FDA OKs antiviral drug remdesivir for non-hospitalized COVID patients

    https://www.axios.com/covid-fda-remdesivir-treatment-944617a0-24a6-4be6-a722-2e517a4cf697.html

The Food and Drug Administration on Friday authorized the antiviral drug remdesivir as a treatment for some non-hospitalized adults and pediatric patients with mild to moderate COVID symptoms.

Why it matters: The move expands use of remdesivir, previously limited to only patients who were hospitalized, and comes as doctors face shortages of FDA-authorized treatments, per the Washington Post.

Details: The FDA approved remdesivir as a treatment for infected people ages 12 and older who weigh at least 88 pounds, have exhibited mild to moderate COVID symptoms and are at high risk for progression to severe cases of the virus.

The drug can be administered via intravenous infusion for a total of three days and can help reduce risk of hospitalization for high-risk patients, according to the FDA.

It is, however, not a substitute for vaccination, which the FDA says remains the strongest preventative measure.

What they're saying: "[T]oday’s actions bolster the arsenal of therapeutics to treat COVID-19 and respond to the surge of the Omicron variant," Patrizia Cavazzoni, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said in a statement.

The FDA's approval will give people a treatment option "outside of a traditional inpatient hospital setting, including at skilled nursing facilities, home healthcare settings and outpatient facilities such as infusion centers."

United Kingdom to End Most COVID Restrictions

    trialsitenews.com

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Parliament members today that coronavirus passports and masking mandates will end by January 26 and that all other COVID restrictions would end by March 24.

In remarks to the House of Commons, the primary chamber of the British Parliament, Johnson called for an end to the nation’s “Plan B” COVID restrictions.

As Infections Recede U.K. to Repeal COVID Laws

Johnson made the announcement on the basis that COVID cases appeared to have peaked in England. Infection cases are also being dominated by the less lethal Omicron variant, against which current vaccines are less effective. His comments were met with cheers from Conservative benches.

The United Kingdom reported more than 108,000 new positive Covid tests on Wednesday, compared to about 130,000 a week ago. Cases have been dropping most of this year.

Deaths and hospitalization rates have also fallen.

COVID Passports and Masking Requirements Will End

Johnson told lawmakers that the government would no longer enforce COVID passport or masking requirements in businesses or public spaces, including at schools.

The government is expected to announce rollbacks of other restrictions on travel and health care settings shortly.

Politics, Not Vaccines, May End COVID Era in Britain

Johnson made his comments to shore up waning political support due to his handling of the pandemic. Several political parties have called on his government to resign.

As he announced an end of the COVID era in Britain, Labour Party leaders, trade unions and certain doctors’ groups criticized Johnson’s plan even as opponents of the U.K.’s draconian restrictions supported him.

    COVID Still Divides the World

The announcement comes at a time of widening divisions across the globe. Nations including China, Australia, Austria and Germany appear to be embracing still more draconian vaccine mandates, masking requirements and restrictions on travel and movement within their borders. Meanwhile nations such as Israel, Spain and Cyprus have entertained easing COVID restrictions in recent weeks.

The United States is deeply fractured in its approach with the Supreme Court having recently struck down President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandates for business with a 100 employees or more even as it upheld mandates for federal health care workers. States and cities are also responding in piecemeal fashion to new pandemic developments, with some, including California and New York, persisting with tight restrictions and others, including Florida and Texas, easing COVID rules.

Britain’s course has had outsized impacts on global COVID responses from the start. As early as March 2020 models presented by Professor Neil Ferguson, head of the MRC GIDA team and director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics (J-IDEA) steered the world toward a new complex of rules and restrictions that drove protesters to the streets and led billions to isolate in their homes and behind face masks.

Now that one of the pioneers of the global COVID regime has changed course, other nations across the world will likely reexamine their policies as well. Regardless of what governments decide the COVID era will have lasting impacts, globally, on democratic principles and more general matters of governance including notions of rule of law, individual liberty, due process and appropriate public health responses

