Rossi-Blog Comment Discussion

  • To paraphrase Bushnell...

    It's all about energetics...

The energetics of LENR will enable all NASA planned missions yet unrealised.

To paraphrase the Rand Corporation 1958...

When an as yet unknown nuclear dense non radioactive energy source which provides electrical current without a Carnot Cycle becomes available, electric space drives will be utilized to expand human activities (habitation/commerce) to the far reaches of the solar system.

gbgoblenote- The GEC NASA Space Act Agreement and the LCF project are visible efforts to realize this imaginative dream.

Powerplants? Easy to re-engineer a better one into existing planned architecture and most existing space platforms, ie A new and better model.

    Far out!

I'm excited about a less problematic CRISPR.

    So is NASA I suppose.

  • Interesting Video.

Cold Fusion, LENR start 41:00 minute mark.

Sorry, you, and your quoted corporations and "visionaries", seem wrong again.

Without a reactionless drive like the EM-Drive, which does not seem to work, chances of any major colonization of anywhere seem slim to none.

It will never be possible to transport the materials necessary to build these colonies to these "far reaches of the solar system".

Also, this solar system, outside of earth, seems very inhospitable.

Please divert your enthusiasm for the scammer Rossi towards other researchers looking for novel space propulsion mechanisms.

  • PhysicsForDummies Wake up. Mars in 90 days on ten megawatts of power... Be easy now... Like a no brainer, huh. I am a bit exotic with never a hint of massless drive, hmmm. This is what I refer to so read and study up on this wonderful old tried and true tech. Throw away the solar array.

    Advanced Hall Thrusters

The highest power Hall-effect thruster in development is the University of Michigan's 100kW X3 Nested Channel Hall Thruster. The thruster is approximately 80 cm in diameter and weighs 230 kg, and has demonstrated a thrust of 5.4 N. [36]

Other high power thrusters include NASA's 40 kW Advanced Electric Propulsion System (AEPS), meant to propel large-scale science missions and cargo transportation in deep space.[37]

Also, go back in time to 1958 on the day NASA was born. Find the document/book that the Rand Corporation gifted to NASA to commemorate it's beginning.

    Tell me it's title.

Discuss what is written in the chapters about nuclear power and electric propulsion.

    Don't skip the summary.

    You are or you ain't....

    Physics for Dummies, are you?

  • PhysicsForDummies

The Space Handbook, first published in 1958, was designed to serve as a basic guide on the uses and characteristics of space systems, including astronautics and its applications, technology in the space environment, rocket vehicles, propulsion systems, propellants, internal power sources, structures and materials, flight path and orientation control, guidance, communication, observation and tracking, and atmospheric flight. Written at the request of the Hon. John W. McCormack, chairman of the House Select Committee on Astronautics and Space Exploration, it was produced in only three weeks using RAND’s own funds in the public interest. Now, fifty years after its initial publication, and to celebrate RAND’s 60th Anniversary, RAND is proud to bring this classic work back into print in paperback and digital formats. https://www.rand.org/pubs/commercial_books/CB136-1.html

  • While awaiting GEC and Leonardo Corp...

    Presently more concrete... Perhaps.

If 10MW powers one hundred of these thrusters providing 540N of continuous thrust till turn around point for continuous braking until orbit insertion...

How long would it take to move the ISS to Mars during the most favourable window of opportunity for such a maneuver?

When fully complete, the ISS will weigh about 420,000 kilograms (925,000 pounds).

  • While reviewing a granted and active US Navy LENR patent,

Excess enthalpy upon pressurization of dispersed palladium with hydrogen or deuterium

inventor David A. Kidwell, I came across a citing patent containing this...

    LENR

LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions) refers to the phenomenon where anomalous amounts of heat are produced when certain metals (e.g., nickel, palladium) absorb hydrogen or deuterium and an external stimulus such as heat or an electric current is applied. The reaction takes place at relatively low temperature and sometimes results in transmutation of elements as well as the production of heat. Either no strong radiation is produced or it is absorbed locally. The waste products are not radioactive. This phenomenon is also referred to as Cold Fusion, LANR (lattice assisted nuclear reaction), as well as other terms.
Modern interest in LENR began in 1989 when scientists Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons announced they had succeeded in generating nuclear reactions in laboratory experiments. This announcement sparked much interest in the media and in the scientific community, with many researchers attempting to replicate the effect in their own experiments—many without success. The effect is not always easy to replicate, particularly as the preparation of the metal was critical and it sometimes took weeks for anomalous heat to appear. When the effect has been obtained it also can be difficult to control and sustain.
There are many theories about what causes this heat effect, but none has been widely accepted or definitively proven.
There are many attempts going on at the moment by various parties to be able to replicate and control the LENR effect. Several companies are now working on commercial products with claims of producing kW of power as heat. Andrea Rossi's E-Cat invention has received a lot of attention because he was the first to publicly demonstrate his device and it has now been independently tested and validated by seven scientists, funded by the Swedish R&D organization Elforsk, demonstrating at least ten times the energy of any known chemical reaction and showing that the E-Cat is capable of producing useful heat.
Various claims are made that the E-Cat has a Coefficient of Performance (COP) from 6 to over 30 (meaning between 6 and 30 times more energy is produced than is input into a system). Even at the low end such a device would make obsolete virtually all other ways of producing power. More efficient designs would be suitable for powering transport, including aircraft, although this would probably take decades to develop. This promise of inexpensive, safe, clean power is why many are now following the subject.
However, all LENR focus has been aimed at producing energy in the form of useful amounts of heat. Moreover, all prior LENR developments have required an external energy source for initiation of, and/or to sustain a meaningful energy output.

The present disclosure produces energy in the form of electric power with minimal amounts of heat as a byproduct and without the need for any form of (artificial) initial energy input or continuing energy input whatsoever.

  • I think a good compomise is to design and build a space ship that requires a working SKL to power it once it reaches half way to Mars. Gather all the Rossi accolytes aboard the ship and aim it at Mars. If the ecat works as promised, the ship will arrive safetly, and return afterwards. If not, well that can't be considered because Rossi sez it does on his blog. By the way, is a rocket an inductive load?

Cruel and expensive. Perhaps it would be nicer to put Rossi (or any of our other commercially-inclined saviors) down a 1,000 foot deep mineshaft with an electric elevator to be powered by one of their proven devices? Retrieve them in 48 hours if they can't get the elevator working.

The elevator is an inductive load. SKL is out. They will just have to use the SKLed as a photon rocket to lift them out of the mine shaft. Goble plans to grab hold of one and fly to mars in 90 days.

  • There are two products.

SKLed is the lamp. Generates a few watts for an LED array.

As far as we know (aka RossiSez), each SKLed has its own eCat.

Pre-orders are open (subject to a million units). I ordered two.

SKL is the big one .. maybe a few kW each.

Early reports said it can generate heat and/or electricity (into a resistive load).

The latest version with "improved AI" can now generate electricity with inductive loads (eg motors). They can be combined to "MW" systems.

ONE SKL must be fed from the mains.
That SKL can drive other SKLs and SKLeds

Specifications will be released during the November event.

SKL's will be leased, not sold, with a 2-year payoff.

RossiSez industrial pre-orders will be taken after the event.

    Domestic pre-orders MAY be taken.

I still have a pre-order option from WAY back ...
