Some Points Regarding a Recent Presentation at ICCF20 on the ‘Lugano Report’ (Rainer Rander)

  • What is required to measure total emissivity is a total radiometer and a strong vacuum.

No my dear it can be much simpler if you have a reference material. The reference dot are a good reference material for T<350 °C approx. Beyond that the Kapton substrate is damaged.

Here are some textbook examples of spectral radiance calculations,

Nice to see that you are studying you want me to explain the formulas ?

What is needed is the total hemispherical emissivity.

  • rb0 ,

The Optris camera cannot see outside of its spectral sensitivity range, so total emissivity is useless for the camera setting, unless the object is a true grey body or black body, in which case spectral and total emissivity are the same.

The camera lenses and microbolometers are tuned only for the spectral sensitivity range of the camera. Wavelengths outside of the camera spectral sensitivity range are invisible to the camera optics. All IR wavelengths are not required for determining the surface temperature of an object.

The Optris camera is spectrally limited to one of three bands, which are related to IR transmissive windows in the atmospheric IR absorption spectra.

@PGM: Did you finally study the full Optris tech manual? MFP has found the same T3 dependency I taught you and THH since months...

Finally the Optris camera uses filters to block other wave-ranges, thats the correct explanation!

Further on we agree, that using Optical measurement is only adequate, if you have an identical dummy at the very same temperature, with at least two other measurements (T-coupler and input Wattage comparing) running in parallel.
