If one goes by how contagious this virus is, I’m afraid everyone on that ship is already infected, they should test everyone, but there’s no logistic capacity for that.

Other bad news from Japan, from the N.Y. Times:

Japan confirms its first death from the coronavirus.

The Japanese authorities announced on Thursday the first death in the country from the new coronavirus.

Health Minister Katsunobu Kato said at a news conference that a woman in her 80s who lived in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, had died that day.

Her death is the third from the coronavirus outside mainland China, after one each in the Philippines and Hong Kong. The Japanese woman had no record of travel to mainland China.

  • therefore is, Covid-19 is artificial chimeric virus, targetted to Asian population - but not as a bioweapon but escaping from lab during particular immunologic research subsidized by USA.

From the virus's point of view, it would be easier for it to "escape" with genes targeting the genes of the researchers of a lab that with genes from another group. That is, if it escapes carried out by/in a worker, it would have genes adapted to the genes of the prevalent workers.

According to conspirologists, the virus escaped level 4 facility when infected bat left it through open window used by poorly trained staff for smoking. Then the bat, like postal pigeon, joined native pack in a cage on the wet market.

Postal bats are widely used by Chinese military due to their excellent ability to operated in reduced visibility conditions.

  • An epidemic has emerged in the Chinese Navy. After a serviceman of the Navy Submarine Force in Sanya, Hainan, was diagnosed with Covid-19, 300 sailors were isolated, and training programs on nuclear submarines, scheduled to start this month, have been suspended.

  • A doctor in Wakayama Pref. discovered he has the Wuhan flu. He has no known connection to any other patient. He thought he had a cold, so he continued to practice for 3 days after symptoms developed, which is an insane thing for a doctor to do.

    This is really bad news.

  • Next ICCF organizers in China should be worried. Even if the disease would be eradicated at end 2020, Lenr staff made up of elderly people essentially so more fragile, will surely not take this risk to go to China..

Maybe it will be necessary to change country to reassure people ?

JedRothwell, this has been happening all over the world, this virus is absolutely contagious, is an epidemiologic nightmare, impossible to contain. One can only hope to be in good health to not be downed by it.

Now is going Mainstream, anyone that wanted to do any "preps" to beat the panic, the window is closing, I am personally betting on staying healthy.

That can't hurt but how do you do it? If you know for sure, you'd better write a book, quick!

The main thing people can do is to learn reasonable protective techniques. The main ones I know, feel free to add yours:

    1) stay away from crowded places if you can -- many of us can't (buses, subways, airports, grocery shops, etc.)

    2) carry a hand disinfectant like Purell -- any with alcohol content of 65% or greater will help-- use it often -- don't wipe it off, let it dry on its own.

    3) when away from home, if in an area where the disease is known to be, wear a protective mask, surgical level 3 (USA) or N95. These protect 99+% against 0.1 micron particles. Any mask is better than none. These will be hoarded so get some now. Keep them dry and clean and in plastic when not used and change them often.

    4) wear some type of eye protection when out in public

    5) when out in public, do not touch any part of your face, especially not your eyes, mouth or nose

    6) this is difficult but avoid public touch pads as much as possible... near field communications payment like Apple-pay help but some silly places still require you to enter a PIN.

    7) if you get sick, get help early.

These suggestions are apparently most important for people older than 60 (the older the "worser") and anyone with chronic illness or immune deficiency or organ replacement or treatment with monoclonal antibodies (often medicines with names ending in -mab)
