    Anyways, if I were writing Cold Fusion patent applications, I would reference Boeing, the Navy, Toshiba etc., rather than a one man new physics band if I were hoping it would go anywhere. Just common sense.

  • I despair that the Boeing Corp are getting onto the LENR bandwagon, when their 737's are dropping from the skies! Don't they realise that all digital control systems, without an analogue over-ride, can be hacked into by viruses, rendering the aircraft unflyable?

    Every major energy user and manufacturer of energy users always keeps an eye open for large cost savings for them and cost efficiencies for their customers (fuel consumption is a primary criteria for commercial airline fleets).

    Almost all new aircraft are un-flyable without electronics already. Also using electronics to function are cars, blenders, cordless drills, thermometers…

    They have an override, and it is called a Pilot. When things go haywire, the first thing well trained pilots are taught is to disconnect and manually fly the plane. Many of these foreign carriers do not have the best qualified pilots though. They lack confidence in their hand flying skills, and some of these crashes are attributed to their hesitancy to disconnect the autopilot. That is why the US, and western European pilots are so heavily recruited throughout the world.


    That is not to say we do not have some of the same problems, as even the best pilots get lazy and rely too much on automation. That is mostly the senior pilots who fly international. So every 6 months everyone goes into the simulator to practice doing things the old fashioned way.


    And all aircraft major systems like the altimeter/airspeed, do have back-up analog, or vacum/ram air run "Standbys". They are a pain to fly with though as they lag, are small, and are positioned awkwardly.

    In accordance with a preferred embodiment, a cold fusion thermal generator is provided which uses the electrolysis of water (H₂O) in the electrolyte to pack hydrogen in a specially adapted cathode. The cathode comprises a matrix of boron and a molecular sieve that selectively adsorbs hydrogen and releases helium. An inert hydrogen adsorbing metal such as palladium or platinum may be included in the matrix to improve electrical conductivity. The anode comprises an electrically conductive chemically resistant metal such as Monel and preferably surrounds the cathode. The electrodes are retained in a pressure vessel adjacent a container for a heat exchange fluid. Vents are provided for gases produced by the electrolysis and fusion reactions. Means are provided to replenish the electrolyte while the cell is operating.

    To operate the reactor, a current of suitable density and voltage is applied across the electrodes. Hydrogen is generated by electrolysis of water and adsorbed in the cathode at high densities. The protons fuse with the boron nuclei by the reaction


    p + ¹¹B → 3α (8.7 MeV).

    The heat released by the reaction is transferred through the electrolyte in the pressurized vessel into a heat exchange fluid by conventional means. The helium formed from the alpha particles and oxygen from the electrolysis are vented from the cell. The rate of reaction may be controlled by controlling the rate of electrolytic hydrogen production.

    A like method of producing heat by fusion entails substituting Lithium for boron at the cathode and applying appropriate current density and voltage to cause the following reaction


    p + ⁶Li → ³He + α (4.0 MeV).

  • Notice that the helium produced is allowed to escape to space. It is my understanding that currently less helium is produced than used. Anyway if this invention goes online a lot of helium can be harvested. It then becomes imperative to use it in lenr. Research into lenr from the alpha chain is needed now.

  • A bit of history 2014 or so... I remember finding a reference to Phase III being still in the works. Marty Bradley worked closely with Doug Wells (NASA) on phase II of this work. I am fairly sure Boeing has continued vested interest in this space.

For Boeing, he is the leader for a variety of projects related to green aircraft technologies, aviation environmental life cycle analysis, and propulsion integration for advanced technologies. Marty has 28-years of experience in vehicle design, propulsion integration, and technology studies for a wide variety of commercial and military aerospace applications. He has led and conducted projects for green aircraft design, alternative fuels, and environmental life cycle analysis (LCA).


    Marty is the Principal Investigator for this NASA funded study looking at advanced technologies for future commercial aircraft, which will be discussed. Marty has a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, all from the University of Southern California.
