Know what these sort of lines look like and where they are on the axes. y = 3, x = -6, y = x + 3, x + y = 5
e.g. Draw the graph of y = -0.5x - 3
Find the gradient of a line using a graph. e.g. Look at a line y = 2x + 1 on a graph. Measure the gradient of the line
Find the gradient of a line without a graph by knowing 2 points the line goes through. e.g. A line passes through the points (2 , 5) and (5 , 17). What is the gradient of the line
Know the formula y = mx + c and understand that m = gradient and c = y-intercept. Work out the gradient and y-intercept from the equation of a line without the graph. e.g. What is the gradient and y-intercept of the line y = 4x+2
Know the formula y = mx + c and understand that m = gradient and c = y-intercept. Match graphs of straight lines to their equations. e.g. If you have 3 straight line graphs drawn, match them to y = 2x+1, y+x = 4, y = -3x-5
