Covid-19 News

  • This one is perhaps more boring than porn, but equally void of science.

It's all crashing down on you Thomas, your whole scaremongering narrative is falling on deaf ears. The virus remains but the pandemic is over. Covid is endemic, and it is seasonal. Early treatment is the key to making Covid manageable just as early treatment does for flu. It's about time you get a grip on reality. It's over and so is your Fearmongering tactics. The public is rising up against your tide and the people will demand the truth from the Ivory tower. I made you a cup of tea for you. Relax my friend it's over!

  • I would but mainstream media doesn't cover the real news, and manipulates the true science. I'm very surprised someone so in tune to bias has not recognized that. Sooooooooo more TSN coming your way my friend. I still haven't read about exploding skulls. The experiment continues!

Just to follow up on this.

I agree the non-specialist mainstream media simplified things - and if you are an antivaxer you will see that as bias.

There are many specialist sites that don't have any special axe to grid, blogs from individual scientists, etc, etc. They all say different things. They all universally condemn the extreme antivax positions - not because they accept what governments say, or are sure vaccines are safe, but because like me they know non-science propaganda when they see it.

TSN had a clear mission to expose bad behaviour from the pharma industry which has somehow morphed into antivax propaganda.

There is now almost no investigative journalism about pharma - what TSN ought to be doing - and a lot of antivax propaganda.

  • They all universally condemn the extreme antivax positions

This is outraging silly FUD. We say age <50 does not need a CoV-19 gene therapy = pseudo vaccine. So best case we are anti gene therapy. We also strongly urge people not to take at all Pfizer and Oxford crap. Not so for Moderna.

But the world wide FM/R/X/B fascists (= people that sell humans for money) use their own unique rhetoric that unluckily for our forum clown(s) has zero influence on educated minds.

May be these clowns should switch to a desperate house wives forum.

I wait for more post like:: Fish cannot swim in water and CoV-19 vaccines make you happy....

  • Some things we agree 100% . TSN should be going after big pharma and they have and will again. I'm sure when you finally realize that it's over, your opinion will change on TSN. They are first and foremost the most reliable site bring new studies to light and the money involved. My interests go back to the 2018 when they first began monitoring breast cancer trials. TSN overall is not bias and your continued attacks are the rantings of someone uninformed. Try reading before you pass stupid judgements and tags

  • I did predict it! More fun comes. A straw man explains us his methods...

Character assignation, veiled attempts to discredit, and now strawman. All industry tactics to confuse and defuse. I have been very patient in determining if your character discription of Thomas had merit. I'm a believer now! Sorry it took so long

  • TSN overall is not bias and your continued attacks are the rantings of someone uninformed. Try reading before you pass stupid judgements

You will note that my general comments now about TSN (which initially i quite liked) are backed by a very large number of specifics where I have noted Ron Brown (on TSN staff) and various op eds, as making arguments that are scientifically indefensible. I don't post details now so much because it is not interesting to repeat things.

You can choose to ignore that. Calling it uninformed is obviously wrong, because I am pretty well informed. I might be interpreting info with bias, or I might be making mistakes. I wonder how you know either of those things is true? And which comments I have made that show it?

  • Character assignation, veiled attempts to discredit, and now strawman. All industry tactics to confuse and defuse.

I will stay polite to you though it is not easy.

Straw man - simplifying my arguments about covid and vaccine risk, and masks as "fearmongering".

That is 100% false I'd like you to apologise sincerely.

    • I have said vaccine is sfaer than covid 9in most circumstances - which is not fearmingering - becauise the vaccines are very safe.
    • I have repeatedly said, ever since UK was 80% vaccianted and our covid deaths were manageable with high infection rate - that basically covid now is like flu - needs managing, and can be very nasty, but with enough vaccination it is OK.
    • I have also said that without vaccination - it will in the end be ok because everyone will have had covid. the differnece is while that happens, more people die. And the rate of death can be an issue for health systems (esp in UK)
    • I ahve said masks don't make a lot of difference, but they clearly make some (for other people) so am on the side of people keeping other people safer. Although most peopel are now vaccinated some people cannot be so, or have poor immune systems. They will want not to catch covid - or to wait till we have betetr drugs available at least.
    • On lockdown i've consistently said it is about governments managing health systems. that what Sweden did is brave and may or may bot be a good idea.
    • I have consistently argued against the antivax fearmongers who say we will all die from a scary new variant. Anything is possible, but that does not look too likely

Where is any of that fear-mongering? Your commenst here are both insults and 100% wrong.

  • Oh my friend, I hurt your feelings, much like your anti vax label you associate with me and some of the boys. Get over it !

  • The full paragraph:: At the country-level, there appears to be no discernable relationship between percentage of population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days (Fig. 1). In fact, the trend line suggests a marginally positive association such that countries with higher percentage of population fully vaccinated have higher COVID-19 cases per 1 million people.

