Only idiots die of CoV-19 or of COV-19 vaccine.

  • Of the 3,444 individual reports, 2,980 were considered non-serious (0.039% of all doses administered) and 464 were considered serious (0.006% of all doses administered).
Most adverse events are mild and include soreness at the site of injection or a slight fever.
Serious adverse events are rare, but do occur. They include anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction), which has been reported 60 times for all COVID-19 vaccines across Canada. That’s why you need to wait for a period of time after you receive a vaccination so that you can receive treatment in case of an allergic reaction.

Apart from anaphylaxis, these reactions are nothing to worry about. On the contrary, they are good news, indicating the vaccine is working. I get that people who suffer from fevers probably don't feel lucky. Of course all reactions should be recorded in the database as adverse effects even when they are actually a good sign.

Soreness and fever are good signs, but experts say even if you do not experience them, the vaccine probably worked and you have nothing to worry about.

COVID-19 vaccines; Nature looks at the questions that scientists want answered.

It has been a difficult week for two COVID-19 vaccines. On 13 April, US regulators urged health-care providers to temporarily stop using a vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson (J&J) of New Brunswick, New Jersey, because of 6 suspected cases of unusual blood clotting among nearly 7 million vaccine recipients.

The move came after European regulators expressed concerns about a possible link between rare blood clots and the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine, developed in the United Kingdom by AstraZeneca in Cambridge and the University of Oxford.

Both decisions are having a global impact. Although researchers and regulators stress that the benefits of the vaccines outweigh the risks, several countries are restricting the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine to certain age groups, and Denmark has opted out of using it altogether. J&J, meanwhile, has paused distribution of its vaccine to some countries.

  • Young, healthy adults will be deliberately reinfected with COVID-19 to boost vaccine development

    https://www.marketwatch.com/am…e-development-11618839051

Healthy, young volunteers who have previously had COVID-19 will be deliberately exposed to coronavirus for a second time to see how the immune system responds, as part of a new U.K. study.

Researchers at the University of Oxford on Monday launched the “human challenge” trial to investigate what happens when volunteers who have recovered from the coronavirus disease are then reinfected with the virus a second time.

The study, which is funded by the Wellcome Trust, is expected to start in the next few weeks after receiving ethics approval, and could help accelerate the development of new treatments and vaccines against the disease.

Otters test positive for COVID-19, Georgia Aquarium says

    https://www.foxnews.com/health…d-19-georgia-aquarium.amp

The Georgia Aquarium announced on Sunday that its Asian small-clawed otters tested positive for COVID-19.

While it was unclear how many of the animals had tested positive, officials said in a news release that the otters are already showing signs of improvement and are expected to make "a full recovery."

"Our Asian small-clawed otters are under very close monitoring by veterinarians and animal care team members," Dr. Tonya Clauss, vice president of animal and environmental health at Georgia Aquarium, said in a news release. "They have displayed only mild symptoms and we expect them all to make a full recovery. We are providing supportive care as needed so they can eat, rest and recover."

  • No, vaccine side effects don't tell you how well your immune system will protect you from COVID-19

    https://theconversation.com/am…-you-from-covid-19-158728

If someone gets a headache or feels a bit under the weather after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, it’s become common to hear them say something like “Oh, it just means my immune system is really working hard.” On the flip side, when people don’t notice any side effects, they sometimes worry the shot isn’t doing its job or their immune system isn’t reacting at all.

Is there any link between what you can notice after a vaccine and what’s happening on the cellular level inside your body? Robert Finberg is a physician who specializes in infectious diseases and immunology at the Medical School at the University of Massachusetts. He explains how this perception doesn’t match the reality of how vaccines work

  • No, vaccine side effects don't tell you how well your immune system will protect you from COVID-19

That's what I read too. As I said: "experts say even if you do not experience them, the vaccine probably worked and you have nothing to worry about." On the other hand, the side effects do tell you the vaccine is working. That can be reassuring.

