    I don't know much about Switzerland. You seem from what you say here to view people over 65 as of no significance? And of course by lumping together everyone below age 65 you do not get the IFR for 55-65. Finally your estimate of 4m infections gives and infection/case ratio of 6:1. For a country with good testing that seems high.

    It seems that delta took over from alpha in Switzerland around 10th July? So you are just starting your delta-fired third wave. I have no idea how it will go, but with zero restrictions most people find quite a definite exponential delta growth unless vaccine rates are much higher than they currently are in Switzerland (47% double-vaccinated). We will see over the next month what happens to your case rate?


    In terms of "the pandemic is over" I feel your judgment is perhaps informed by a political view that anyone over 65 should be left to die regardless, because they don't matter?

    Every media outlet has to make editorial decisions about balance and may be accused of bias - the BBC is generally accused about equally by right and left of bias - which is as good as it gets. But money doe snot enter into news editorial decisions.

    Swiss news: We officially had about 400 vaccine break trough cases with a CFR of 4.5% and a hospitalization rate of about 23%...We mostly did use Moderna the last 4 months. So the case number still is low.


    But as we know vaccinated people certainly will not go to a test for obvious reasons - I'm protected it cant be...So this figure is 10-100x to low and the real death/hospital rates thus is far to high.

    That's what I recommend. Of course it often fails, as history shows. But it works more often than it fails. As Winston Churchill said of democracy, it is the worst system except for all the others.

    Many conspiracy theorists think that mainstream fuddy-duddy government experts are corrupt, or members of a secret mafia, as one person here puts it. That's unlikely, because the thing is, those experts don't get paid much. They do not live the high life. They get no respect outside of a small circle of colleagues. They could get much more money in private industry, but they work in the government instead. Most of them do it because they like the technical challenges and they are not that interested in money. That is what my late mother said, and she worked for Uncle Sam for decades as a technical expert. It is a solid, middle-class salary, but there is zero chance of making millions because everything you do, and discover, and make, belongs to Uncle Sam. The government is one of those places where you can be an antisocial jerk as long as you present good arguments are you are technically right. You don't have to go along to get along. It is no place to be if you want money and status. The people who invented the internet all worked for Uncle Sam, and they did not make one extra dime for doing it. Nor did they expect to. In short, the government, and places like the CDC, are very unlikely to hatch money-making conspiracies. If you accept a kickback from a drug company, the government will find out about it, and you will be in serious trouble. You do not have to trust in the integrity of those people; the mechanisms of the institution itself ensure integrity. It also keeps many of them from making important contributions; it makes them follow orders; and it ties up the whole effort in red tape. That is why, for example, the FDA has been so slow to give final approval to the COVID vaccines. It is why an admiral single-handedly stopped all cold fusion research in the navy. This is not the best way to promote innovation. On the other hand, nearly every important cold fusion project except SRI was done by government researchers at government labs.


    My mother said the only other place she worked at where the management was totally honest and mission oriented, with no ego, was the U.S. Army in the late 1940s. They were just coming off of WWII in which egomania often got you killed. Mission failure meant death.


    It is the height of folly to assume that experts are usually wrong, and the system usually does not work. Or that things are never what they appear to be, and the goal of CDC is not really to control diseases. That's conspiracy theory delusion. Here is why we can certain that institutions usually work, and you can usually trust the government, or the airlines, the grocery store, and a licensed electrician. Because airplanes seldom fall from the sky. Because grocery stores seldom sell you food contaminated with salmonella. Because after the electrician installs ungraded power lines and circuit breakers, houses seldom burn down. In short because things work. Not always, of course. Airplanes do fall out of the sky. But it happens so rarely it is first page news. Before 1880 and the founding of the ASME, mechanical failures such as boilers exploding and railroad accidents were far more common. The world had changed. Technology was much more difficult to understand, control and regulate than it had been in previous centuries. New institutions were needed to deal with the new world of high technology. Long, detailed books of standards and rules had to be developed. Electricians had to be tested and licensed, to ensure they would not burn down houses. The government had to pass thousands of laws and regulations, in cooperation with industry. They did all of this. It worked, and it still works. That is why things like public health are so much better than they used to be, and automobile accidents and fatalities have declined so much. Naturally, the regulators go overboard at times, with unnecessary or absurd regulations. No institution is perfect.

    This is thanks the Delta boost. 2 months ago we were at about 30%. Now its at 70% but we also have 40% vaccinated. Irony:: 70% also holds for un-vaccinated...what a surprise!

    This data is wrong as said above also in UK > 70% have antibodies - not from vaccines...And I wrote Switzerland not UK/USA where the figures are dramatically higher due to fat/alcohol/junk food in the cattle population.


    USA is by far the worst performing country thanks to killing hospitals/doctors & fat/alcohol/junk food. The average USA live expectation did fall by 2 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Do you want a list of names and the name of the mafia= Rotary / Free masons ?? These people are no longer secrete! Thanks to CoV-19 we exactly know where they sit in CDC,NHS,NIS,FDA, BBC, ... most hospital managements, Big pharma, Government, Senate.     So, you are wrong. BBC management do not get favours based on news content, and editorial judgment is very carefully scrutinised - it must be independent. Furtehrmore BBC news content comes from independent journalists, not management.


    BTW the BBC is now mostly delivered via digital platforms, not AM or FM :)

    Since 70% of people have at least one vaccine dose (enough for antibodies) what you say is untrue.

    I posted a while ago the antibody status. It is of course higher than the vaccine status in each age group, but overall > 80% of seropositivity comes from vaccination.
