  • This theory might explain “Covid toes” and other mysteries of the disease

Bradykinin storms are the hottest new hypothesis for why Covid-19 can wreak havoc on the body.

Initially, it appeared that the virus might cause immune cells to overproduce molecules called cytokines, causing a severe inflammatory response known as a cytokine storm. But what Roche suspected as he sifted through early case studies was that it wasn’t the immune system’s cytokines causing so much of the damage but an entirely different pathway in the circulatory system knocked off balance by the virus: bradykinin signaling.

  • ivermectin favorable in the hamster model....

sorry for the male hamsters without ivermectin

Even though ivermectin had no effect on viral load, SARS-Cov-2-associated pathology was greatly attenuated. IVM had a sex-dependent and compartmentalized immunomodulatory effect, preventing clinical deterioration and reducing olfactory deficit in infected animals. Importantly, ivermectin dramatically reduced the Il-6/Il-10 ratio in lung tissue, which likely accounts for the more favorable clinical presentation in treated animals. Our data support IVM as a promising anti-COVID-19 drug candidate.

  • So - just for once lets discuss probabilities rather than possibilities. Say I have a one in two chance of being correct about Anti-Bat or CF then we would write E = mc power 2 for a 1/2 probability of being either correct or incorrect . Yes? With me so far? When the real equation with n restricted to positive was always E = mc power n! But in maths n could vary between -infinity to +infinity. Yes? Or restrict it to the more probable range 0 to +infinity. The beauty of maths its so simple! Apply the same thinking to all other known so-called constants pi, Planck's' Bohr's or Newton's or Maxwell or R Mills' or Holmlid's and then you reveal it!!! SO(4) multi-dimensional physics which is an ultra special theory of relativity!!! Discussion please, and is Rossi a silent partner in ECALOX, Alan?

  • Coronaviruses closely related to the pandemic virus discovered in Japan and Cambodia

Two lab freezers in Asia have yielded surprising discoveries. Researchers have told Nature they have found a coronavirus that is closely related to SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the pandemic, in horseshoe bats stored in a freezer in Cambodia. Meanwhile, a team in Japan has reported the discovery of another closely related coronavirus — also found in frozen bat droppings.

  • Pomegranate peel extract shows potential as inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 virus

Researchers led by first author Relja Suručić from the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka, Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, have studied the use of pomegranate peel extracts in preventing infections with SARS-CoV-2. Their study titled, “Computational study of pomegranate peel extract polyphenols as potential inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 virus internalization,” was published in the latest issue of the journal Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry.

  • Mayo launches therapy to prevent COVID-19 hospitalizations

In October, the federal government announced the purchase of 300,000 doses of bamlanivimab, a therapy meant for patients with mild COVID-19 who haven’t been hospitalized and don’t require oxygen therapy. It’s authorized for those 65 and older, or with certain health conditions, who are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or needing hospitalization.

  • CAN A CENTURY-OLD VACCINE FOR TUBERCULOSIS HELP DEFEAT COVID-19? NEW RESEARCH OFFERS SOME CLUES

It has the capacity to protect you not only against tuberculosis, but against many other viral and bacterial diseases," said Dr. Moshe Arditi, director of Infectious and Immunologic Disorders at Cedars-Sinai.

Scientists observed that the BCG vaccine somehow trains your immune system to, not only to fight the bacteria that causes tuberculosis, but also attack other foreign invaders.

"They get rid of the attacking virus or bacteria, thus giving you a non-specific broad protection against many diseases," he said.

  • Fearing staffing shortages as COVID-19 hospitalizations soar toward new records, several major Michigan health systems are telling employees to report to work, even if they’ve recently had a close or household contact with someone who has COVID-19.

Should I embrace modern medicine or run as far away as possible???

This is not "modern medicine." It is pre-modern voodoo. For a modern person to do this is insanity.

    • Official Post

I don't drink a lot of sewage. But it suggest no swimming in the sea for a while yet. As for containment, the least damaged countries are the ones that imposed lock-downs and entry restrictions early on -Like New Zealand. They have done very well. But without a vaccination program they will get a flood of cases when their population is once again exposed to tourism.

