I return to my mantras about the antivaccine movement in the age of COVID-19: There is nothing new under the sun (in antivaccine circles), and everything old is new again (when it comes to antivaccine conspiracy theories and disinformation). Even the most obscure antivaccine pseudoscience and conspiracy theories are being resurrected, dusted off, tweaked a bit, and repurposed to use to attack COVID-19 vaccines. There doesn’t need to be any evidence or even biological plausibility, just science-y speculation that sounds impressive to people without a background in the relevant sciences. Classen’s claim that mRNA vaccines can cause prion disease leading to neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease is just another example of this.

With Classen’s claim, I’m hard pressed to think of an old antivaccine trope that hasn’t yet been weaponized against COVID-19 vaccines, with one exception. No one, to my knowledge, has yet claimed that COVID-19 vaccines cause autism. The reason for that omission is simple, however. As of today, no COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for use in children. As soon as a COVID-19 vaccine is authorized or approved for use in children, antivaxxers will claim it causes autism. It’s coming. You know it is.

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began and antivaxxers made common cause with COVID-19 cranks, deniers, and conspiracy theorists, I’ve been repeating a simple message: Everything old is new again. Bart Classen to thank for this disinformation and antivaxxers like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for spreading it.

First, let’s show how his claim is yet another example of my adage regarding disinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine that “everything old is new again”.

If you find frightening info about covid vaccines which is only propagated by people who have a prior record as publish random speculation and lies antivaxxers - it will be false.

The author takes several outlier theories, discredits and mocks them, then concludes all controversy over the COVID vaccine's effectiveness, and dangers are no more worthy of serious debate. And that those who dare challenge the official narrative that the vaccines are a one size fits all solution for all age groups, are conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxxers and nut jobs. Hmmm...sounds a bit like your modus operandi come to think of it.

Would that have changed public policy? Would moms be lining up with their children to be vaxxed if they saw those stats? Teachers unions insist their students do the same? Broad, and sweeping vaccine mandates...get it or be fined, punished, ridiculed? Would our military, composed of the most fit, command their troops get vaxxed?

My guess is that no, it would not have changed anything because the political component of our pandemic policies in many cases took priority over the science. Unfortunately, too many of those responsible for our health needs decided it was better to go along to get along, and buried their heads in the sand.

And just like all the people that got a jab in the past- "to help them' and then found it with the Ads virus and misplaced documents from the CDC

Shane - have you read the detailed scientific demolition of the argument about THIS THEORY (which comes after the historical stuff)?

Suggest you do that, carefully. Like I told you to in my post.

The problem with having highly evolved political antenna is that you parse everything as politics.

Don't help much when looking at science.

But it is a good time-saver when looking at antivaxxer lies (as I've pointed out).

I am not saying all negative comments about vaccines are antivaxxer lies - for from it. I have demarcated quite clearly the differences.

Just, on this thread, most of what gets posted is sensationalist from antivaxxers, rather than boring and nuanced and science.

The antivaxxers stories (like this one - that covid might cause CJD) are repetitive (like every vaccine gets the same story) and devoid of science.

Find me somone advocating a scare story who does not advocate lots of other unrelated vaccine scare stories - then it might be they have some real science.

As an example of non-antivaxxer anti-vaccine you could note (as I have) that:

• The MRNA vaccines are more highly reactogenic than many vaccines (though not exceptionally so)
• They seem to get more reactogenic with repeated doses
• Therefore are not very suitable in current form as a yearly top-up vaccine.

Well I didn't know you were an expert at medical diagnostics or I would have run this by you. I believe those who wrote the study are experts in the field and reported on diagnosed cases after vaccination. Did you bother to read the study or just react to the title? By the way, don't you think everything on the forum is pseudoscience?

I don't think any of the so called experts have read about Enovid, a new nasal spray that counteracts SARS-CoV-2, among other viruses, is now on sale in Israel. Studies have shown it to be effective in preventing Covid infections. I don't think the vaccines are very good at Preventing infections. Enovid has not even been considered by the FDA, CDC or the NIH. WHY?

The Mean Time Unwell is not specified in the trial registration but is considered to be the primary outcome in the publication:

I had heard that the FDA will decide on the Pfizer and Modern shots for children under 5 in a few days, and then potentially start giving them a week after that. But it smells like this is already preordained.

We know that when a vaccine goes on the recommended list for childhood vaccines, the vaccine company then becomes free of liability for damage done by that vaccine to both children and adults.

Serious consideration of alternatives like Enovid would just get in the way of this process, and they wouldn't want that to happen would they!