During the blind tests, people who got fevers knew they were given active doses and not placebos. I read an article by a young women who took part in the blind tests last fall. She felt no side effects, and worried she was not protected. She worried a lot. Like she has a mild case of hypochondria. Early this year they revealed the results and she was right: it was a placebo. They invited her in for an active dose in January. That was good of them.

Mapping a Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2 Seropositivity in the United States

    https://www.medrxiv.org/conten…1.27.21250570v1.full-text

    ABSTRACT

Asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection and delayed implementation of diagnostics have led to poorly defined viral prevalence rates. To address this, we analyzed seropositivity in US adults who have not previously been diagnosed with COVID-19. Individuals with characteristics that reflect the US population (n = 11,382) and who had not previously been diagnosed with COVID-19 were selected by quota sampling from 241,424 volunteers (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04334954). Enrolled participants provided medical, geographic, demographic, and socioeconomic information and 9,028 blood samples. The majority (88.7%) of samples were collected between May 10th and July 31st, 2020. Samples were analyzed via ELISA for anti-Spike and anti-RBD antibodies. Estimation of seroprevalence was performed by using a weighted analysis to reflect the US population. We detected an undiagnosed seropositivity rate of 4.6% (95% CI: 2.6 – 6.5%). There was distinct regional variability, with heightened seropositivity in locations of early outbreaks. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that the highest estimated undiagnosed seropositivity within groups was detected in younger participants (ages 18-45, 5.9%), females (5.5%), Black/African American (14.2%), Hispanic (6.1%), and Urban residents (5.3%), and lower undiagnosed seropositivity in those with chronic diseases. During the first wave of infection over the spring/summer of 2020 an estimate of 4.6% of adults had a prior undiagnosed SARS-CoV-2 infection. These data indicate that there were 4.8 (95% CI: 2.8-6.8) undiagnosed cases for every diagnosed case of COVID-19 during this same time period in the United States, and an estimated 16.8 million undiagnosed cases by mid-July 2020.

  • Fauci spreading more bullshit, says republicans are not taking vaccine overlooking only 20% of blacks and 35% hispanic have taken a jab. They vote democrat!!!

    https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/…-because-of-politics.html

White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Monday it is "disturbing" that some Americans won't take a Covid-19 vaccine due to political reasons.

Fauci said those refusing to get vaccinated against the virus are the same ones who say the U.S. government is "encroaching on our liberties" by asking Americans to wear masks and implement other pandemic safety measures. He said the "easiest" way to get out of the pandemic is to get a vaccine.

  • Unless my math is wrong the United States should have reached herd immunity

All is wrong: There is and never will be herd immunity against corona as no antibodies live on the outer skin (mucosa). But there will be herd protection! No more people will be seriously ill, but as usual a few can't escape as the vaccine only work 89%...and Pfizer/Moderna do not cover the Brazil mutation...

    To many dreams.

Fauci spreading more bullshit, says republicans are not taking vaccine overlooking only 20% of blacks and 35% hispanic have taken a jab. They vote democrat!!!

Nobody younger than 45 needs a vaccine! Why?? Flu is much deadlier for them.

Only 15% (at most) of all people in Europe die from CoV-19, 85% die with CoV-19. So medicine has to find the vulnerable. Take a vaccine for obesity this will, helps much more...

  • Fauci spreading more bullshit, says republicans are not taking vaccine overlooking only 20% of blacks and 35% hispanic have taken a jab. They vote democrat!!!

That's not bullshit. Both statements are true. Republicans are taking the vaccine at much lower rates than Democrats, and blacks and hispanics are also taking it at lower rates even though they tend to be Democrats. The set of "Democrats" does not includes every member of the party. Some groups within the Democratic party are less inclined to get the vaccine than others. Some groups in the Republican party are more inclined. Elderly Republicans are much more likely to want the vaccine then middle-aged and young Republicans.

