Trying to look on the bright side, maybe this fear of Trump's energy policy will spur on the interest in LENR it deserves? With only a few notable exceptions, the media has been derelict in their duties since shortly after the FPs announcement, in doing any real in-depth investigative journalism on the topic. You would have thought with what is at stake, they would have resurrected and followed the story after the first positive reports started leaking out...but did not.

Amazing the power of investigative journalism when they put their minds to it. Interviewing players, reporting and analyzing the latest research. It hastens the weeding out process so that there is minimal wasted time on dead ends. Biggest benefit would be more public interest, which brings it's own dividends.

Just think where LENR might be in the public eye had LENR been covered with only a fraction of the time, and with the same zealotry, they covered Trump, and covered-up for Hillary? Sorry, forgive me, just had to get that in there! :)

Seriously though, is LENR ready for the spotlight should it come? Does not seem to me anyone -with the exception of McKubre (retired), is willing to step in front of the camera and say "Hallelujah brothers and sisters, LENR is real and it will save us and the planet".

It seems to me more a reticent field. Not confident enough with it's own experimental observations to say in front of the public and their colleagues, that it is for real. That hesitancy might not play well when/if the spotlight shines on the field, and could send LENR back underground, where it might be more comfortable being in the first place.

  • Climate change is no where near the top of my list as to why we need a revolutionary compact, portable, and extremely power dense energy technology. The fact is that our entire civilization is stagnant because we're still hooked on fossil fuels. No other "renewable" technology can compete with the power density in the same form factor of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine. Not matter what anyone tries to claim, solar power is an exercise in futility: even with a 100% efficient conversion (which will not happen anytime soon) conversion of light into electricity you cannot attach enough panels onto a typical vehicle to provide all the power it needs. And, at the same time, it is pretty clear to me that we are pushing the limits of advanced battery design. All of these recent fires provide proof. These accidents don't mean advanced battery technologies should be prohibited in any manner, but they show we need an alternative.

The Cold Fusion E-Cat and all the devices that will follow provide such an alternative. They produce high power densities from portable devices that can be transported in relatively small volumes. Once these technologies proliferate, our entire economy and civilization will radically shift. Basically, a whole new slew of industries will open up designing products for all sorts of applications -- even those that might be considered borderline science fiction today. With thousands of new products utilizing long lasting LENR power sources, the economy of the world will begin to thrive again.

My hope is that once President Trump is informed that LENR exists and is an absolute reality, he'll push for the rapid implementation and commercialization of the technology. All at once, this technology needs to start being sold to the general public (devices and power packs sold at Walmart), businesses (every shopping mall should be independent from the grid), government agencies, and implementation by the military as a function of ensuring a technological lead. Most importantly, zero measures should be taken to provide for "life support" for the solar or wind power industries. They should be allowed to rapidly and immediately die off.

As a businessman seeking to MAGA (Make America Great Again) I think Donald Trump would push for a much more rapid implementation of LENR than any other candidate who could have been elected.

    I doubt it.

But to look at the really bright side, if Trump himself were to hear of cold fusion, he has a unique combination of boldness and technical ignorance which might -- just might -- prompt him to tell someone in the government, "I want you to look into this cold fusion thing." If he were to learn that Bill Gates is probably involved, he might do that.

When I say "technical ignorance" I mean, for example, that he did not know what "nuclear triad" means. Also, he seems to have odd notions about things, such as the idea that global warming is a hoax perpetrated by "the Chinese." I cannot judge whether he actually meant that, or whether he was just talking all out his head, but that is what he said.

    MrSS,

Just curious; do you tell your family, friends and colleagues what you say here about LENR? That with absolute certainty, it is real? The reason I ask, is because I consider doing so a good litmus test of ones level of belief.

Most, like myself, feel it is real, but only have the courage to express that belief on an this obscure website dedicated to LENR...among'st like minded. But taking it beyond here..well I would just won't do that. It still to me is a very good possibility that it is all artifact as TTH, and KS, argue. I think it was last year I read McKubre say something like he felt LENR was real...not that it *was* real, so that seems to be a normal mindset throughout LENR land.

So if you are spreading your message elsewhere, more power to you...that means you REALLY are sure. That is true believer status. If not, well, you are in the same boat as most here. I think someone popped on here and called this LENR stuff all a big circle jerk, and who knows, maybe he is right. :) Could be wrong too.

