Rossi vs. Darden aftermath discussions

  • No. It looks like a fancy light bulb. The ecat Quark looks like Rossifiction. Another lame attempt at fraud by Andrea Rossi.

Mary you have never seen one. As almost anybody. So you don't know anything about the QuarkX.

You define fraud everything about LENR. But of course here you are just against Rossi.

  • He obtained $10.5M for it from IH and now through spending $2.5M he has no need to show it working, and can continue hawking non-working devices elsewhere.

Darden, being a VC, would say correctly that he lost a high stakes, high risk bet. Rossi has done well, though not got the $89M he desperately wanted.

Seem that you know a lot about the agreement. For sure you are from IH.

  • THHuxleynew,

I again do not agree with you. Probability is something i do understand and that is exactly where Darden failed.

If you talk about probability (and thus about calculating risk) you want to eliminate as much noise as possible. Define all parameters and only then one can calculate probability. The biggest mistake Darden made was that after he put a solid contract in place he lost focus. There was no plan. As soon as positive results came in it was no longer about the 1% chance of gaining a USD 100 billion.

He started to get overconfident and tried to attract as many investors as possible, "danced like a ballerina" and lost track if and where the goose was laying its golden eggs.

So, in every thinkable scenario Thomas Darden did a very poor job. The future will learn how expensive this lesson will be for him. It would not surprise me in the very least that he will turn-out to be the slimy, unsympathetic version of Steve Wozniak in the LENR industry.

    Cheers,

    JB

I don't actually understand how your comment here answers mine, or shows you understand probability, since VCs provide funding when there is high risk (and low probability of returns) however they do this at odds that make returns if they happen very lucrative. The whole point of VC investments is that they are high risk (high noise), and therefore not all parameters are defined.

Answering your separate point. Here you are presenting your speculation as fact. Remember, my comments here (somewhat speculative) were in response to you saying it was not possible. Well, my view above is highly possible.

But your view here is inconsistent with the released documentation from Cesarino meetings with IH which shows IH's plans. They planned, for the next phase, if Rossi's devices worked, to get $200M. Since they had Woodford on board at that point, if Rossi's stuff worked, it would be easy peasy.

Since Rossi's stuff did not work they did not get the $200M. It is pretty obvious that if you are Woodford (or anyone else) you give that much money only on commercialisable product clearly and replicably working in the hands of somone other than the inventor. Which IH thought they had, based in Rossi/Fulvio bad tests and Lugano (apparently very competent) bad tests, till they got in better in-house technical help.

As for whether Darden was competent, you keep on replacing judgement with feelings. He was clearly, in retrospect, wrong. Not necessarily in paying Rossi for access to the technology. Rossi's tests from the Swedes looked quite good and I'm sure that was all Rossi would have allowed without the contract they actually signed and the prospect of that $100M. Darden was incompetent technically in thinking he could reliably validate the technology without proper professional technical expertise. So, not being a technical guy, he made the mistake that many do, underestimating the technical expertise required to do a job, and he regretted it. I don't think, on basis of your posts here, that you would have done any better.

Ele, you are mistaken here, as on pretty well everything else you've said on this site. My comments come from the public record which if you had bothered to read and absorb might perhaps change your Rossi-friendly views.

  • SSC - the fabricating spin continues unabated - I realize that you cannot help yourself and that it is your mission so for the record, I have not spoken to anybody and nobody knows how I feel about the litigation outcome. The aforementioned fireworks were for Siffer and Kevmo getting banned on July 4th. Looks like you have nice weather this weekend so enjoy.

Maybe nobody knows how you feel (although it does not seem too hard to imagine it ...) but Abd nevertheless said that you were angry .... ask him why. And anyway if you know where I am now, come and find me: I will offer you a beer, maybe it can console yourself.

  • Most people I know who worked with Rossi in the lab hate his guts. One soft-spoken academic scientist said, "if I ever meet Rossi again I will punch him in the nose."

Rossi probably worked in several labs, I doubt you met all those who had dealt with him. And yet I don't think that the Swedes have such a violent wishes ... indeed, I'm certainly they are happy that a big company is funding them, and those funding would not have come if they did not cooperate with Rossi.

