India reports 16,738 new Covid cases, highest since January 29

New Delhi, February 25

The daily rise in coronavirus infections in India was recorded above 15,000 after nearly a month taking the country's total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,10,46,914, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

total of 16,738 infections were reported in a day, while the death toll increased to 1,56,705 with 138 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

On January 29, 18,855 new infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours after which the daily rise of cases stayed below 15,000.

The daily deaths were registered above 130 after a gap of 26 days.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,07,38,501 which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.21 per cent and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42 per cent.

One year ago today india had 13,000 case of covid and a week later over 100,000. Follow the seasonal path of influenza, far east into eastern europe. Look at finland, case rising, ukraine cases rising. This will continue might east just as it did one year ago. By Tuesday you'll see central europe rising and by the end of the week it will be in uk and us.

And as for china, they are hiding something, just haven't figured out what just yet. Maybe rising cases unreported?

I know several people with direct ties to China. My wive just took second highest language test. So CoV-19 is everywhere in China. Then people face a lock down (jailed at home) for 6 weeks and the almighty says its gone...

"Following extensive discussions with and presentation from Chinese counterparts, it appears that little had been done in terms of epidemiological investigations around Wuhan since January 2020," the report said, according to The Guardian.

PARIS — The virus picked up speed again over the past week in every part of the world except Africa, after a month in which new COVID-19 cases fell by half, according to AFP data.

New cases are now at a level last seen in mid-October.

As more people in the United States learn of someone close to them who has received a Covid-19 vaccine, they are becoming more open to getting the vaccine themselves, according to the latest survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation, which has been monitoring attitudes since December.

Across most demographic groups, vaccine hesitancy, though still substantial, continues to abate. Fifty-five percent of adults now say they have either received one dose or will get it as soon as they can, up from 34 percent in December.

The so-called “wait and see” group is inching down, too, to 22 percent in February from 31 percent in January.

[The issue is still highly politicized, with a huge difference between Democrats and Republicans. This difference is also seen in how willing and how often they wear masks.]

From December to February, the proportion of Democrats who had either gotten the shot or wanted to soared to 75 percent from 47 percent. Republicans remained more hesitant, but there was a notable increase in the amount who were vaccinated or hoped to be, to 41 percent from 28 percent.
