Declassified dept of defense report 2010 Mills + Widom-Larsen

  • Although, I see the forces that be (CIA, DoD, etc.) as not really an acceleration in this case. Mostly just a bunch that are going to slow the release of the product as to not disrupt the current shale boom or fracking profits from being eaten up by novel LENR technology.

LENR is an area of research at the TRL-1 level but the community is
already jockeying for position to achieve a competitive TRL-8
position, which further impedes the normal scientific process

  • Perhaps petrodollars were more precious in 2010 than the potential limitless deuterium energy.

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/…petrodollar-deal-was-born

Japan has no petrodollars or oil but deuterium is like the fish in the sea.

This discussion has been had before, and the result of the status quo is introducing this tech to countries like China and India that need to meet huge energy demands for their populations. I also see this taking off in some European countries not in the pockets of most US multinational companies and institutions.

So, lessen to be learned, just go to China with a working product and see what they say.

  • " a working product"

The first basic deuterium reactors for heating probably will have simpler technology than the modern automobile engine.

    Three inputs

    1. Nanostructured nickel alloy

    2. Low pressure deuterium

    3. up to 150 V D.C electricity

No moving parts inside a metal cylinder.

    Two barriers

    1. Higher COP ... around 3- 4 at least.

    2. A control system that can assure neutronless emission and steady thermal output

If these are overcome the first reactors can be mass produced . A Briggs and Stratton engine factory of the 1970's era could do it.

  • Yeah, well, it's either a matter of time before someone decides to do that, so we can have a LENR race to the top, with a spiral of falling energy prices causing some massive unemployment to quite a few people who's livelihood depend on high energy prices. That seems to be the only reason in my mind as to why we don't have LENR devices with a COP<5 around even though it probably as simple as you say it is to make it work. Thus, the need for noble people who are going after LENR not out of financial gain; but, to get it through to the public so the masses can benefit the most. Sadly, there aren't many out there that would make that happen. *Looks keenly at MFMP*

  • "even though it probably as simple as you say it is to make it work"

    Its not quite that simple.

excluding the sociopolitical ware ( the most contentious) there are

three material components of the deuterium reactors:

1.Hardware - Briggs and Stratton simplicity

    2. Software - the control system - relatively simple

    3. Nanoware

Optimising the nanostructure including atomic composition- (Ni, Pd. Sc, Nb etc) for efficacy and cost

will take significant $ and time. But Tadahiko Mizuno has taken considerable groundbreaking steps forward.aking

  • Example of the " significant $ and time" needed for nanostructure research

Tunable Low Density Palladium Nanowire Foams : DA. Gilbert, EC. Burks, SV. Ushakov, PAbellan, IlArslan, T E. Felter, ANavrotsky, Kai Liu

Abstract: Nanostructured palladium foams offer exciting potential for applications in diverse fields such as catalyst, fuel cell, and particularly hydrogen storage technologies. We have fabricated palladium nanowire foams using a cross-linking and freeze-drying technique. These foams have a tunable density down to 0.1% of the bulk, and a surface area to volume ratio of up to 1,540,000:1. They exhibit highly attractive characteristics for hydrogen storage, in terms of loading capacity, rate of absorption and heat of absorption. The hydrogen absorption/desorption process is hysteretic in nature, accompanied by substantial lattice expansion/contraction as the foam converts between Pd and PdHx.

    So well said.

Great quote Mary. You caught the key!

    I like also:

Without a theory to guide the research, LENR will remain in a perpetual cook-and-look mode, which produces some tantalizing results to spur venture capital investments but does little to advance the science

  • I know MFMP is working hard on trying to reproduce various nanoware techniques. I hope their efforts are put into practice by making LENR devices no matter how small the COP. I really think some countries in Europe are the way forward given their expertise and such.

  • " I really think some countries in Europe are the way forward given their expertise"

there is plenty of expertise in any continent ... what is needed is institutional $ to use the nano research tools

Sandia did a good job here..but it was justified by healthcare application ... not energy

"culmination of a lot of research...a lot of ?power and a lot of physics" and plenty of $
