Covid-19 News

  • Nonsense. Have you ever heard of the innate immune system that is an antigen-independent defense mechanism with no immunological memory? Of Pattern Recognition Receptors (PPRs) to detect and respond rapidly to a virus infection (in minutes not days)?

Nope- never did hear of it. I heard about interferons but I don't recall the details. I will have to check out interferons or maybe you can provide a link to "PPRs" and how they would work against a coronavirus or any virus.

Actually more and more evidence suggest that most asymptomatic people did [develop antibodies] not though the exact proportion remains unknown because of the lack of widespread testing.

OK - so please answer this: if someone has no symptoms and no antibodies, how would anyone know they had been infected? In rare cases, you might catch somebody with a positive RT PCR test who had neither symptoms nor antibodies but a) that would give you no idea of the prevalence of such people in the population and b) would be relative rare and hard to detect. I doubt experiments to examine this issue have been done but I could be wrong. Know of any? Finally, does a person with a positive PCR test, negative antibodies, and no symptoms really "have the disease?" Maybe they are simply carrying the virus around (asymptomatic carrier) as happens in other infections.

  • so please answer this: if someone has no symptoms and no antibodies

specific RNA test,, for the virus gives some indication.. this bat virus is fairly aggressive

RT-PCR ,as used in Wuhan in the relevant report .. also it is used up countless noses recently..

PCR invented 1983.. Maybe SOT missed that lecture?

  • This elusive antibody free immune response is probably why there is no vaccine for the common cold which spreads asymptomatically in the same way as COVID-19 which already seems to have 30-40 mutant variations on the gene theme. Which makes the vaccination approach far less likely to be successful since we would need specific vaccines against all these variants to be effective. Nightmare scenario. This bat virus seems to be one step ahead of the molecular biologists/virologists. robert bryant maybe it's time to work up a paper on the pandemic statistics in third world countries as you suggested - some quantitative analysis to put on researchgate or medarchx now the statistics are all there and the data is incontrovertible? And patent our Anti Bat shotgun solution to this pandemic.:)

  • maybe it's time to work up a paper on the pandemic statistics in third world countries

I am waiting for the clinical Costa Rica hydroxychloroquine results..

they are not 3rd world and they have a functional national healthcare system

unfortunately they have been too good

at flattening the curve so there may not be enough data.

They have held the death toll to 6 for the last eight days..

  • What do you think about those who are exposed to the virus, but never develop antibodies, and how they as a group would affect R0 and herd immunity? Not sure if there is even such a category, but as you know, some of the tight knit communities hit hard by COVID, and subsequently tested, generally were found to have only about 15% with antibodies.

Within the tight confines of an aircraft carrier, cruise ship, small town, or a 3 generation household, escaping exposure would seem unlikely, yet ~85% showed no antibodies. Remarkable, considering that before the first person fell ill (3-13 day incubation), they would have likely compromised all others via the viral contact transmission chain. Possibly, they missed a sufficient viral dose to trigger their bodies defense, or somehow missed any exposure at all...but unlikely IMO.

So if there is such a group, and they are resistant to the virus, but when tested show no antibodies, I am curious how they are to be accounted for in all this? Example being; it is said we need 60-70% to achieve herd immunity, but that is determined by the number of people showing antibodies.

25% of NY displayed antibodies. So your 85% (15% antibody) guess is wrong.

You could hope that 75% of people have strong enough immune systems to fight the virus off with innate response. But then, they are vulnerable again to another wave and maybe won't fight it off then - depending on many things including (known to be relevant) size of initial dose.

Anyway, going up to 25% infection through the US would be much much higher than current levels, so this is not relevant to decisions about lockdown or not at current level.

  • Wyttenbach keeping Avigan in because we need to treat a broad spectrum of antiviral to fight a broad spectrum of Corona virus variants. Besides, post Avigan distribution in Germany has improved the stats there no end. It never was just due to social distancing in China and S Korea that has brought their pandemics under control as Ferguson' s epidemiologist group would have you believe. All their citizens have access to any antiviral medication they need, or have built up their own stockpiles 'just in case'. It's just hard boiled stupidity, arrogance and fear of litigation that the same has not been adopted in the UK and US but out of necessity will undoubtedly eventually be employed.:)

  • Ok then we'll not include Costa Rica in the survey, what about Venezuela? They have a massive test claim but v few cases or deaths - maybe their screwed up government is massaging their stats? Is this true of the rest of the third world that they are keeping the lid on millions of expected deaths as occurred in the 1918 flu pandemic? Unlikely they are all at it, if that were the case there would be very high case numbers and deaths in e.g. Kenya compared to Uganda for instance.

