    The eight teams chosen for ARPA-e funding are focused on measuring nuclear products. And it is argued that when neutrons are produced, that is not cold fusion. Cold fusion as defined by me and others is when two deuterons form helium. No neutrons are produced as final products. LENR is all the other attendant nuclear reactions discovered whilst trying to figure out cold fusion. I'll add that I am defining Solid State Fusion as the search for a useful heat technology.


    These eight are definitely on the LENR tip. It is not clear that all of the eight have produced LENR, though some have. It seems several of these eight labs are ready to take materials from the community and test them, but not make the LENR themselves. Does this seem like what is happening?

    Not a chance. The whole annoucement is a travesty. It destroys their credibility. As I wrote in the other thread where Ruby posted this --

    I believe we do not have a typo, and that is exactly the plan. How they get to higher heat I don't know. It will not be jumping orders of magnitude straight away. That is ridiculous. Currently, they are working on an increased surface area to up the power output. No doubt they will be creeping up as they can. These are not ridiculous people!


    We also do not know the boiler design that Miura/Mitsubishi/Toyota will work on. Clean Planet is ambitious, and they have become more so since their success. Perhaps there are sights on power plants as an intermediary step to distributed power? We just don't know.


    I do not see where Iwamura expressed concerns. I see where he honestly told his thoughts. I have a problem with anyone who would say Yasuhiro is mistaken.


    This piece I put together was so I myself could see "what was the proof of Clean Planet claims?". I like to research the topic, try to figure the gist, and lay it down in as linear a way as possible, so I can understand it. The proof that makes me accept Clean Planet's claims are;


    1. a TEAM of experienced, talented LENR researchers with decades of increasingly successful results.

    2. full participation of academic, industry and agency and the entire country of Japan.

    3. no more public reports of their ever-climbing excess heat power; only little heat reports and science results.

    4. a confirmation of certain facts at the IWAHLM15


    It is for these reasons that I stand my claim: Clean Power will make it happen, whatever the power level. It will be low first, and then they will be on a roll.


    There are other labs doing it too. Can you name the other labs that are in the race for a technology? There are three at least on the North American continent. Around the world, a handful of labs may get the resources they need now that Clean Planet has jumped to the lead.

    That's all I really have to say about this topic. There is little that could change my mind about my conclusion here, i.e., that we should believe Clean Planet when they say something. Unless new information comes to light, of course.

Unless the reaction is fully under control, 600 kW would be very dangerous. We will not know it is fully under control until it is tested in hundreds of labs run by regulators and safety testing companies.


    600 kW is more than enough to kill someone from a steam explosion. If the reactor goes even a little out of control, it will destroy a building. No one is going to introduce a commercial product in 2025 that produces that much power from an unknown nuclear reaction which has no theoretical explanation. That is completely out of the question. When they say they are going to do that, it destroys their credibility.


    Frankly, I find their claims difficult to believe for those reasons and many others. I would have a lot more confidence if they would release an independent evaluation or replication.

    That's an update from Clean Planet. I will check for a typo, but that is what we are getting from Clean Planet. Also, given that value correct, I believe they are not jumping straight to that, but doing a 10 kW first.

    Many have made the claim to a commercial LENR product, and yet we still have nothing. Can we really expect Clean Planet to produce a heater within three years time? What is the evidence that this could be true? How can we believe that this time is different?


    Clean Planet's core research team centers around former-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries scientist Yasuhiro Iwamura, known for his innovative transmutation work that has advanced into stunning nano-particle thin-films results.     They are working to scale-up the output power by increasing the surface area of the generator, which means more material to host the reaction. Previous claims were of 5 Watts per square-centimeter of nano-particle nickel-copper layers. Iwamura says units are now targeting levels over 1kW and up to 10kW thermal output power. Heat output continues without re-filling hydrogen for months at a time. He estimates a heat generator to be available to the industrial sector within 5-10 years.


    Clean Planet has interest in the mobile sector, too, intending to apply the technology to cars and airplanes. Heaters for residential units will depend on satisfying government regulation requirements.

    There is no reason to say "they are telling stories".


    Previous ICCFs have seen Japanese scientists report incrementally higher and higher thermal output, touting achievements up to several hundred watts. At ICCF24, we heard no such reports. Power outputs were often at 5 Watts, 15 Watts, etc., while other experimental parameters are varied.


    Do you see? Clean Planet no longer has to report on their struggle for higher output power. They already have it, and are moving to the next phase of commercializing their output, while continuing to tease out the science.

