Surely BEC's electron capture model is appropriate enough to allow further engineering approaches? This is why I think we should support their endeavours even though their model is wrong since other groups, notably ECALOX, do detect very weak, soft gamma signals coming from their mixed powder experiments. Maybe they just need more time to perfect their q-pulse stimulation technique.

Ed Storms did the transmutation analysis of the LeClair cavitation experiments. That experiment showed aluminum and water transmuted to every element in the periodic table including transuranic elements.
Such transmutation cannot be actioned through nuclear fusion and/or fission.
Transmutation is by definition nuclear reaction. When fusion involves atoms of the metal lattice to other atoms of the lattice, then extremely high atomic weight atoms are formed which fission. The products from the fission range most of the periodic table.

In order to find new energy, we need to make the planet Earth. This is already a flying saucer with its own energies that have been moving for billions of years. To do this, I need a good laboratory and a team of good specialists in the energy of the planet Earth. We will be able to do gravity and fly safely in space without flying astronauts, we will live as on Earth. Everything else, Ches was engaged in LENR-it's all nonsense and does not make sense. That's silly. Governments do not even realize cold fusion exists. A handful of washed-up academics and some scientists in the plasma fusion fusion business opposed cold fusion, but most the damage to the field was done by the cold fusion scientists themselves. Mainly by keeping secrets for no good reason. Also by publishing lousy papers.
Permit me to rant about that --
As a copy editor and librarian, I know that many scientists published papers with spelling errors and poor grammar, so no one read them. Scientists who speak English as a second language often did that. I am sympathetic. I struggle to write fully grammatical sentences with proper idioms in Japanese. I have known many people who learned English as teenagers or adults, such as Martin Fleischmann. Fleischmann's English was superb, but even he made occasional errors in English idioms. (His wife or I would correct him, out of force of habit.) I am sympathetic to their difficulties, but the reading pubic is not. A poorly written paper will be ignored. No matter how good the content is, and no matter how important the scientific findings may be, a poorly written paper will attract only one or two readers at LENR-CANR.org, where a well written paper attracts hundreds of readers.
As for spelling, I have some original manuscripts with spelling errors written by Nobel laureates who shall remain nameless. My own spelling is wretched. But, in 1979, when I got full time access to a minicomputer, the first thing I did was to write a WYSIWYG word processing program with a spell check function. The people at Data General gave me a list of 110,000 correctly spelled English words. From that day on, I have never had to worry about spelling again. The point is, if you cannot do something, either get help from a person, or from a computer program. Don't do a half-assed job and expect your readers to accommodate you. They won't!
Some old-fashioned scientists in Japan such as Arata actually seemed to take pride in their inability to write English or pronounce it correctly. They had a kind of he-man audacity, as if to say: "I am an important scientist, so it is up my audience to figure out what I am saying. I will not stoop to practicing my English Ls and Rs." To me, with a background in linguistics, language and anthropology, that attitude is beyond the pale. It is disgraceful. As I said, it doesn't work! Herr Docktor Professor: Your audience can't make head or tail of what you say, and they ain't listening!

Jed, your lenr-canr library contains a DIA unclassified report declassified and published in 2009 mentioning among others, Mizuno's work on transmutations and excess heat.

I agree that much of the published science surrounding CF has been sloppy and low-grade but this is not the sole explanation for what happened. There were most definitely vested interests canceling CF scientists some of which I have witnessed personally.
Its quite naive to attribute "keeping secrets for no good reason" as a problem. It's quite normal, no, rather perhaps even critically necessary to keep secrets if you want to raise funds from investors.
Keeping secrets, otherwise known as protecting IP, is not a fair criticism for CF scientists.
Since the heavy weights, MIT, DOE, major journals, USPTO, etc. came down hard on CF researchers, I postulate you have the cause and effect flipped upside down. Mostly the crazy scientists were the ones who dared to venture into the mine field that CF research was.

I have seen declassified results about various subjects, especially relating to cold fusion and Japan, two subjects I know enough about to judge. I have seen secret reports from the U.S. and Japanese governments. They did not have any information that was not publicly available. The public results were better. The Barnhart report was based entirely on public sources. Of course I have not read every secret report on cold fusion from governments and corporations, so there may be some impressive ones, but the ones I did read were nothing to write home about. Mainly because they were not vetted by experts. They made the same mistakes other uninformed people make. I know more than the authors did.
My parents were in the intelligence business during WWII and the early cold war. They had a low opinion of intelligence agencies, which I share. My father once told me: "If you ever get access the most secret room in the government, and you open the most secret file cabinet, you will find an old newspaper and a dried-up apple."

Skimming the LENR forum summaries of yesterday's talks (thanks Ruby Carat and others), my total layman's view is that there is increasing evidence supporting the idea that pulses into a lattice somehow create "blurred" entities where the so-called Coulomb barrier is no longer a barrier. (Please feel free to correct this inadequate summary.)
I hope Brillouin's demonstration will eliminate deniability. Regardless, I hope Brillouin can announce that they've already provided, to external parties, the 2022 setup they will be demonstrating, and will present those external party results. And I hope they are prepared to provide HHT setups to universities for further validation.
Perhaps this is the year.

I doubt it will come anywhere close to eliminating deniability, but it is a nice apparatus that should help to build further confidence in BEC's credibility. Here's a couple of snapshots of their setup. The control panel software is full-custom and looks great.

The idea of some sort of screening in a lattice, enabling the otherwise "impossible," is something I can at least imagine wrapping my head around at a layperson's level, but the EVO stuff still sounds kind of hard to comprehend. Maybe a good rule of thumb is never use "exotic" in naming something?

BEC still going on, but quickly; the live demo is off. Said "out the wall" they had the HHT running continuous at 1.1-1.2 COP the past month or so. The best non-continuous was 1.4 I believe. Then he was a little fuzzy, but I understood what he said as it is no longer performing so well, so the demo is off. Anyone else have more details?
Disappointing to say the least.

Well, Godes and BEC could still allow one or more external university teams unrestricted access to inputs and outputs of their HHT tubes (keeping the devices themselves a black box if necessary). I guess that would have been easier if they'd had a successful demo. Shouldn't it still be possible?
Also, 1.1 to 1.4 sounds like a lot less than they'd said they had four or five years ago, isn't it?