  • I cannot make sense of the stats. How does China have such a small number of deaths/million compared to most other countries? Are the numbers real? Perhaps there is a less virulent strain that was produced there and is give immunity? what is going on?

Anyone can see what is going on. It is abundantly clear. It has been widely reported, in enormous detail, in the mass media and in technical journals.

Read the reports by the WHO and other expert agencies, and read the reports of what happened in S. Korea, Taiwan, Greece, New Zealand, Japan (so far) and other countries that kept the number of per capita deaths as low as China. They are 100 to 1000 times lower than the U.S. and others. They took conventional public health measures such as contract tracing and quarantine. They upgraded these methods using 21st century internet and data processing technology, and they kept the pandemic at bay. They kept economic damage to a minimum. They were able to keep their schools open. In some cases they had temporary, limited lockdowns, but in most cases they did not. There were some mild, short-term lockdowns in Japan but they were mostly ignored. A lockdown is a last-ditch response when all else has failed. In the US all else failed because nothing else was done.

In February, the WHO recommended that all countries follow these steps. They described them in great detail. The Koreans and others listened to them and followed their advice, while the US ignored them. In March, Kushner recommended these steps be implemented, but someone in the White House decided not to take any of the recommended steps. This caused the deaths of 250,000 people. Nearly all of them could have been saved if the US had followed this advice. It was an avoidable, unnecessary tragedy.

  • But without a vaccination program they will get a flood of cases when their population is once again exposed to tourism.

What makes you think they will allow tourism? That would be crazy. Japan is closed down for the duration of the pandemic. Anyone entering the country is tested, and cannot leave the airport until the test is clear. Only Japanese citizens are allowed in. (I think this is too restrictive.)

If there was no prospect of a vaccination, perhaps it would make sense to open these countries again. But vaccinations will begin in December. So why would anyone risk opening the country? Or slacking off in the use of masks and case tracing? When the cure is a few months away, why on earth would anyone risk illness and death? Who would want to be the last person to die for no reason?

  • It looks to me like they have pulled back from the precipice in France and the UK. Things are looking better in Japan, but that might be because there is a national holiday and reporting might be delayed. The numbers in France are encouraging. I believe they have reimposed a lockdown. It is a darn shame they had to go that far but when you ignore medical science that is what you end up doing.

Meanwhile, in Sweden the disaster continues. This is what happens when you ignore science and the advice of doctors. Some people are calling this the "Swedish experiment." That is like calling the "Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male" (https://www.cdc.gov/tuskegee/timeline.htm) an "experiment," or saying the Nazi concentration camp medical tests were "medical research." Both were deliberate, premeditated homicide. The results of the "Swedish experiment" were a foregone conclusion. The Swedish government ignored medical advice and refused to use techniques that have been used to control epidemics since the medieval era. Quoting Ishaan Tharoor in the Washington post:

. . . the total number of infections is nearing 200,000 in a country of 10 million people.

In Stockholm, the capital, 1 in 5 people getting tested is testing positive, and the official number of positive cases could be much higher with more widespread testing.

Hospitalizations are rising faster in Sweden than any other European country, and Sweden’s per capita death rate is several times higher than those of its Nordic neighbors Finland, Denmark and Norway.

“So far Sweden’s strategy has proven to be a dramatic failure,” Lena Einhorn, a Swedish virologist and vocal opponent of its strategy, told the Financial Times. "Four days ago we had eight times higher cases per capita than Finland and 3½ times more than Norway. They were supposed to have it worse off than us in the autumn because we were going to have immunity."

With the toll of the virus growing, some experts believe that the Swedish experiment is nearing its end and that it may be time for more systematic measures, including a broader lockdown. "With such a rise in infections as is now happening, it is as if we in Sweden are in free fall."

  • the problem is that when cases in icu are low people feel safe and do not follow the recommendations. I have seen this personally where some who i know wasnt cautious and got corona. Those who follow the advice all are spared among my group. atm the numbrrs are high again and again the streets and malls are empty. R is close to 1 and the increase will brake. The top will reach 40 deaths a day i project. We will probably not reach the limits of icu beds. These statistics is worse then our nordic neighbours but better then the rest of eorope. And do note that masks are not used in norway and finland so obviously they are not the solution.