  • SAGE prognostication

SPI-M-O, Sage’s Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (Operational) subgroup,

    https://www.bmj.com/content/373/bmj.n923

"The later stages of the UK government’s roadmap out of lockdown are “highly likely” to cause a surge of covid-19 infections, hospital admissions, and deaths this summer, suggests modelling from three groups of scientists considered by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage).

. It concluded that any resurgence in hospital admissions and deaths after reopening non-essential retail, hairdressers, gyms, and outdoor hospitality from 12 April was “highly unlikely to put unsustainable pressure on the NHS.”1234

But the return of indoor socialising, the reopening of indoor hospitality including cinemas, theatres, and concert halls (stage 3) from 17 May, and the removal of remaining social distancing rules with full unlocking (stage 4) from 21 June “is highly likely” to lead to a further resurgence in admissions and deaths, says the SPI-M-O paper. The scale, shape, and timing of that potential third wave is “highly uncertain,” it adds."

  • Doctors are testing a prescription video game for COVID-19 ‘brain fog’

The game is cleared for use in ADHD

    https://www.theverge.com/platf…reatment-video-game-akili

A research team is testing a prescription video game to see if it can help people who have lingering memory and attention problems after recovering from COVID-19. Many people who survived the disease say that they’re often confused and have difficulty focusing, and research studies show that the symptoms can stick around for months after they recover.

Faith Gunning, a neuropsychologist at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, thinks the EndeavorRX video game might be able to treat some of those symptoms. The game, made by Akili Interactive, made history last summer when it became the first video game to get the Food and Drug Administration’s sign-off to be prescribed as a medical treatment. It’s cleared as a treatment for kids between the ages of eight and 12 with ADHD.

But Gunning thinks it could help other groups of people. “I was already interested in the game,” she says. Then, she started to see the signs that people who had COVID-19 might be struggling with some of the same symptoms the game can target. She’s launching a study to test if it can help those patients. One group of people who had COVID-19 and have cognitive problems will play the game, and the study will check if their symptoms improve more than a group of COVID-19 survivors with similar symptoms who don’t play the game.

“We need more interventions in general, in cognitive and mental health, that we can get out into the community,” Gunning says.

  • NEW COVID VARIANT IDENTIFIED AT TEXAS A&M LAB SUGGESTS POTENTIAL RESISTANCE TO ANTIBODIES

    https://abc13.com/amp/covid19-…avirus-variants/10528515/

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KTRK) -- Scientists at the Texas A&M University Global Health Complex identified a new variant of the COVID-19 virus that could present a new challenge to public health, according to a statement.

So far, the new variant, "BV-1," was found in just one case: an individual who had mild symptoms, according to the Texas A&M scientists.

We do not at present know the full significance of this variant, but it has a combination of mutations similar to other internationally notifiable variants of concern," said GHRC chief virologist Ben Neuman. "This variant combines genetic markers separately associated with rapid spread, severe disease and high resistance to neutralizing antibodies."

The scientists said they felt the need to share with the public because other labs have shown neutralizing antibodies are ineffective in controlling other variants with the same genetic markers as BV-1.

"We have not detected any more instances of this variant," Neuman said. "We have not grown or tested this virus in any way. This announcement is based purely on the genetic sequence analysis done in the lab."

BV-1 is related to the United Kingdom variant of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

  • Dramatic deterioration’ in information access due to pandemic, press freedom watchdog says

    https://www.washingtonpost.com…pdates-us/?outputType=amp

The coronavirus pandemic has contributed to a “dramatic deterioration” in people’s access to information around the globe, helping governments block news coverage and criminalizing reports critical of authorities’ response to the crisis, Reporters Without Borders said Tuesday.

The Paris-based group released its annual World Press Freedom Index ranking 180 nations on media freedom and independence. It tracked moves by countries to clamp down on pandemic-related reporting, including the passage of draconian media laws and the arrest and intimidation of journalists investigating issues such as medical supply shortages and growing virus death tolls.

Some of the most egregious moves to silence journalists reporting on the pandemic took place in Brazil, Egypt, Iran, Venezuela and Zimbabwe, the group said.