    • JWK Corporation and Global Energy Corporation have spent the past two decades understanding and developing Condensed Matter Nuclear Reactions with the US Navy and NASA. This has resulted in a US Patent, 8,419,919 “System and Method Generating Particles”, that has been replicated and published in over 50 peer-reviewed papers. We have observed energetic particles during Pd/D co-deposition [1, 2] including ≥ 1.8 MeV protons (with 15 MeV protons), ≥ 7 MeV alphas, and 2.5 MeV and 14.1 MeV neutrons [3]. These neutrons are energetic enough to fission uranium as was reported in 2016 [4] with an average energy > 6 MeV.
    • Deep space missions are dependent upon 238Pu thermoelectric generators (RTG) providing less than 1 kW of electrical power. With the exception of the solar powered Juno probe, every spacecraft destined past Mars has been RTG dependent. Consequently, deep space missions are power deprived for both instrumentation and propulsion. Indeed, human travel beyond the Earth-Moon system requires nuclear electric propulsion if astronauts are to arrive healthy.
    • Global Energy Corporation (GEC) began developing a non-fissile reactor core suitable for deep-space power. GEC has a second Space Act Agreement with NASA Glenn Research Center to develop a launch-compatible design, operating at the Plum Brook Station facility. Plum Brook has vacuum, acoustic and shake table systems to certify space launch capability. Various electrical power needs range from tens of kilowatts for instruments to over 20 megawatts for human space craft electric propulsion and planetary power. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/sp7…ew=Forsley-Lawrence-1.pdf

Skill-Set and History of the Inventors of the Google LENR Patents

On February 7th 2019 two LENR technology patents assigned to Google Inc. became exposed/published. They were each filed on the same day a year and a half ago, August 3rd 2017. It’s hard to tell how long Google has had these inventors working on developing this LENR energy technology. At least a couple of years before the filing date of the patent, let’s say 2015 or earlier.

Carl Page, the brother of the founder of Google, has been very active for many years at the LENR company Brillouin Energy, Berkeley CA, USA. Both an investor and active agent, he serves on the Technical Advisory Board and is supportive of their ongoing growth, during this important phase, as ‘Brillouin Energy prepares to enter the commercial marketplace’ (press release).

Larry Page, as CEO of ‘Google’ is pursuing an alternate LENR energy technology pathway. The work is being done by a group out of Munday Labs at the University of Maryland. Last year Munday Labs received a lucrative DoD contract for two years of continued research. It makes sense that Google Inc. might develop the technology, through the commercial LENR reactor design phase, in partnership with a private industrial laboratory group in the semi conductor or nano technology industries or in the security of a DoD lab. Time and further investigation will eventually lead to answers for these questions.

The Google LENR energy technology group comes as a surprise to many; which leads to speculation questioning how serious Google is in developing this technology. Yet the possibility of Google investing in the field was alluded to in a 2016 E-Cat World article:

“Of course with his family ties to Google, one wonders how much his younger brother Larry might be paying attention to LENR now. The Alphabet company was formed to let Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin broaden their horizons and explore topics outside the traditional web/search field. Right now they have efforts going in areas such as longevity research, robotics, drone delivery, and capital investment. One wonders if they might see LENR as an important new area of innovation that should be explored.”

Well it seems that Frank Ackland was correct. In fact Google Inc. was most likely working on developing these patents at the time of his article.

I hope this compilation provides information and leads which will set many of these speculations and doubts to rest. The inventors are highly skilled and work in fields that are directly related to LENR research. Professor Munday attended an APS Meeting that held a seminar on cold fusion research. His labs’ research in palladium nanocrystals during hydrogen absorption and desorption, thin metallic films co-depositation, photonics, and plasmonics for energy to nanoscale forces provides experience for work developing SPAWAR/GEC type LENR systems. The Global Energy Corporationhea dquarters are nearby in Virginia. These two groups may know of each other... building on each others works. The Google Inc. Washington D.C. headquarters are close by. Many questions come to mind which will require further investigation, and time, to resolve. The following compilation, at the very least, provides a starting point.

    Abstract

Enhanced Coulomb repulsion screening around light element nuclei is achieved by way of utilizing electromagnetic (EM) radiation to induce plasmon oscillations in target structures (e.g., nanoparticles) in a way that produces high density electron clouds in localized regions of the target structures, thereby generating charge density variations around light element atoms located in the localized regions. Each target structure includes an electrically conductive body including light elements (e.g., a metal hydride/deuteride/tritide) that is configured to undergo plasmon oscillations in response to the applied EM radiation. The induced oscillations causes free electrons to converge in the localized region, thereby producing transient high electron charge density levels that enhance Coulomb repulsion screening around light element (e.g., deuterium) atoms located in the localized regions. Various systems capable of implementing enhanced Coulomb repulsion screening are described, and various nanostructure compositions and configurations are disclosed that serve to further enhance fusion reaction rates.

    Abstract

Enhanced Coulomb repulsion (electron) screening around light element nuclei is achieved by way of utilizing target structures (e.g., nanoparticles) that undergo plasmon oscillation when subjected to electromagnetic (EM) radiation, whereby transient high density electron clouds are produced in localized regions of the target structures during each plasmon oscillation cycle. Each target structure includes an integral body composed of an electrically conductive material that contains light element atoms (e.g., metal hydrides, metal deuterides or metal tritides). The integral body is also configured (i.e., shaped/sized) to undergo plasmon oscillations in response to the applied EM radiation such that the transient high density electron clouds are formed during each plasmon oscillation cycle, whereby brief but significantly elevated charge density variations are generated around light element (e.g., deuterium) atoms located in the localized regions, thereby enhancing Coulomb repulsion screening to enhance nuclear fusion reaction rates. Various target structure compositions and configurations are disclosed.