    Jed,

On the bright side, unlike Bush, Trump pronounces "nuclear" correctly...nuclear vs nuclar. :) Also, while GW may not be a hoax perpetrated by China as Trump said (what is it about those Chinese! ;) ), China appears to be making great strides in LENR research, as recounted by Nagel in his summation of the recent "secondary ICCF conference" there.

Think one of the teams got 600Ws continuous.

  • Just curious; do you tell your family, friends and colleagues what you say here about LENR? That with absolute certainty, it is real?

Anyone who tells family, friends or colleagues that Rossi's claims are real with absolute certainty is doing a huge disservice to cold fusion. And to the world at large. Even if you sincerely believe that, you should hedge your claims and acknowledge that competent scientists disagree.

I tell people that I am sure cold fusion is real, but when they ask for details, I wrap my assertions in so many layers of technical cotton wool they hardly know what I mean, or what is real about real. I talk about calorimetry, tritium, and correlation with helium until their eyes glaze over and they lose interest. I do that deliberately. I do not want people to think this is an easy subject with a clear cut set of answers. I want them to think it calls for careful study before you can draw a conclusion, or before you even understand what is being asserted. I tell people that if you cannot understand this paper by McKubre in some depth, you have no business holding any opinion about cold fusion, positive or negative:

    http://lenr-canr.org/acrobat/McKubreMCHcoldfusionb.pdf

This sounds like a snotty academic elitist -- because that's what I am. I want to keep the hoi polli from jumping to conclusions about a complex scientific question.

People such as MrSelfSustain who are ignorant about the technical issues yet who make bold assertions that cold fusion is real do more harm than good. The are as bad as the extreme skeptics. Anyone who says Rossi's claims must be real is ignorant, by definition. At best you can say there is a slight chance some of his claims may be real. If you are sure the 1-year test is real, you do not understand Exhibit 5. If you think it is a lie, you are gullible.

  • Shane,

I have little else to talk about except the E-Cat, the EM Drive, religion, political issues, anti-aging technologies, and the other topics I'm interested in. To be blunt, I'm a geek that shares my obscure interests with just about everyone I talk to: including family members, neighbors, friends, and women. It's probably one reason I'm single! For example, when I go out to get a burger or a cup of coffee and meet a stranger, the conversation inevitably moves toward these topics. When I was attending church frequently -- multiple issues such as transportation and my pastor having a lurid affair with another married individual -- I'd usually invite people to church in one breath and then bring up Andrea Rossi's name the next!

But I don't consider myself a "believer" in the E-Cat. That is a VERY loaded term and implies some type of "leap of faith" being taken beyond logic and reason. I'll fully admit I'm a "believer" when it comes to my religious leanings, because to accept what the Bible takes requires faith. But my "belief" or "opinion" or "conviction" (a slew of different terms could be used) on the E-Cat is based on years of detailed study, reading, research, conversations with replicators, comparison of patent applications of different LENR devices, conversations with witnesses of the E-Cat in operation (first and second hand), etc. From all of this I am willing to firmly conclude that in my opinion (which people can take with a grain of salt if they desire or take seriously if they so choose) the Rossi Effect is an absolute reality and produces very high levels of output.

However, when it comes to the test in Doral I'll admit I'm not God, not an omniscient deity, and evidence could plausibly come out revealing that the year old experiment was a big scam. So I refuse to come to state an absolute opinion on that issue. I think probably there was some excess heat and some quantity of "product" being manufactured. But I could be wrong.

    Jed Rothwell,

    You said...

Please, you are being too generous. For you to be true to your convictions, please refer to me on this forum as, "The Twisted Spawn of Satan, brother of Beelzebub, colleague of the Dark Lord Lucifer, Mr. Self Sustain." You have my full permission to do so at any time.

    Seriously, you do.

The evidence has come out in Exhibit 5. It is irrefutable. Perhaps you claim that Exhibit is fake data, but if you accept it is real, yet you do not see that it totally refutes the claim, then you are technically ignorant and you have no business expressing opinions about Rossi or calorimetry. No equipment could produce the numbers described in that document. That has to be fraud.

Trump claiming AGW is a Chinese conspiracy is a joke.
About Chinese, I remember some Chinese claims that AGW was a trick to block emerging countries development...
Now they sell billions of solar panel and wind turbine parts they seems to agree with consensus.

as the non hysterical , opposing but rational, commenter says, Trump is pragmatic and non ideology driven.
Good or bad he will try, in his mental framework of protectionism, to protect american industry.

if LENR is real, he will just push America to be a first player, and fight other countries with any tactic that works.
In a way it will not change much, maybe just the painting on the wall. US already works that way.