    The names popular at the ICCF24 also included Metal Hydrogen Energy, the term used by Japanese researchers for a few years now. I heard that one a lot. Also, "solid state energy" is what organizers focused on in the title of the meeting. I heard "nano-nuclear". There are a lot of new ones.

    I believe it is because presenters want to make a name that is easily digested by people who are totally against nuclear power like environmentalists, silicon valley people, etc. They also want to separate from "cold fusion" , which Scott Hsu doesn't like.

    Well, they said they are testing 1 kW prototypes. I don't recall any details, but if true that is evidence they have near-practical prototypes. Also, Miura announced they will have cold fusion reactors by 2025, which is soon. There is not technical evidence, but that is what Clean Planet and Miura are saying. Here is the Clean Planet slide:


    One of their reactors has been running since May 2021, over a year, at the one office location. I do not know if that is the 1KW generator that was stated as beginning proto-type testing in May 2021.


    Clean Planet has proven they can make big heat, reporting publicly 200-300 Watts excess, and now, not bothering to report big heat, but reporting little heat, repeatedly generated to test parameters. It is a new level of research.

    Need another analogy for a technology developing before full-understanding of the mechanism behind it is achieved? Look no further than AI.

    Posting something or other on a preprint service can be worthwhile if, in the end, it gives rise to an actual published work subjected to real peer review. But it is not worthwhile if it is used to lend a faux aura of science to poor work, or nonsense, or malevolent fakery. If this is what happens, then it is literally pseudoscience.


    No one takes ResearchGate or other preprint services seriously as ultimate destinations for genuine science. Fighting it through peer review to publication is just as hard. Wyttenbach definitely needs help writing and if you are doing that then more power to you. But why go through that hard work unless your intention is to end up with a real publication instead of something pseudo?

    published back in 2013. Your friends in academia may snub the Open Science option, but LENR scientists were forced to this avenue. The thing to do is look at the data, not the label, and take it from there.

    Clean Planet is leading the globe in LENR R&D and at ICCF24 presented their strategy for both developing a technology and nailing down the science of the reaction itself.


    Hideki Yoshino built the group in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster and seemingly has marshaled all of Japan to support Solid State Energy, a.k.a. Quantum Hydrogen Energy, a.k.a. Metal Hydrogen Energy, a.k.a. LENR.


    No longer is it hit-or-miss to just get a reaction. Excess thermal power in the range of 200-300 Watts has been reported by Clean Planet and Tohoku scientists in the past, but now, researchers are now regularly making the reaction happen at will, testing parameters during repeated runs, and finding patterns on the similar outcomes.

    It will take some time to sift through all of these presentations, but another pattern emerging seems to be adding elements like CaO and oxidization to create dislocations and cracks which is claimed to initiate and enhance the reaction.


    Clean Planet reported a 1kW proto-type commercial boiler design has been in testing since May 2021. Also, a heating unit has been running continuously since May 2021 with no hydrogen fuel added since the initial saturation. They plan a commercial product by the year 2025. See

    I do not get the sense they believe there is something there. I get the sense they are playing political games, but I cannot image what games, or what purpose they serve. Judging by the Nature editorial that was published with the paper, this was a crude hatchet job intended to make people think cold fusion does not exist.     The Google paper in Nature was a masterpiece of obfuscation, misdirection, and confusion. I think I know what they did -- sort of -- because I asked them, and I heard

    I do believe I heard those exact words, originally written, during the conference. From who? I do not know. Maybe Matt Trevithick? I will have to look out for that in the video talks.


    I did not like the way that paper was written and I would have to review it again to say why. I remember it was within reading the first couple paragraphs I had a sinking feeling. But whatever you are thinking their intention is, look what is the result. There exist some researchers who see this paper as a reason to initiate research in LENR. This was stated at the conference. People are using this paper to justify a research proposal. I am baffled too, but this is how it is. I wonder how many got this jumpstart? I wonder who is still waiting for another sign? What will it take?


    Artifacts have services and disservices. We could list them all out but the google paper performed a service of activating other research efforts.

    Eight decades since computers were invented in 1945. By 1950 people knew about them. They began having a large impact around 1960. Bill Gates, I, and many others learned how to use them in the mid-1960s. Microcomputers (later called personal computers) that were cheap enough for ordinary folks to buy emerged in the late 1970s.

    That is a good question. When do we define the start of the revolution? It isn't one moment. I guess I was thinking about it in terms of the societal applications that were the final straw in breaking the old institutions, when us ordinary folks got involved.

