    I think it is telling that the above article is written from the point of view of employability within academia, and not in terms of all the damage done to scientific knowledge because of issues arising from topic demarcation.

  • I found this interesting since I majored in Engineering Physics, which blurs the boundary. And I have applied it in multiple industries, including biotech. I don't think there is much damage from "demarcation". There are plenty of hybrid studies like biophysics, geophysics (which I loved my coursework in), astrophysics, etc.
