Updates from Google on LENR research

  • Today I came across a recently published patent application from Google / University of California / University of British Columbia.

Looks like Google deserves a dedicated thread in the Players section therefore I created this one, since I could not find an existing thread.

It may be useful to publish all upcoming updates from Google (Team) in this thread.

    Regarding the Google patent application:

Apparatus And Method For Sourcing Fusion Reaction Products

    Abstract

An apparatus and method for sourcing nuclear fusion products uses an electrochemical loading process to load low-kinetic-energy (low-k) light element particles into a target electrode, which comprises a light-element-absorbing material (e.g., Palladium). An electrolyte solution containing the low-k light element particles is maintained in contact with a backside surface of the target electrode while a bias voltage is applied between the target electrode and an electrochemical anode, thereby causing low-k light element particles to diffuse from the backside surface to an opposing frontside surface of the target electrode. High-kinetic-energy (high-k) light element particles are directed against the frontside, thereby causing fusion reactions each time a high-k light element particle operably collides with a low-k light element particle disposed on the frontside surface. Fusion reaction rates are controlled by adjusting the bias voltage.

It's interesting to see they aim to combine electrolysis with high voltage plasma by having the cathode of the electrolysis serving as a separation membrane between the electrolysis compartment and the high voltage plasma compartment. From the application it is not clear whether they actually build this setup yet since no measurement data is provided.

To me this seems unnecessarily complicated.

Instead I would propose a high pressure gas compartment and a low pressure gas compartment with the cathode membrane acting as a seperator, with similar functions, leaving out the electrochemical part.

  • It looks like what nkodama proposed here.

  • There’s a bunch of aggregated threads of NKodama, he also has a ResearchGate page where he has uploaded a couple of papers he got published.

I certainly Hope to see LENR helping humans to blossom, and I'm here to help it happen.

  • Hmmm...

Is this the first cold fusion LENR CMNS energy patent that has been assigned to the U.S. Department of Energy?

  • Thanks. We had the old thread on Google developments (post Nature), but it was getting stale so good idea to start anew with yours. It is your baby now.

Ahlfors (of course) was on to this newer patent when it came out.... RE: Google (UBC/MIT/LBNL) post Nature updates.

It looks like Google and partners are in for the longer run when it comes to LENR research, so a thread in the ´players´ section makes it more structured. The link you referred to is in the Russian section (don't ask me why, members find it hard to keep this forum structured).

Assigned to UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

    2021-05-20

4 times a new assignee in a row.

DOE probably took over the financing of this research. Remarkable indeed.

  • Regarding the Google et. al. patent, look at the last event in the file a few months before the publication date:

So if granted, the rights would now belong to the US government. Could be good, could be bad, but any comments should probably avoid political content, which is discouraged here.

Hard to understand why that happened.

    There could be several reasons:

    - US Government wants to safeguard innovative energy technologies and regulate license of it.

    - They don't want companies like Google to control this kind of technologies (I am not sure US Government can enforce ownership of it though)

    - They want to control/safeguard further development of this specific technology.

    - They want to prohibit that foreign companies or countries get ownership of this technology.

In either case(s), this is a very remarkable event.

Might be good to monitor this kind of UA Gov. strategy regarding any new LENR related patent applications.

  • - They want to control/safeguard further development of this specific technology.

    - They want to prohibit that foreign companies or countries get ownership of this technology.

Then the oil again and again..

Don't forget that DOE and DOD, probably not tender organizations checked earlier Rossi's technologies in 2010.. or something like that.

Why visiting a stupid convict ??

Of course i don't mix here our US friends and a government.

Enhanced Electron Screening Through Plasmon Oscillations US10566094B2

US10566094B2 - Enhanced electron screening through plasmon oscillations - Google Patents

    Abstract

Enhanced Coulomb repulsion screening around light element nuclei is achieved by way of utilizing electromagnetic (EM) radiation to induce plasmon oscillations in target structures (e.g., nanoparticles) in a way that produces high density electron clouds in localized regions of the target structures, thereby generating charge density variations around light element atoms located in the localized regions. Each target structure includes an electrically conductive body including light elements (e.g., a metal hydride/deuteride/tritide) that is configured to undergo plasmon oscillations in response to the applied EM radiation. The induced oscillations causes free electrons to converge in the localized region, thereby producing transient high electron charge density levels that enhance Coulomb repulsion screening around light element (e.g., deuterium) atoms located in the localized regions. Various systems capable of implementing enhanced Coulomb repulsion screening are described, and various nanostructure compositions and configurations are disclosed that serve to further enhance fusion reaction rates.

Target Structure for Enhanced Electron Screening US10264661B2

US10264661B2 - Target structure for enhanced electron screening - Google Patents

    Abstract

Enhanced Coulomb repulsion (electron) screening around light element nuclei is achieved by way of utilizing target structures (e.g., nanoparticles) that undergo plasmon oscillation when subjected to electromagnetic (EM) radiation, whereby transient high density electron clouds are produced in localized regions of the target structures during each plasmon oscillation cycle. Each target structure includes an integral body composed of an electrically conductive material that contains light element atoms (e.g., metal hydrides, metal deuterides or metal tritides). The integral body is also configured (i.e., shaped/sized) to undergo plasmon oscillations in response to the applied EM radiation such that the transient high density electron clouds are formed during each plasmon oscillation cycle, whereby brief but significantly elevated charge density variations are generated around light element (e.g., deuterium) atoms located in the localized regions, thereby enhancing Coulomb repulsion screening to enhance nuclear fusion reaction rates. Various target structure compositions and configurations are disclosed.

  • Google has serious tools.

    Optometrist is one... from 2017.

Might this be used in their CMNS research?

Google’s New Algorithm Wants to Help Researchers Stabilize Nuclear Fusion Reactions

Where does Google’s algorithm fit in? Well, it could significantly shorten the amount of time needed for each of these experiments. “Results like this might take years to solve without the power of advanced computation,” Baltz said. By running computational models alongside human experiments, the Optometrist algorithm can breeze through every possible combination for nuclear fusion to work.

  • Quote Alan Smith
When key players complain bitterly that Google never asked their advice (and ignored/overlooked established protocols because of that) it is reasonably safe to assume that they have not given advice under NDA. -end quote

    Perhaps
The Google Inc. team doesn't need much advice. They are more than capable to assign a hundred research assistants to compile, review and analyze every shred of research and other relevant research in all fields related to CMNS reactor engineering. Also, the US government researchers have opened all their research protocols and data to them.

  • Provisional application No.62/937,716, filed on Nov. 19,2019, preceding US20210151206A1 provides interesting insights how this patent application became what it is now.

As often is the case with provisionals it is basically a collection of snapshots of various information sources.

It shows e.g. that they have implemented real test setups and did related experiments.

It also shows that quite a number of other people were involved in making the plans, their conversations and ideas.

    Attached the provisional patent application.

  • Interesting group of inventors. A look at each of their patent histories lends insight.

Matthew D Trevithick has worked on the following Spindletop Corporation patent alongside Peter Hagelstein...

Methods and apparatus for energy conversion using materials comprising molecular deuterium and molecular hydrogen-deuterium

    Abstract

A method and apparatus are described which employ processing a host material (202) to cause molecular deuterium (D2) and / or molecular hydrogen deuterium (HD) to be present within the host material, and processing the host material to cause at least one of He- 4 and He-3 to be present within the host material. Stimulating the host material generates reactions, and energy is withdrawn from the host material.
