NASA’s Lattice Confined Fusion (LCF)

There is also 770,000 tonnes of depleted uranium stored in the USA
and not so many Middle East wars to get rid of it.
That is maybe the catch! Just imagine what will happen if the tech works and they (the military) will start using it on planet earth and not only outer space. I.e. for autonomous, not manned nuclear subs.

There an obvious format error in this text:
QuoteUnder high pressure and ambient temperature, a sample is loaded with deuterium gas—an isotope of hydrogen with one proton and one neutron—at densities approaching 1023 ions/cm3
This should of course be:
"1023 ions/cm3 "

In general this is a big step towards better understanding how hydrogen stored in metal lattices can cause nuclear reactions, fusions or transmutations.
What has been shown in many practical experiments without understanding has now been scientifically reproduced.
NASA's team worked on this subject for a long time. They must have done thousands of experiments with all kinds of metals and methods.
Their choice of Erbium is interesting, hopefully they will motivate this a bit more in next publications.
What I would like to know is what the atomic state of the Deuterium within the Erbium lattice is (common or ultra dense).
It's not only a scientific breakthrough, but undoubtedly also will have investment and budget consequences.
LENR science got a big kick upwards!

I am sorry to say that, but the term "Green" to be used for such a technology is missleading or in other words "propaganda" from the nuclear industry.
In my view we want to develop a LENR technology which is SAFE (no or only minor critical emissions, no dangerous waste, no use of dangerous materials), uses abudant materials, can be applied decentralized and is carbon free.
IMO such a technology using U238 is only of theoretical value, but for no practical application.
IMO, It would be of NO advantage for the LENR technology, which should be a real alternativ or paradigm shift in future energy systems.
Carbon free isn't the right words you are looking for more like green house and toxic gas emission free. If device produces 100s of kilowatts decentralized and emit the equivalent of a harmless fart the device should be considered green.

Anyone was able to read the full article and see what comments brought up?

New popular mechanics article about NASA’s lattice confined fusion, very positive.

This is of course not our usual LENR as they use gamma rays to drive the reaction, but hey, it’s within a metal lattice,
Muon-Surrogate Catalyzed Fusion was discussed by Zuppero/Dolan in 2017

The D_D interaction with isotopes such as Erbium 167 looks like some kind of cold fusion mechanism
The erbium results appear to have been known since 2015..
Final publication in a physics journal took over a year
the Forsley ""“What we did was not cold fusion,” explanation may be a consequence of the peer review process..
https://arxiv.org/pdf/1704.00694.pdf..
However these are all explanations which have not been tested.

It is- Erbium is a proton donor, show it an acceptor and you can make music.

It's very relevant this work from NASA, however AR is using rather his secret catalyst as.. how to say "resonator" that allows him to switch gamma photons by only IRs photons.
Once again, i do not looking for to defend him but i know so much from him, i can talk easily.

Maybe NASA are looking into how much lower they can go than 2 Mev
You forget Holmlid..
maybe a Nd-YAG laser... only 18 kg.. 2.3eV photons
