NASA’s Lattice Confined Fusion (LCF)

THHuxleynew , I don’t know if you realized that the experiment done by NASAs Gus Fralick (which has been discussed in this thread) in 1989 that found spontaneous excess energy when Deuterium flowed through the wall of a Johnson Matthey Hydrogen purificator tubing of PdAg, was replicated several times and peer reviewed published in December 2020 (also presented by Theresa Benyo at ICCF 24th). This research is being conducted by NASA within the Lattice Confinement Fusion work team, so they clearly think these results are related to the LCF work, yet it invokes no high energy particles and it happens spontaneously when deuterium traverses the PdAg lattice. Note that this work has been also replicated with hydrogen, albeit the excess heat is of less magnitude. No emissions of any kind have been registered in these experiments.
I was recently made aware by Mark U of somewhat similar results with hydrogen pushed through the lattice of a Nickel tubing at 1000 psig pressure, based on Mills ideas, where the excess heat was also spontaneous. -

I don’t see this necessarily as trouble of the kind that can result in failure to get the patent granted, but it can result in the need of providing a working apparatus.

A familiar Catch 22 for the field, that has been a major impediment to gaining acceptance, and the holy grail of the IP protection needed for deeper investor commitment.
To their credit, the law firm representing Pines (NASA) countered though, that the applicant/s did in fact provide sufficient information for replication by those skilled in the art...with the caveat they have the necessary Nuclear Fusion background. Kind of an insult to the examiner, although a necessary one IMO.
We will see how this plays out, and hopefully Ahlfors keeps us informed. The EPO obviously knows they are up against NASA, and a possibly profound game changing development that would have a huge impact for both the space industry, and here on earth if real. They do not want to be on the wrong side of history, but then again, the EPO examiner has clearly staked his ego on his being right.
Eventually, as history proves time and again, the science will prevail, but often times, politics (and ego) can delay the process.

..."attempt to metabolize the probe".
Makes perfect sense, if you think in microbial life, that would attach itself to the surfaces exposed to contact with the surrounding liquid medium, and potentially be able to degrade it, depending on their metabolical abilities. It may seem far fetched to you, but you can find litholitic bacteria deep in the Earth's mantle, so anyone with basic Astrobiology formation expects to find at least bacteria.

When the people of Earth are the aliens inserting probes where extraterrestrials metabolize then we have really have gone next level

We already knew about this initiative, this is more of a PR campaign for getting support for it, which is good news any way.

If it gets some attention, I am all for a little PR. Not sure it will work though. ICCF24 was as newsworthy an event as any, yet attracted literally no media interest. Not that the organizers did not do their part trying to make that happen. Always worth a try though.
Not sure what it will take to finally be noticed. Maybe a "sex sells" campaign? We already considered making LENR "glamorous", so why not take it to the next level?

The 1997 movie “The Saint” featured “glamorous and sexy” Elizabeth Shue as the Cold Fusion scientist everyone was out to get. A couple of hot scenes of her on that movie, so one might say it was already tried 😆