  • Another point is that most people interpret doubt not as a suspension of belief, but as confirmation of their points, not even considering they may be wrong.

This affair is tragic, both that Rossi still have followers and LENR still denialists.

I'm sorry, Alain, but it seems to me that your words apply even better to your case.

  • (1) The IH involvement in this lawsuit was a defense against an attack by Rossi. They did not think this could happen, because so strongly against his interests. And indeed, after wasting some $2.5M each side, and much entertainment for us, it has now not happened.

Do you really think it's so unexpected to get involved in a lawsuit when you do not pay the due?

Personally, I don't exactly feel closure. Two years after the Lugano experiment report was comprehensively demolished the likes of Ele, and other Rossi supporters, are conveniently forgetting the past holding up the now mute Swedes as evidence of how Rossi's stuff is known to be working.

The Swedes behave like any good scientist who is dealing with something serious: in silence they work on their replication and they will talk only when they will be certain that their results will be reproducible and irrefutable.

  • The biggest mistake Darden made was that after he put a solid contract in place he lost focus. There was no plan. As soon as positive results came in it was no longer about the 1% chance of gaining a USD 100 billion.

In my opinion, Darden's biggest mistake has been to underestimate Rossi. He probably thought he could handle this case as usual, hoping to pass unnoticed or declaring bankruptcy .... but he did not go this way this time.

  • Further shows lack of any technology or engineering, that is OLD technology used extensively in manufacturing (microwave bulbs). And that "publicity blurb" is nothing but pure BS fluff for the technically illiterate.

Makes sense in lots of ways from a business perspective, and a lot more sense than someone who views conmen as "noble".

  • The gloom and disappointment here is as palpable as the elation is on ECW. Cheer up 'ol LENR forum members, it is mere creative destruction rolling forth in all of its cultish glory. The cult of disruption threatens the status quo Murrays & Maryyugos. IH and Rossi were both looking for extrication from each other and they likely got it, with skeptopath casualties the result.

My quataloos are all on: all claims withdrawn with prejudice, with no more money changing hands (tip of the hat to our distinguished lawyers who joined us recently and opined this as well), and all parties returned to their respective positions prior to entering any agreements. In other words, my bet is that IH relinquishes any and all licenses to Leonardo's IP and the license agreement as well--gone. After all, IH has only bad-mouthed Rossi and his invention for well over a year now. So how is IH a winner? They get to move on.

  • If IH relinquished the license, I will conclude that they perceived themselves to be in a weak position indeed. For in that case the 10 million that they paid for the license will have turned into 10 million given to Rossi for nothing at all. Doesn't make sense to me, but perhaps they were that desperate. With the license, IH at least obtain a certain amount of protection from future harassment from Rossi.

  • He had just to to try. Rossi was a boxer when he was young.

Anyway I think that every single word you are writing is simply false.

As usual you don't give any reference.

What I'm missing is why you are writing all that.

Time for a new online journal . The Journal Of Surreal Physics.

    I can't resist it:

    Engelbrecht the Surrealist Boxer

A very weird book suitable for the very weird story of Rossi.

  • For me, the only real interest remaining in this saga is to see:

    a) on the one hand, the amount of crow eaten by one side if either or both of the ecat and the Quark X come on the market and actually work in accordance with claims made. (I shall be a big crow-consumer if this is the case!)

    b) on the other hand, the inventiveness of the excuses made by the other side as the years pile up and the above fails to happen.

That is not to say that LENR may not have some commercially viable instantiation in the future. But IMO it will be skilled scientists and engineers that will bring it off. Not Rossi, who is neither

  • With the license, IH at least obtain a certain amount of protection from future harassment from Rossi.

Rossi has not harassed anyone. He has been unfailingly polite. The harassment has come from the ad hominem comments about Rossi on this site, including those from members of IH.

Many years ago, someone gave me a one year subscription to the Journal of Irreproducible Results. This was prior to email, so you got a printed version in the mail every other month. (Now it's online and free).

It was usually good for a few laughs. Maybe Rossi can monetize his fantabulous results by publishing in JIR - he certainly meets the conditions of the Journal's title.
