every aspect of their performance, they can be charged and discharged faster, have less need for battery cooling systems, and have a longer life. So EV's get cheaper and still more efficient and durable.

Net Zero Scientific's proprietary technology can make the UK entirely self-sufficient in zero-carbon HPA, thus giving us a local source of material for battery manufacture, one not dependent on trade deals and long-haul shipping. Thus it will reduce the need for imports, cut costs and emissions and help to reduce both land-fill and the export of 'difficult' waste for dumping in the developing world.

A review of Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (Cold Fusion) with Dr. Edmund Storms

In this episode I start my investigation into the Cold Fusion controversy. In 1989 Pons & Fleischmann announced in a hastily convened press conference, the discovery of a new clean energy source that would revolutionize power grids and save humanity from climate change. They had measured the production of excess heat and neutrons in a room temperature electrolytic reaction using heavy water and a palladium cathode. It shortly became evident that their claims were not entirely correct. After many attempts it was discovered that their experiment could not be replicated and mainstream science dismissed Cold Fusion as a pathological science. Despite this lack of acceptance, many have continued to try to replicate their work and strike it rich. Now after more than 30 years, a pattern of unexplained anomalous results has emerged from the rubble. Is there something to the newly renamed Low Energy Nuclear Reactions field? I’m interviewing an expert who has been involved in reviewing the work in this field since the very beginning.

Edmund Storms obtained a Ph.D. in radiochemistry from Washington University (St. Louis) and is retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory after thirty-four years of service. His work involved basic research in the field of high temperature chemistry as applied to materials used in nuclear power and propulsion reactors. He presently lives in Santa Fe where he is investigating the "cold fusion" effect in his own laboratory. An authority in the field he has published 2 books, over 100 papers and four complete scientific reviews of the field over the years. In May 1993, he was invited to testify before a congressional committee about the "cold fusion" effect. In 1998, Wired magazine honored him as one of the 25 people in the US who is making a significant contribution to new ideas. He was awarded the Preparata Medal by the International Society of Condensed Matter Nuclear Science and honored as Distinguished Scientist by University of Missouri. His large collection of literature about LENR was used to create the website http://www.LENR.org where information about the phenomenon is available. His recent work has focused on understanding LENR and making the effect reproducible.

  • Of interest to anyone trying to hydride metals....

On Wednesday, Mission Hydrogen will host a webinar on one of the most complex and unknown topics of the hydrogen industry: Hydrogen embrittlement.

Almost everybody has heard that hydrogen embrittlement is an issue, and most engineers know that specific types of steel must be used to avoid it. However, these steels are much more expensive than others and difficult to machine.

Some engineers just use “regular” stainless steel, stating “everything works fine, we have no problem”. Others claim that “you need steel with 14% nickel, otherwise you might get into trouble.” The largest hydrogen pipeline in Germany – 120km long and in operation since 1938 – is made from carbon steel without any embrittlement issues.

Who is right? When do we need a high nickel content? What happens if we use the wrong type of steel, and what happens if our welding procedures are not appropriate?

With more than 100 scientific publications, the leading expert for hydrogen embrittlement, material selection and welding is Prof. Milos Djukic from the University of Belgrade, Serbia.

In one of his recent papers, he describes the current state of the art in hydrogen embrittlement research: “A fully developed and practically applicable predictive physical mechanism model still does not exist. Most often, a multidisciplinary approach, based on the use of different advanced experimental-laboratory methods, theoretical and quantum mechanical models, modern micro-and nano-research, micro-fracture mechanics, atomistic investigations and solid -state physics provides conditions for a much better understanding of extremely complex, multiple and simultaneously active mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement.”

In our webinar on Wednesday at 4pm (Berlin, 7am Los Angeles, 11pm Beijing), Prof. Djukic will explain the mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement, provide guidelines for material selection and – as always – be ready to answer your questions.
