Nasdaq First North-listed SaltX Technology AB wins the global competition - Helsinki Energy Challenge - with the best solution for a fossil-free city. The winners were announced at a digital awards ceremony and the prize of 1 million euros will be shared equally between the entries.

SaltX has previously announced that it has participated in the global innovation competition Helsinki Energy Challenge initiated by the City of Helsinki. The competition is now over and SaltX is together with Rebase Energy as one of four winners.

"This is an important milestone for SaltX. It confirms that our energy storage solution can play a central role in future fossil-free cities. In the work of finalizing the entry we have added even more competence to our team which we will use in our commercialization going forward, says Carl-Johan Linér, CEO of SaltX Technology and continues: "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the City of Helsinki for being bold and showing the way for other cities."

SaltX and Rebase Energy's solution "Smart Salt City" offers a functional and sustainable system that is well suited to cities that have set the ambitious goal of carbon neutrality but have high energy consumption and need a reliable energy supply for their residents and businesses. The solution melds the beauty of novel energy storage (EnerStore) and artificial intelligence with commercially available energy technologies. The solution provides an opportunity for cities to use renewable energy sources in a safe and economical way, without having to plan for new and expensive infrastructure for hydrogen and avoid potential investments in new nuclear power to secure energy capacity.

Together with the remaining winning entries, SaltX and Rebase Energy will share EUR 1 million. The money will go towards continued development and future investments of both companies' technologies.

In a next step, SaltX and Helsinki will begin to discuss the implementation phase(s) of the proposed solutions.

The jury consisted of Hans Jørgen Koch (CEO, Nordic Energy Research), Markku Ollikainen (Chair of the Finnish Climate Change Panel), Robert Stoner (Deputy Director, Science and Technology, MIT Energy Initiative), Sanna Syri (Professor, Energy Technology and Energy Economics, Aalto University), Brian Vad Mathiesen (Professor, University of Aalborg), Martin Young (Senior Director, Scenarios and Business Insights, World Energy Council).

  • Long-term perspective is beautiful.

A validation process is in progress. Timing is always important for big breakthroughs, the next few months will be important for this company.

Being able to store heat for several months with minimal losses is a big piece of the puzzle of solving the current energy crisis. We reduce the peaks and can reduce the transmission problem in the system. While we are waiting for a real breakthrough in LENR, this is worth keeping an eye on.

  • I have followed saltx for many years, now we are closer to the market.

Saltx shows potential linked to greener steel and Cement production. These two huge markets have major challenges in lowering their climate footprint. The EU puts a lot of pressure on these fields, which have the worst climate impact.

    See the latest press release.

If you are interested in large-scale energy storage, I recommend you read what Saltx is about to create. I think 2023 is the year when saltx gets the attention they deserve.

  • Saltx shows potential linked to greener steel and Cement production. These two huge markets have major challenges in lowering their climate footprint. The EU puts a lot of pressure on these fields, which have the worst climate impact.

It will be very simple..... since China and India are not part of the Paris climate treaty all of the cement and much of the steel production (except quality products) will come from these countries in the future. Positive effect on the climate = zero! Actually worse! It will only work, if we have an energy source on hand which is inexpensive AND safe AND environmental friendly.

But the real big deal is IMO.... the EU commission decided today, that in 2035, no new cars with a compustion engine are allowed to be produced.

That is in 13 years! That is a real big deal for all automotive companies and their suppliers. Worst case hundreds of thousands jobs lost!!!

    https://www.politico.eu/article/european-parliament-car-engine-ban/

  • We now have less than nine years until 2030, when the UK is set to ban the sale of new combustion engine vehicles. That’s roughly the time it takes to watch around 63,000 episodes of Great British Bake Off, host two football World Cups, vote in barely two General Elections and see at least one new US President take office. In other words, it really isn’t that far away.

  • That is a real big deal for all automotive companies and their suppliers. Worst case hundreds of thousands jobs lost!!!

E-cars will reduce the job numbers by a factor of 3 at least The maintenance is much simpler and does not need the manufacturer. No alternator, no oil/filter change, just for the breaks but at a much higher interval time because of E-break by the motor. No turbo, no exhaust, no gearbox, no coupling,....

So the car mafia will loose a large part of its evil influence like once tobacco had to go through.

  • Good innovation takes time.

If saltx succeeds in scaling up its large-scale energy storage, it will be magic for the climate.

I have followed this company for about 5 years. The coming weeks will be exciting! The validation from Bollmora is complete, results should come shortly.

Right. Both maintenance and manufacturing labor are reduced, as are the total number of parts. That is why electric cars will be cheaper than gasoline ones, once the technology matures.

Plus, manufacturing is becoming more robotic every month, so even if electric cars were as difficult to manufacture as gasoline cars, the number of workers would still decline.

So the car mafia will loose a large part of its evil influence like once tobacco had to go through.

(You mean "lose.") It does seem the manufacturers were opposed to electric cars for a long time. I do not know why. Perhaps they understood that electric cars will ultimately be cheaper? Some people say the Board of Directors and big stockholders at auto companies also held oil interests. That sounds plausible but I do not know if it is true. Anyway, all automobile company opposition to electric cars has now vanished.

  • The goal to replace gasoline cars by 2030 with electrical ones will not fail on the car side, but on the infrastructure. There is no way that we will have enough power plants to produce the necessary electrical energy by 2030 (even when LENR technology would be available today), and even less likely are we going to have transport capacity in the electrical grid to support the loading stations necessary by 2030.

Only hope would be everybody has an Rossi e-Cat to at home load his cars battery, but who wants to bet on this solution? :)