    I do not think the paper said that. It said the experiments are challenging and worth doing on their own merits. It gave no hint that they think cold fusion is real. The Nature editorial that accompanied the paper was a hatchet job no better than any of the other hatchet jobs Nature has published since 1989. There was no softening, no concessions, or no indication they know anything about the research.

They are not stopping. google will continue, because they believe there is something there. The presenter Ben Barrowes remarked about the google paper, and how it made him think he could propose something because of that exact sentiment. He got that sentiment from the paper. He is not alone, as Scott Hsu said as much. This is how the google Nature paper had an impact, despite not being what the LENR community had hoped for.

    Ben Barrowes CRREL US Army Research was at the ICCF1 in Salt Lake City when he was 16 years old. He found a sense of wonder, that we could try to figure out some of though secrets of the universe and he went into electrical engineering. He worked in the Army trying to find unexploded bombs underground.

    A new program is starting up. Army got more interested recently. He wanted to do a replication of HIVER, Oliver B's project. Here's the layout:


    They have not had a full experiment, but now that funding is flowing, they will do more than just turn it on.


    Another thing they are interested in doing is Palladium Laser following Biberian and Mastromatteo. This is preliminary, they just wanted to see what would happen, but they are planning more tighter situations.


    He looked at the locations where the lasers hit, and at first he didn't see anything, but when he looked closer, there were little tiny spots. He looked at them under SEM, and saw that under the Blue laser, there is a crater and a debris field, and other elements that weren't there before.


    Looking at the red laser spot, there was no nickel (like the blue spot) but more calcium and silicon.


    CR-39 shows activity, but not where you would expect near where the lasers were. he does not know what made the patch showing on the detector and asks, does anybody know?



    This is the first year of a three-year funding situation for Barrowes. He feels there is a sea-change in attitudes and optimistic about forwarding the research.

    Oliver B from the Navy NAVSEA Warfare Centers and DARPA on the HIVER Electrochemistry Energy Project Results. He shows a US cold fusion timeline with DOE, SPAWAR, DOE NRL...


    There are issues and potential solutions. He puts a broad teaxm together from National Research Labs, Industry and Academia.

    Cells are Pt wires electrodes, heavy LiCl salt, PdCl2 salt, with 0.25 Tesla magnets. There is a Seebeck sensor roaming around the room for people to look at. CR-39 is used in their hot electrochemical experiments. Many tracks found on experimental runs and a lack of nuclear tracks on control runs.


    A statistical approach revealed the level of background neutrons. Background goes up and down in the lab. He needs more detectors though, situated around the lab getting neutron counts in real time.


    The model he is following at this time: Electochemically plated lattice structure w/Vacancies to Electron chemical deuterium loading in lattice to Parametric pumping through applied DC current to DD reaction. After experiments there is material analysis. No transmutations were found.


    He shows one run where an anomalous 5 Watts are present. RF was detected during experiments, including 330 MHz which others have reported that frequency also.

    Charles Martin Calculation Consoting, USA talks on AI and LENR. He has done 15 years of Machine Learning and AI.


    A tool he has developed for AI for climate change will be discussed. AI also called Deep Learning is being applied in a lot of areas, nuclear fusion, protein folding, for example. Many people do not know how AI works, even engineers who do it. But they don't care, they keep using it to solve problems. But if you don't know how it works, you can turn this into a full-fledged engineering application. AI theory uses ideas of statistical mechanics and new concepts too.


    He has an equation and it is complicated. It took him three years to figure out. He can predict trends in the quality of state-of-the-art neural networks without access to training or testing data. They can make specific predictions about what people are doing in industry.


    Carbon Corp uses AI to look at your land and assess whether or not you are eligible for carbon credits. Training the AI to get that level of accuracy is what they are doing.


    In LENR there are millions of data points, so you have to train AI to work without looking at the data, he says. When the system is learning, the eigenspectrum of layers of ____ becomes more correlated.


    To use this method, you need to pick a model that would be as close and relevant to what you were doing. You can use his tool to select a model. They can detect problems layer-by-layer. (Layer of what? I am wondering.)


    A hedge fund is training a model to predict the market, but apparently too much training the model degrades. A python tool analyzes fat tails in deep Neural networks.


    Ultimately, google has solved a basic physics question, but the AI is not ready to work on the LENR theory. However, someone who knows Python and LENR could work on a program that would be able to determine - oh, this material will be active, or, this material won't be active. A theory of LENR, at this point, still requires humans.
