who won in this case ?
one or more of the other 36 proposers..
-
Sorry to see the proposal was not funded. I hope at least one of the (hopefully very well disguised) LENR projects gets funded. I know some teams purposefully chose not to (at least one of Italians that I asked directly if they had) and they said there were not interested due to the huge bureaucracy involved.
-
Looks like Deneum failed to get their EU funding. Sorry to hear that Dmitry.
Has somebody really understood the "explanations" given for this refusal?

Has somebody really understood the "explanations" given for this refusal?
The best explanation is that none of the results described were their own.

Maybe quantum heat c.i.c has some understanding?

Seems that nobody got funded...

Based on what I read, if I were the EU reviewer deciding on this application, I would have rejected it also. IMO, we as a community can do better than this.

So would I. Big shame they could not get better advice.

We recently informed the applicants about the evaluation result for their proposals.so there’s enough dough for all the above threshold proposals. Now, I wonder if any of the LENR proposals achieved above threshold score.

Usually such money is fellows money. If you are an outsider of the club, then your proposal serves only as a fig leaf to maintain the impression that a real selection did happen. Usually all money has been allocated a long time before in closed circle meetings.
This is how politics works and how the pig-farm is ruled.

I know of 4 applications plus Deneum, four have failed, the fifth may have succeeded.

Sad that so few success rate was achieved, but if only one got there, that would be very good. We will know sooner or later.

Would be a sense for transparancy, if the successful applications would be made public, since they will receive EU tax payers money.
-
The approvals must be made public- it's the rules, but I'm not sure when.

I am just wondering how more promising an experiment can be to at least get above "thresh hold". Compared to the funds available, the request of DENEUM is peanuts. The whole process seems like a farce to me.

I devoted a great part of my career to write research grant proposals for R&D+I (from 1999 to 2012) and I can tell you that, no matter how good an idea, no matter how cheap the proposal, if is not properly written and focused within the criteria of the proposal picking parties, there's no hope. I one wrote a proposal for a UK fund, and It got to the last stage, was very interesting for the selecting comitte, but it failed to have the proper partnership with an UK based company so it was not selected.

My wife's job (before she retired) was managing applications for European funding and funding reviews.
If you read the reasons given in the assessment and understand the way EU projects work the reasons given tell you what was missing from the application.
In general the EU likes collaborative projects - groups of companies in different countries all coming together to work on one project with a clear economic benefit. Sceptics say it's so reviewers get to travel to a wider range of exotic destinations Everyone wants to partner with companies in say Venice or Nice.
The art of creating such a project it to find companies whose pet interests can be convincingly portrayed as fitting into one seemingly cohesive project. This can be difficult.
Since i worked in the same industry as my wife our paths ocasionally crossed at review meetings. On one occasion my boss told his new secretary to book me a flight and a hotel room in Paris adding with a wink that "Colin will need a double room". She knew I was married but not what my a wife did for a living, we left her thinking I had a mistress in Paris for a few hours before telling her.
