As I have said -- too many times -- I only wish the UK and the U.S. had learned from Japan . . . Last night there was an in-depth documentary and interview with the team of epidemiologists in Japan who are finding clusters of cases, and identifying links. There are only about 30 of them! It is extraordinary. It is surely the most amazing accomplishment in the history of public health. Of course there are thousands of other people doing field work such as asking patients where they have been. Maybe they look at cell phone records? I don't know. Anyway, this small group is doing the most important job of spotting clusters, and patients who are not connected with anyone else which may indicate a hidden cluster. The head of the effort is middle-aged prof. He said what is most needed for this work is "to be afraid, very afraid." They cannot let down their guard for even an hour. He said he deeply regrets that the situation has gotten out of control in the EU and the U.S.

Brave New World - none of this would have been necessary if the authorities had acted at the same time as China in mass distribution of anti-viral medicines. The total number of deaths curve in China begins to flatten out on 20 Feb just after chloroquine delivery from Pakistan. Just as Italy was erupting in an exponential rise. Hopefully the three day decrease following chloroquine/azithromycin therapy begun on 20 March will continue in Italy and then can be extended to the rest of us. The question arises though could all of this and the devastating economic meltdown have been avoided if Bayer along with all other big pharma had responded immediately on 20 Feb flooding pharmacies across the World with supplies of hundreds of millions of Chloroquine doses? Why was it just China? Instead of the opposite reaction of UK pharmacies telling everyone that it would never work and trying to restrict people from any access to it and insidiously stockpiling it anyway by restricting any exports?
There’s a lot to unpack with what you are arguing. South Korea went right into chloroquine too, and they had 7 recorded deaths today. China has had recorded deaths over the last week as well.
I hope chloroquine is the answer to all of this. But perhaps it doesn’t alway work for everyone in all cases. We will know a lot more in the coming weeks now that it is being put to widespread use in the West. If it brings the death rate down substantially it will be a huge sigh of relief. Not a home-free by any means, but a better wait to a vaccine.

We are 32 days later, and tomorrow New York Doctors have been given official approval to start with the Chloroquine. Not bad at all IMO, but since you were on this so early, and kept "banging the drum" as Deleo said..even taking a few arrows in the process, you are more than welcome to have your own opinion.

The mortality rate among children is 0.3, three times worse than the flu, and the lifelong complications are much more common, and far worse. If you don't think that is a very, very serious problem, you have no knowledge of medical science, and no common sense.
Re-infection of recovered patients is already happening in Italy, though there is scant data yet.
The Japanese epidemiologist on national TV and Dr. Larry Brilliant say we shouldn't worry about this. They say it might happen, but it is probably so rare it makes no difference. QUOTE:

No, I get it. Chloroquine is a powerful drug. People with certain conditions can have very negative reactions to it. Here is another story that sounds unrelated to the one you are mentioning.

Indeed measles is extremely contagious. But Jed you weren't listening. He said *America*, not countries where people lack for proper nutrition and hygiene, where yes measles can even be deadly. (Give them vitamin A and it would not be like that!) Even I would recommend the measles vaccine in certain countries, for certain populations. That is because it is a live, attenuated vaccine. But inactivated vaccines like DTaP is another story. Those vaccines kill many times more children than they save, killed from non specific conditions (ie, disease not targeted for by the vaccine). Watch a health worker in the field, an MD and PhD, share her team's findings from African villages.
Relating this to covid19. I've heard advice that people should get their yearly flu vaccine, that it will offer some protection against covid19. Wrong. It may do exactly the opposite, with a phenomenon known as 'virus vaccine interference', increasing the odds of corona virus infection by over 30 percent. See

A man died after ingesting an additive used to clean fish tanks — the pharmaceutical drug version of which has been touted by President Trump as a potential coronavirus cure.

Japan’s National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM) is planning a clinical trial for Teijin’s Alvesco (ciclesonide), for the treatment of pre-symptomatic patients infected with the Covid
.. whether Alvesco is effective in preventing virus-infected patients with no pneumonia symptoms from developing COVID-19 pneumonia, Norio Omagari, head of the NCGM’s Disease Control and Prevention Center, said at a press conference on March 23. The center is currently compiling a protocol, aiming to start the trial as soon as possible.

Although one of their typical political hit pieces, I do give them credit for at least warning readers: "Sellers of the fish tank product warn it is not for human consumption".
Now think about it; this bright idea to drink a cleaning product was the wife's. The husband is dead, while she is still alive...although she claims to have gotten sick also. Although not too sick to talk to the news, and make it a point to drag Trump into this. What does that tell you?
Tells me, either this story is better suited for "True Detective" magazine (if that is still in print), and if not, is a candidate for this years Darwin Award.
My order of chloroquine from 24x7 pharma that SOT suggested earlier is still held up in customs for 5 or so days. Do the bureaucrats realize they are costing lives holding up these deliveries? Tell everyone you can media, politicians everyone! Shout it from the rooftops! When this is all over those responsible for restricting anti-virus medicines may well face justice. There is no excuse for it, all the evidence is in the public domain now and in the UK will be either sued privately or face criminal prosecution. This negligence is allowing people to die unnecessarily. Family, friends, relatives.
