If only the market can prove the validity of LENR, then give it up. An energy-generating technology based on some sort of nuclear reaction will NEVER be permitted on the market without it being extensively tested, vetted and approved by regulating bodies. If the paranoid geniuses who allegedly have the technology in hand will not permit such testing, they will be limited entirely to staging phony extravaganzas in Florida strip malls strictly for the benefit of delusional cult members. Of course, we are only talking about the real world here. In your fictional universe, results may vary.

The Rossi flock are not a religion. One can argue with followers of a religion to better understand their view of the world. The Rossi flock is a cult. It is utterly pointless to discuss anything with a cultist since the only voice they hear is that of their Fearless Leader.

Zephir: you are mixing up the act of saying something about someone (the alleged instance of libel) with a legal matter (suing someone for libel.) Burden of proof is a legal concept, not a practical one. And if the so-called libelous statements are true, then there is no victim. There is simply the subject of an accurate statement.

When you are put in charge of the legal system, free free to change how all this works.

AA, it is interesting that you seem to consider defending and trying to rationalize the actions of a pathological liar and serial con artist to be doing something of value for the world. Perhaps it will take years for you to finally come to the realization that at best you are utterly wasting your time and at worst are helping to prolong a scam that victimizes both hapless investors and legitimate researchers trying to validate their own work. But kudos for feeling good about yourself. Too bad positive thoughts about repulsive things don’t make them any better.

Axil: “You might think about volunteering as the first interstellar journey test subject.”

I think it may be too late for that honor. All one has to do is read your posts from the last several days to conclude that you are already on another planet.

Axil: “There is a dozen different methods to use LENR for a commercial product. Over the years Rossi has been jumping from one method to the next to find the ideal solution to the LENR reactor configuration. Each solution that Rossi has come up with has had its own unique issues that worked against its application to a commercial product. In each case, Rossi had to develop the produce fairly much to the end to check for it usability in the marketplace.”

You would have to cover half the state of Montana to find that much bullshit again.

Roseland67: IH and I are talking about ecatnews, not e-catworld. The former is a defunct website that started out as one of at least 17 sites fawning over Rossi in 2011 that strongly discouraged any negativity. Eventually, the proprietor of that site saw the light with respect to Rossi and it became a place for skeptics to ridicule Rossi believers and only the most rabid ones still spent time there tilting at windmills. Eventually, the proprietor was too disgusted by the time and energy wasted on this ridiculous subject and shut the site down. E-catworld also started as one of the 17 sites fawning over Rossi and has never changed its tune.

Eric, your comments on the long-term educational effect are correct. In fact, what distinguishes one cycle from the next is the number of supporters and, in related fashion, the number of the most pious. Clearly, the former has been dropping steadily over the years. Whether the latter is a stable number or is somewhere on an asymptotic curve remains to be seen. I do believe that there is a core group that will take faith in the e-cat to their graves regardless of real-world events.

For historical reasons, it is too bad that ecatnews has vanished into internet oblivion. Otherwise, one could page through memory lane and see about 6 completed cycles of Rossi Big Event history. The pattern is well-established.

    1) Rossi announces an upcoming pivotal event

    2) Rossi supporters become very excited and conveniently forget everything that happened in the past. They proclaim that skeptics will soon be eating crow by the bucketful.

    3) Supporters and skeptics argue vociferously for weeks on end before the "event"

    4) The event happens and it is sort of what was anticipated but not quite

    5) Supporters are ecstatic declaring the dawn of a new age

    6) Skeptics and non-combatants alike point out glaring problems with "the event" until it is clearly revealed as meaningless

    7) Supporters gradually retreat to relative silence

    8) Rinse and repeat

Of course, the most pious never really get to step 7 and still consider all the previous sham events as meaningful. This is not likely to change.

This is not a court room. Libel is a legal matter between a plaintiff and a defendant. It is not the business of managers of a blog. For that matter, things said about Rossi by strangers are not your business either. If they offend you, don’t read them.

    libel

    1) n. to publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others. Libel is the written or broadcast form of defamation, distinguished from slander, which is oral defamation. It is a tort (civil wrong) making the person or entity (like a newspaper, magazine or political organization) open to a lawsuit for damages by the person who can prove the statement about him/her was a lie. Publication need only be to one person, but it must be a statement which claims to be fact and is not clearly identified as an opinion.

No worries about the stuff that infuriates you. You just need to wait for Rossi to prove that he is not a liar and a fraud. Good luck.

JulianBianchi: you are making comments about the physics of the Ecat QX device. As far as I am aware, the entire body of knowledge about this gizmo is an unhelpful photograph of some sort of blue glowing thing and a bunch of outlandish claims about its performance by Rossi without a single scrap of information about what it actually IS. There is nothing whatsoever known (or even mentioned) about what it actually is. So, please share with us some of your insights into this mystery device. I am sure many here would love to hear the details you seem to think are known.

AA, every “fact” you state about the E-Cat QX is simply parroting whatever Rossi says. There is not a single bit of corroboration for any of it from any other source. Thus, your quote about you waiting for facts is absurd. You are entirely faith-based when it comes to Rossi. Admit it; the truth will set you free!
