Research summary
A previous study within our department has shown that patients with ME/CFS have reduced level of Vitamin D in their blood. Studies in patients with other diseases (e.g. diabetes) have shown that reduced level of Vitamin D are associated with increasec risk of cardiovascular disease e.g. heart attack or stroke.We know also that ME/CFS patients have evidence of inflammation and blood vessel damage which are thought to be predictors of future cardiovascular events. However there is no evidence to show whether increasing levels of vitamin D will improve cardiovascular function in ME/CFS patients.In this study we would like to examine whether we can improve the function of the blood vessels and markers of inflammation in patients with ME/CFS with high doses of Vitamin D given orally in liquid form every two months over a six month period (3 doses in total). XMRV virus - viral infection and development of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has been a matter of debate for sometime now. In a few study XMRV virus was detected in patients suffering from ME/CFS. We would like to test for this virus in this study to confirm presence or absence of XMRV in this group of patients and to see whether its presence relates to cardiovascular function.

Note how similar this woman’s post-COVID symptoms (severe fatigue, dizziness, brain fog, burning sensations, etc.) were to her post-Lyme symptoms. It appears that despite the difference in the pathogens, one a bacteria and the other a virus, both infections triggered a similar response. For arguments sake...if all those in the high risk groups take the recommended precautions, would we still be in this mess? Is it necessary for those with little, to no risk, to be forced to take the same precautions?
Everyone is at equal risk of contracting the virus. Some people are at much lower risk of severe illness or death. For example, my nephew is young, in his 20s. He contracted the virus, but the only symptom was swollen, red toes. He definitely had it. Here's the thing: He was as contagious as anyone. He could have infected me, or anyone else, almost as easily a person dying from the disease would have. (Except he was not coughing much.) To put it another way, low risk people can be more dangerous to others, because they are likely to be asymptomatic. They do not know they are sick, so they accidentally infect others.
So, everyone has to take the same precautions. Low risk people more than high risk people. Without that we will remain in this mess.

Obviously, I heard this. I am not pleased that suicides have increased, but the increase is mild compared to what it would be if the pandemic was as catastrophic as it is in the U.S.
Good news! Moderna's vaccine is reportedly 95% effective. Here are the raw numbers as reported by CNN:
15,000 vaccines administered. 5 people in that group got COVID-19. They had mild cases.
15,000 placebos administered. 90 people in that group got COVID-19. 11 had severe cases.
This is reported as 94.5% effective, which I think is too many digits of precision. I would say >90%. But I quibble. I think there is no question it is effective.
It seems the vaccine reduces the severity of the disease when it does not prevent it completely
There were no severe side effects. There were some side effects in some patients, such as headaches.
Fauci said this is good news. If the Pfizer and or the Moderna vaccines are approved, the first ones may be administered in December to risk groups such as doctors and nurses. Fauci predicted the general population may be vaccinated from May to July 2021.

Wild birds' high biodiversity, perching and migratory activity, ability to travel long distances and possession of a special adaptive immune system may make them alarming sources of zoonotic CoV‐spreading vectors. This review gathers the available evidence on the global spread of CoVs in wild birds to date. The major wild birds associated with different types of CoVs are Anseriformes, Charadriiformes, Columbiformes, Pelecaniformes, Galliformes, Passeriformes, Psittaciformes, Accipitriformes, Ciconiiformes, Gruiformes and so on. However, the main type of CoVs found in wild birds is gammacoronavirus, followed by deltacoronavirus. Consequently, it is imperative to enable thorough research and continuous monitoring to fill the study gap in terms of understanding their role as zoonotic vectors and the frequent appearance of novel CoVs.

Retroviruses like XMRV hide out. Evidence exists is that approximately 6% of the US population has these. ME/CFS patients have shown 67% to have retrovirus infection which is rather interesting.
