SC (super conduction) with Pd is only possible/useful for very expensive equipment. The main problem is that SC cannot load very large currents and using it for transmission lines would need a very very cheap SC material.

None of these projects look like cold fusion/LENR to me. This seems more like high-energy materials experiments. What am I missing?

Well if it is 2 or 3 orders of magnitude above coal/gas in energy density with similar common elements and nonradioactive byproducts, doesn't this accomplish the same wonders?

I will take anything that is better for sure!
It's just using accelerators is not low-energy. But through this materials research they will hopefully find a hydrogen-loaded material that will activate as needed.
So much basic science needs to be figured out. I am too anxious and impatient for a technology.

The concept is to use accelerator for screening of many fuel candidates. The most promising candidates will be tested then in LENR reactors.

One question I have here is are they not aware of Holmlid's revolutionary work? He has advanced the theoretical field both by practical experimental work and demonstrated that the reaction chain UDD + catalyst (FeO2) = Kaon release-pions to muons stimulated by a simple YAG laser set up. Have they not read his papers/? (like everyone else unfortunately in the scientific community!!!!!) Incorporating this technology into some practical device is surely the way forward?

I recall Holmlid earlier stated that his work should not be confused with LENR.
CleanHME's target seems to focus on Metal-Hydrogen and plasma related LENR.
People active in LENR research will be aware of Holmlid's work. But CleanHME is also about dividing a limited amount EU funds amongst researchers, so they might not advertise work of others.
Norront, implementing Holmlid's work, is a Norwegian company and therefore not a candidate for EU funding. -
I believe it is all the same underlying science, but I guess that's just my opinion. My worry is that without incorporating new fresh ideas and approaches (as Holmlid's work suggests) this big research initiative will end up like the Google study and maybe find small but difficult to replicate LENR effects. It all comes down to basic physics in the end - whether Holmlid acknowledges the existence of LENR or not.

Some forum members like Wyttenbach agree with you, the common factor is ultra dense hydrogen. I agree with this too.
LENR researchers should focus on this common factor and likely will in my opinion. -