This effect now is worsening:: See again :: https://assets.publishing.serv…llance-report-week-41.pdf

As mentioned:: The damaging effect of spike antibodies accumulates over time!! See table 2 page 13.

Thanks for linking that. I do see what you you mean on table 2. I also notice on table 3 and 4 on the subsequent pages that there are more emergency room admissions and more deaths among the unvaccinated, in some cases as much as 4 or 5 times. This would seem to support the narrative that the vaccines do help reduce severity and death but not so much effective with regards to case counts and transmission would it not?

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the word “vaccine” has been tossed around casually and frequently. The overused word has been uttered by people both pro and anti-vaccine as if a scientist just opened a petri dish, poured in a few ingredients, stirred the concoction with a swizzle stick, and voila, a cure. Not so fast. According to a New York Times article dated November 19, 2018, a full year or so before the onset of Covid, developing a vaccine wasn’t easy nor was it cheap. It also is not something on top of everyone’s list. That’s because, according to the Times, “vaccines are among the most ingenious of inventions and among the most maddening.”

Some diseases have been significantly diminished because of vaccines. Polio and smallpox are prime examples. However, other diseases like malaria and HIV are stumping scientists to this day. Even though there are vaccines to treat those illnesses they’re difficult to take on because they mutate. “Mutate” should be a familiar word especially in this era of Coronavirus.

The Times article says that vaccines have changed our “expectations of mortality.” To a certain degree vaccines are taken for granted. Children are vaccinated for measles and mumps, in many instances, before they’re even aware of their consciousness. It’s something that seems to be done automatically.

But developing vaccines is expensive and are generally only available to countries and continents that can afford them. The result is that Corporations only pursue vaccines that are going to make them a profit, including vaccines for the military, American children, and bioweapons. Vaccines for diseases in poor countries off the corporate radar are ignored.

What’s fascinating about the 2018 Times article is the fact that “fear changes everything. In epidemiologically quiet times, the anti-vaccine lobby sows doubts; when Ebola or pandemic flu strikes, Americans clamor for protection.” Sound familiar?

Believe it or not, the goal of vaccines is to get to herd immunity. Again, sound familiar? Dr. Anthony Fauci said in a Newsweek article at the onset of the pandemic (March 27, 2020) that he was “’really confident’ that people who recover from the novel coronavirus gain immunity from the infection.” He later went on to say that he wasn’t “100 percent certain” because a full study hadn’t been carried out. At this point, the Covid vaccines have been a statistically proven deterrent to hospitalization and death.

The more people who are vaccinated, the more protections, for at least a period, are in place. That this first early crop of vaccines supports the quest for herd immunity is less certain. That’s because with evidence of waning effectiveness and overpowering variants that lead to breakthrough infection the goal of only using one version of vaccines to overcome a mutating variant looks like a high mountain to conquer. But natural immunity may certainly help. Whether Fauci is right about people who recover from the virus is still questionable, but according to some research after recovery immunity from the virus can last up to 8 months to as many as 15 months.

Both the New York Times article and the Newsweek piece were written before Covid was a national and international crisis. But they both relate to what’s happening today. One thing for certain is that physicians will need a range of tools at their disposal from vaccines and antiviral treatments for early-onset care to a better understanding of natural immunity. When will the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invest in serious study of natural immunity?

One thought to ponder on the difficulty of developing safe and effective vaccines: has anything really changed since this New York Times piece in 2018?

Why Don’t We Have Vaccines Against Everything? (Published 2018)
Money is just the obvious obstacle. A few diseases, like H.I.V., so far have outwitted both the immune system and scientists.

  • Thanks for linking that. I do see what you you mean on table 2. I also notice on table 3 and 4 on the subsequent pages that there are more emergency room admissions and more deaths among the unvaccinated, in some cases as much as 4 or 5 times.

This is the short time protection effect only. Also not accounted for natural immunity from CoV-19 and other corona infections. 80+ UK has no more protection if no past CoV-19 infection is there.

My point is: We have to find better rules for vaccination (gene therapy). It would restrict it to a small narrow band of people age >65 and some younger at risk. For people age <50 there is no difference to a strong flu. Here we have early treatment.

But most important. Teach everybody that after symptoms he has to use the Ziverdo kit ASAP!

Finally UK figures show that there is 0=zero justification for vaccine passports. Even worse some vaccinated should be excluded now.

  • Believe it or not, the goal of vaccines is to get to herd immunity.

Talk to any government leader at the moment! They would all like herd immunity - and their own scientists have been saying ever since delta that is maybe not possible, because delta is 3X more transmissable as original COVID. We still don't know whether herd immunity from combo of vaccine + covid-prior-infection immunity is possible. It is likely to happen eventually. Antivaxers make it harder. Lower efficacy against transmission from vaccines makes it harder.