    • Published on January 26, 2018

This is an ongoing compilation, a chronological list that will be added to as information becomes available. The title and link is provided here: U. S. Government LENR Energy 2018 Review

Reviewing twenty five years of U.S. funded ‘cold fusion’ projects including patents, contracts, publications and public/private sector partnership efforts towards LENR energy applied engineering and LENR energy commercialization.

The government of the United States of America has filed many ‘cold fusion’ patents. These low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) patents take time to develop, often a number of years before filing with a patent office; each being a tedious project unto itself. One patent’s development began with a contract from NSWC, Indian Head Division in 2008, “Deuterium Reactor” US 20130235963 A1, by Pharis Edward Williams. This patent was not filed till 2012, four years later. Another delay can occur between the patent filing date and publication date if the patent is deemed a matter of national security. This may be the case with the 2007 SPAWAR patent, System and Method for Generating Particles - US8419919B1, with a filing date of Sep. 21, 2007 and publication date of Apr. 16, 2013, a delay of six years. Usually a patent gets published (becomes exposed) within one year of the filing date, rarely longer; for a delay of six years there seems no other explanation.

U.S. LENR patent development has been funded through the Air Force, NASA, the Navy and many other Department of Defense labs. The government may retain rights to any of these LENR patents and control licensing agreements. Patent licensing may be granted to those who partnered with government labs in the development of LENR technology, as in the case of SPAWAR JWK LENR technology and the Global Energy Corporation. Included with the patents in this review are U.S. Government funded LENR energy applied engineering programs and presentations, along with a few from related company partners.

A chronological review of U.S. funded ‘cold fusion’ projects and patents, accompanied with a list of the individuals, companies, universities and agencies involved may be helpful in understanding the history of, and to determine the direction of, United States of America government funded LENR energy technologies entering the marketplace.

Boeing, General Electric and many others team up with NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration developing LENR aircraft. Both the SpaceWorks contract with NASA and the many Universities/NASA/Companies joint LENR aerospace presentations point towards NASA partnering with private industry on spaceplanes and Mars. Together they are preparing the way for low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) non-radioactive nuclear flight (NRNF).

The SPAWAR and JWK partnership developed a different form of LENR energy technology. This SPAWAR JWK LENR technology transmutes nuclear waste to benign elements while creating high process steam. The SPAWAR JWK LENR tech group is partnered with the Global Energy Corporation (GEC). Applied engineering has culminated in the GeNie reactor placed within an electrical generating unit called the Small Modular Generator (SMG). Recent commercialization claims are, “GEC is currently negotiating several new SMG construction contracts ranging from 250MWe to 5GWe around the world”. This LENR energy technology leads towards massive electrical power generation and the worldwide cleanup of nuclear waste.

2012 Global Energy Corporation news (SPAWAR JWK LENR tech)

“Virginia Firm Offers Nuclear Energy” Jun 2012 - Emmanuel T. Erediano http://www.mvariety.com/cnmi/c…offers-nuclear-energy.php

    Quote:

“Lawrence P.G. Forsley, vice president for science and technology of Global Energy Corp. (globalenergycorporation.com), said their “revolutionary technology” is based on the “new science of hybrid fusion fast fission” green nuclear energy, or “Genie.”

Forsley said he is among the GEC scientists who conducted 23 years of research and development with the U.S. Navy. He said they completed the design of a safe, clean, secure and affordable green hybrid fusion nuclear reactor for commercial uses.

Genie reactors, he said, don’t use a uranium-235 chain reaction. Without a chain reaction, there can’t be a runaway, core meltdown, no explosions initiated by the meltdowns and no radioactive fallout, he added. Genie reactors, Forsley said, don’t have nuclear waste problems.

It doesn’t need a spent fuel pool nor a spent fuel waste storage dump. It “burns” uranium-238 that comprises 95 percent of conventional nuclear waste. Therefore, Genie actually “cleans” nuclear waste, he added.

Dayberry said Genie will cut consumer power costs by 50 percent.” -end quotes

ALSO “Guam Eyes Clean Nuclear Power” http://www.mvariety.com/cnmi/c…-eyes-clean-nuclear-power

    Quote:

“We’re generation five,” Dr. Khim (President of Global Energy Corp) told the Variety during an exclusive interview, “and first of all this is a brand new concept.” He said safety is the first consideration, and that cannot be ensured by building higher walls around reactors, as Japan saw last year with Fukushima.