  • Also, he seems to have odd notions about things, such as the idea that global warming is a hoax perpetrated by "the Chinese." I cannot judge whether he actually meant that, or whether he was just talking all out his head, but that is what he said.

It's not clear what Trump's true positions are. He engages in a lot of locker room talk, which seems to go over well with a certain segment of the population. He also appears to be good at "dog whistle politics," saying shocking things without blushing that one would expect to hear on a reality television show, while simultaneously signaling his sympathies to people who are attuned to any coded language.

  • It's not clear what Trumps true positions are because he has no true positions. He is a narcissist and a fascist (look up any serious definition of those terms and you will find that Trump checks all the boxes) and everything else follows from that.

I have never been more glad not to live in the U.S. than right now. And at the same time I am affraid what his presidency means to the world. He has already appointed a notorious AGW denier as the head of the EPA...

  • FIFTH, I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars’ worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal. -- This is good for the rest of world, as it will keep the price of russian and islamist oil low, not so good for USA citizens and their children in particular. For any country it's good to serve as a raw sources mine and the shale gas mining is controversial from its very beginning. From this reason I'd also propose the research of alternative (not "renewable" indeed) energy sources.

SIXTH, lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward. -- see the above

SEVENTH, cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs and use the money to fix America’s water and environmental infrastructure. -- OK, but these money could be used better: for research of alternative energy sources (negentropic devices in particular).

@Jed Rothwell: Anyone who tells family, friends or colleagues that Rossi's claims are real with absolute certainty is doing a huge disservice to cold fusion. And to the world at large.

I think - that is to say, I believe in many indicia, that the technology A. Rossi works as announced. But I also believe in open research with fully accessible information and A. Rossi does present something like this not at least. After five years from his first public announcement the actual progress on the market is still essentially zero.

  • Let's make one thing crystal clear. Donald Trump's first priority is Donald Trump. There is no doubt about this fact.

When it comes to his secondary priorities, they will adjust and change according to a balance of what is best for Donald Trump and his personal desires and goals. Right now, I'm very certain Donald Trump recognizes what Hillary Clinton and the strongly liberal, progressive wing of the democratic party represents: an all out push for an amoral, socialist global world government -- without borders or individual nation states. This is flat out obvious. And so far, I get the impression that their goal is in conflict with Trump's goals and visions for the United States. As long as he does not have to risk his number one priority, his own well being, he'll push hard against the forces of George Soros, Hillary, and others.

To me, this is important. Because if high powered LENR technologies are about to emerge (like the E-Cat), a purely socialist world government would slow the proliferation of the technology. They would seek to control and regulate it to a far greater extent than a semi-capitalist society. Because the leaders of such a globalist organization would not want their slaves (the remaining 99.9% of the world population) to gain too much independents, wealth, or power from the technology. Their system only works if there is no viable middle class that has just enough money and resources to stand up for their best interests.

Donald Trump's victory was critical for the future of LENR. As a businessman who honestly wants everyone to have an opportunity to get ahead and be successful (even if it means being sly, sneaky, and sometimes dishonest in business as himself), he'll be much more likely to push for it's broad and fast proliferation than any democrat or sold out, corrupt Republican.

  • Trump and the people around him are gullible and easily fooled and/or have little regard for the facts. Just check out the so-called "birther" conspiracy theory which Trump promoted and which claimed that President Obama was born in Kenya (and as such was ineligible for the presidency). If Trump stays true to form, he will be flummoxed by proponents of goofy free energy concepts including high power LENR and he will waste a lot of resources there. I bet that five years ago, Trump or his "science" advisors would have loved Rossi and Defkalion.

It does not contain any formal recommendations or positions from the Government of Canada, DND, ADM(S&T) or DRDCIncludes Canadian Defence visions for #LENR Cold Fusion

This is relevant for several reasons. Paul Labbe, Canadian Defence Scientist from Ottawa, visited me in Oak Bay, BC, Canada to give me assurance that #LENR IS real and that it is time it be commercialized. I looked him in the eye and asked him should I continue to encourage its commercialization. He looked back at me, paused and said "that is why I wanted to meet you".