  • THHuxleynew agreed, but it's a very difficult task to demonstrate how effective the vaccine will be. By September we might have another 40 to the power n more genetically variant mutations. Lucky rhesus monkeys in the test group, pity about the controls. Encouraging news though from our brightest and best.

  • Ten patients of the 175 studied — 6% — didn't have any detectable coronavirus antibodies in their systems.

mething like 10-20% have no symptoms even after 10 days of infection..

Nonsense. Have you ever heard of the innate immune system that is an antigen-independent defense mechanism with no immunological memory? Of Pattern Recognition Receptors (PPRs) to detect and respond rapidly to a virus infection (in minutes not days)?

Around 2003 the basic human cell immune system has been decoded. It works by RNA interference see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RNA_interference Basically short snippets if RNA typical shorter or equal than 21 bases are scanned and compared with a memory. If a match is found the a signaling cascade starts. This is the famous proof of the one molecule causing a response action. Nobel prize 2006.

The action of big pharma was immediate. They ultimately tried to stop the spread of this information by offering the two teams, that had all the knowledge 2 extra large golden cages. This is the reason why the public and even most doctors do not have the appropriate knowledge of basic immunology. Around 2010 even the chief immunologist of Switzerland had no clue of this...

Now if a RNA virus enters the cell then it typically decays into snippets that are replicated individually. If one snippet now recognized (contains a known warning pattern) then the final virus cannot be rebuilt because one small snipped will be missing due the replication blockage.

I know in the US currently, practically everything doctors can think of is being used in patients with COVID-19 who seem to be doing badly.

How many of them have the guts to prescribe Ivermectin ?? Do you give it?? 1 Million lawyers are waiting for your mistake even if the healed victim dies in a follow up car accident they will say it's due to your wrong mediation.

There is a new comparison of deaths in New York state compared to a normal year. There have been ~20,873 excess deaths, probably all attributable to the coronavirus. There have been 16,673 deaths attributed to coronavirus, so there were ~4,200 others that probably should have been. In other words, they are only counting about 80% of the actual cases.

What will you say in 6 months when 3000 deaths /month are missing because covid-19 just predates the live of some really sick people? Will you explain us then the health effect of corona?? Corona is not a regular disease that affects all the healthy ones too. But if you live in a sick country that is ruled by the most sick people, then such sick logic is no surprise!

Did you know that more that 1 mio people are more healthy after the Chernobyl event ? Strange..!

I did post here about 6 weeks ago that the US should lock in all the old and sick people but as said many folks here did mix the freedom to kill themselves with the right to kill the neighbor...

This is nonsense squared. I follow the WHO announcements. They, and some others said that in a few cases, recovered patients can be re-infected.

You should not make up nonsense and post it here.

You should read German, UK, French, Swiss newspapers too. Our mafia wants too see strict rules with masks, mobile tracking etc.. They just tell that WHO does not support to give the people a confirmation to move free (no mask no tacking!!) after they managed a corona infection. These guys have only one argument the WHO!! It's again you that does only rely on your buddies information and not on what your buddies tell the common people.

  • A severe case of under reporting

In North America.... Haiti has the lowest rate of testing at 68/Million Costa Rica has 2487/million.

Both countries have recorded 6 deaths.

Maybe Haiti might have missed a few..

If Dr Richard has any guestimate on Ivermectin ... pls tell. or is this pure speculation?

Can Dr Richard confirm that Haiti has nationwide functional healthcare system?

    https://www.miamiherald.com/ne…iti/article238041194.html

All I am certain of is that CR has systematic dosing of hydroxychloroquine to most suspected/confirmed Covid patients .. most of whom

now go to one new dedicated hospital.

  • Per capita, Haiti spends about US$83 annually on health care. There are 25 physicians and 11 nurses per 100,000 population. Only one-fourth of births are attended by a skilled health professional. Most rural areas have no access to health care, making residents susceptible to otherwise treatable diseases.

Whilst the Dominican Republic (just next door) has over 6000 cases and 282 deaths. The poorer section of society here have zero healthcare too but have a lower incidence of HIV. Maybe the low cases in Haiti are due to state or US-sponsored anti HIV campaigns, more freely available antihelminthics (against hookworm & other nematode parasites. Like ivermectin.

  • That's the trouble, none of the worldometer data is reliable particularly if countries are trying to protect their tourist trade. Even UK figures only report hospital recorded deaths. Well then there's China.........

Crisis Hits Dominican Republic Over Deaths of U.S. Tourists ...

    www.nytimes.com › 2019/06/23 › dominican-republic-to...

23 Jun 2019 - News of the deaths of at least nine American tourists in the Dominican ... groundskeepers from Haiti cared for the manicured gardens outside.