“You have to change the basic science of nuclear power,” Khim explained. “We’ve been working with the U.S. Navy for about 22 years and the basic science phase is now over. Now we’re going into commercial development, which the Navy is not going to do.” But Khim says the science has been repeatedly duplicated by the Navy, and has been proven, recognized and published.

Officials of the Navy on Guam, including Capt. John V. Heckmann Jr., CO of Naval Facilities and a professional engineer, attended the GEC briefing. The GEC board of directors, Khim says, includes some well-known Washington D.C. Players, including former Secretary of Defense Frank Carlucci, former Congressman and Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, and former U.S. Congressman Tom Davis, among others.” - end quotes

    Quote:

[0082] It should be understood that any material which may be hydrided may be used as the initial material, such as, for example, single-walled or double-walled carbon nanotubes. Double-walled carbon nanotubes in particular have an internal spacing consistent with the lattice spacing of palladium-silver lattices, the usage of which in experiment will be described in detail below.

Alternatively, materials such as silicon, graphene, boron nitride, silicene, molybdenum disulfide or ferritin may be used, although it should be understood that substantially two-dimensional structures, such as graphene, boron nitride, silicene and molybdenum disulfide are not hydrated similar to their three-dimensional counterparts and may be subjected to a separate process, specifically with the two-dimensional structure being positioned adjacent one of the above materials, as will be described in greater detail below.

Similarly, ferritin and other complex materials may be filled or loaded with hydrogen using methods specific to the particular material properties. In general, the initial material may be any suitable material which is able to readily absorb and or adsorb hydrogen isotopes, such as, for example, metal hydrides (e.g., titanium, scandium, vanadium, chromium, yttrium, niobium, zirconium, palladium, hafnium, tantalum, etc.), lanthanides (e.g., lanthanum, cesium, etc.), actinides (e.g., actinium, thallium, uranium, etc.), ionic hydrides (e.g., lithium, strontium, etc.), covalent hydrides (e.g., gallium, germanium, bismuth, etc.), intermediate hydrides (e.g., beryllium, magnesium, etc.), and select metals known to be active (e.g., nickel, tungsten, rhenium, molybdenum, ruthenium, rhodium, etc.), along with hydrides thereof, as well as alloys with non-hydriding materials (e.g., silver, copper, etc.), suspensions, and combinations thereof. - end quote https://patents.google.com/patent/US20170263337A1

    Quote:

Our team of scientists and consultants have solid backgrounds in both technology and business for the development of energy technology. With GEC you get the benefit of experience that’s been acquired year after year, job after job.

While development of NanoStar and Nanomite is ongoing, GEC initial focus is the product development and commercialization of Small Modular Generators (SMG’s) using Hybrid Fusion technology. GEC is currently negotiating several new SMG construction contracts ranging from 250MWe to 5GWe around the world.

After 20 years of R&D and product development, GEC has developed a truly safe, clean and secure atomic energy generator through hybrid fusion-fast-fission Technology. These SMG’s are safe (no chain reaction-no melt down), clean (uses nuclear waste/unenriched U as fuel), and secure (no enrichment and no reprocessing).

2006 - Global Energy Corporation founded

2011 - Subsidiary GEC Global LLC established for development of conventional power plants

  • My whole point in raising the issue is that hiding the rampant discussion of covid under “Playground” does not discourage the spread of this verbal virus on the website. All it does is make it easy to encounter it unintentionally. If you are going to allow it to continue, stick it in a thread labeled Covid discussion so that only people who want to read it will do so. It’s known as quarantining.

  • In parts per million, what's the percentage of words on LENR Forum dedicated to Covid?

In visits every day, how many more folks come here to visit the Playground and debate Covid instead of to discuss CMNS?

The same could be said for people that discuss the clown actions of a famous researcher. Or is it clowns discussing research? Or do we have to search first to find any research ?

  • The current findings open a new path for initiating fusion reactions for further study within the scientific community. Each target structure includes an integral body composed of an electrically conductive material that contains light element atoms (e.g., metal hydrides, metal deuterides or metal tritides). The integral body is also configured (i.e., shaped/sized) to undergo plasmon oscillations in response to the applied EM radiation such that the transient high density electron clouds are formed during each plasmon oscillation cycle, whereby brief but significantly elevated charge density variations are generated around light element (e.g., deuterium) atoms located in the localized regions,

I consider a prominent position of the LENR CANR library should include a sense of propriety.

Millions of words bashing and Covid rehashing. Few to make users proud and new folks to the library enlightened in any way.

Nothing to concern the Forum, no?

That's a discussion I will quicken elsewhere when I'm ready to.
