QuoteMaterials vary greatly in the way they emit infrared light when heated. This property is called “emissivity” and ranges from 0 for empty space to 1 for a perfect “black body” radiant surface. Our most important finding was that the Optris thermal camera needed an emissivity setting in the range of 0.95 in order to match the same range of temperatures seen by the thermocouples and the dual wavelength pyrometer.