Apart from herd immunity - to make COVID go away - they would like less people dying, so they can treat it like Flu and get on with other things. That is more of less what the vaccine is giving.

Saying "the goal of vaccines is to get herd immunity" is just silly. It is one goal. The other, easier, goal is to allow an epidemic with many fewer people dying. Flu vaccine works like that. Easy for a vaccine to reduce deaths. Otherwise you need the right population:

    • Uttar Pradesh
    • Amish community
    • Orthodox Jewish village zelenko gets patients from
    • Many developing world countries

All those populations solve the problem, without drugs, vaccines, etc. Just because people are 20-30 years younger! 25 years => mortality reduces by 15X (approx). That is the same as a fully vaccinated population!

  • This one is perhaps more boring than porn, but equally void of science.

You are talking about the Dominican Republic Ivermectin "success" story on TSN's. It is not exactly "void of science", as there is an observational aspect to the hospital systems story. And it rises well above the level of anecdotal when doctors losing patients doing what the world health bodies recommend (do nothing), switch to another treatment and all of a sudden see a remarkable turn-around.

I think though, the real story here is about how the developed worlds health care industry has become cumbersome, bureaucratic, loaded with conflicts of interest, profit oriented, and polluted with politics...making them unable to quickly respond to a health care emergency such as this pandemic. They have become process oriented, selfish, and forgotten the main reason they are there...the patient. They have simply lost touch.

The small poor countries like the DR however, lacking resources, have been forced to do it the old fashioned way....via a close patient-doctor relationship. They do not have the luxury of waiting years for an RCT, or "the science". Amazingly that seems to be working. They have been quick to incorporate new, cheap, and simple techniques and protocols that show almost instant improvements. If it doesn't wok, they do something else.

End result is that the DR's of the world appear to be saving lives, and at the least "doing no harm". Maybe the rest of the world will learn something from them. I doubt it though. Too much money and power keeping it the way it is.

How many lives have coronavirus vaccines saved? We used state data on deaths and vaccination rates to find out
Using a robust statistical model, researchers estimate that coronavirus vaccines had prevented 140,000 deaths by May 9, 2021.
    theconversation.com

They developed a model, which gave results with vaccines which were within 2% of the actual deaths. They then turned off vaccines in the model.

    Answer : 140,000 up to May 9th 2021

    Paywalled paper at https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/hlthaff.2021.00619

    Abstract

COVID-19 vaccination campaigns continue in the United States, with the expectation that vaccines will slow transmission of the virus, save lives, and enable a return to normal life in due course. However, the extent to which faster vaccine administration has affected COVID-19-related deaths is unknown. We assessed the association between US state-level vaccination rates and COVID-19 deaths during the first five months of vaccine availability. We estimated that by May 9, 2021, the US vaccination campaign was associated with a reduction of 139,393 COVID-19 deaths. The association varied in different states. In New York, for example, vaccinations led to an estimated 11.7 fewer COVID-19 deaths per 10,000, whereas Hawaii observed the smallest reduction, with an estimated 1.1 fewer deaths per 10,000. Overall, our analysis suggests that the early COVID-19 vaccination campaign was associated with reductions in COVID-19 deaths. As of May 9, 2021, reductions in COVID-19 deaths associated with vaccines had translated to value of statistical life benefit ranging between $625 billion and $1.4 trillion.

  • And it rises well above the level of anecdotal when doctors losing patients doing what the world health bodies recommend (do nothing), switch to another treatment and all of a sudden see a remarkable turn-around.

Yes. Even more, in the quote below from an article I linked to earlier, we're talking about doctors who actually did try a lot of different things to see if they worked. Disappointment after disappointment, and then ... jackpot. So this is not naive, wishful thinking splattered upon a blank canvas. Rather there is deep context involved, where doctors have come to know by hands on experience what works and what doesn't.

Kory’s data was corroborated by Dr. Andrew Hill, a renowned University of Liverpool pharmacologist and independent medical researcher, and the senior World Health Organization/UNITAID investigator of potential treatments for COVID-19. Hill’s team of twenty-three researchers in twenty-three countries had reported that, after nine months of looking for a COVID-19 treatment and finding nothing but failures like Remdesivir—“we kissed a lot of frogs”— Ivermectin was the only thing that worked against COVID-19, and its safety and efficacy were astonishing—“blindingly positive,” Hill said, and “transformative.” Ivermectin, the WHO researcher concluded, reduced COVID-19 morality by 81 percent.

  • All those populations solve the problem, without drugs, vaccines, etc. Just because people are 20-30 years younger! 25 years => mortality reduces by 15X (approx). That is the same as a fully vaccinated population!

More Mafia FUD!! A vaccinated population still has CoV-19. A treated one with natural immunity has herd immunity.

    Just a tiny difference.
