  • Does Covid-19 impact male fertility? Experts urge caution about new evidence

    https://news.google.com/articl…=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen

This report provides the first direct evidence to date that COVID-19 infection impairs semen quality and male reproductive potential," the study said.

However, experts not involved in the study were immediately skeptical about the report's conclusion and urged caution in overgeneralizing the research findings.

I need to raise a strong note of caution in their interpretation of this data. For example, the authors state that their data demonstrates that 'COVID-19 infection causes significant impairments of male reproductive function' yet it only actually shows an association," said Allan Pacey, a professor of andrology at The University of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom, via email.

"Being ill from any virus such as flu can temporarily drop your sperm count (sometimes to zero) for a few weeks or months. This makes it difficult to work out how much of the reductions observed in this study were specific to COVID-19 rather than just from being ill," said Dr. Channa Jayasena, a consultant in reproductive endocrinology and andrology at Imperial College London, in an email.

In addition, "it is important to note that there is no evidence of Covid-19 virus in the semen and that there is no evidence that virus can be transmitted via semen," said Alison Murdoch, who heads Newcastle Fertility Centre at the International Centre for Life, Newcastle University in the UK, via email.

  • Novavax’s Vaccine Works Well — Except on Variant First Found in South Africa

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/0…novavax-south-africa.html

Novavax, a little-known company supported by the U.S. federal government’s Operation Warp Speed, said for the first time on Thursday that its Covid-19 vaccine offered robust protection against the virus. But it also found that the vaccine is not as effective against the fast-spreading variant first discovered in South Africa, another setback in the global race to end a pandemic that has already killed more than 2.1 million people.

That could be a problem for the United States, which hours earlier reported its first known cases of the contagious variant in two unrelated people in South Carolina. And it came just days after Moderna and Pfizer said that their vaccines were also less effective against the same variant.

  • Long Covid' still puzzles doctors but treatment is possible

    https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/0…eat-long-covid/index.html

Doctors have reported that the severity of Covid-19 illness may have little impact on whether patients experience long Covid symptoms, Hernandez-Romieu said.

Dr. Allison Navis, an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, said one of the most common symptoms of long Covid is called "brain fog."

"Brain fog is a symptom. It is not a diagnosis, and it means many different things to different people," Navis said. "Oftentimes it's a combination of short-term memory issues, concentration, or word-finding speech difficulty."

Navis said brain fog does not appear to have a clear connection to the severity of Covid-19 infection, age or other risk factors. She said doctors have observed these symptoms in younger patients -- including children and adolescents -- who had mild coronavirus and were previously healthy.

In the absence of a broad diagnosis or treatment plan for people who experience long Covid, doctors have been targeting specific symptoms for treatment, Navis said.

    Treating the symptoms

"For brain fog, we don't have treatments for cognitive changes, unfortunately, so it's really addressing any abnormalities in blood work that could be contributing, addressing those other contributing factors like sleep and mood," she said. "If attention is a major issue, medications that can help with attention might be needed."

For issues with the sympathetic nervous system, which controls the body's "flight or fight" response, Navis said meditation and breathing techniques can be helpful. For other issues related to the nervous system, she said increasing hydration can help.

For fatigue, she advises patients take it easy on the exercise. "Don't do anything that causes you to feel worse afterwards."

She also stressed that patients should get enough sleep and look after their mental health.

"We're seeing a lot of different neurological symptoms in these patients," said Navis. "I think it's important to get a broad history to try and see if there's a larger diagnosis that might emerge, instead of getting too much tunnel vision on one specific symptom."

The CDC is working with the National Institutes of Health and World Health Organization to better define and understand long Covid.

  • Coronavirus: Europe’s vaccine delay row worsens as South Africa variant found in US

    https://news.google.com/articl…=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen

Europe’s row with AstraZeneca worsened after Germany declined to recommend the firm’s coronavirus vaccine for older people, while the more contagious South African variant of the virus was detected for the first time in the already hard-hit United States. With antivirus restrictions being tightened worldwide again, the economic toll came into focus with the United States seeing its sharpest contraction in growth since 1946. UN data released on Thursday also said the global tourism sector, battered by border closures and bans on mass gatherings, lost US $1.3 trillion in revenue in 2020. Given the world’s weariness over the pandemic that has now killed some 2.2 million people and infected more than 100 million, countries have been anxious to expedite vaccination campaigns.

  • 'Covid tongue' may be another coronavirus symptom, British researcher suggests

Some patients report tongue discoloration, enlargement and other mouth problems

'Covid tongue' may be another coronavirus symptom, British researcher suggests

Some patients report tongue discoloration, enlargement and other mouth problems.

Of that group, 11 percent had inflammation of the small bumps on the tongue's surface; 6 percent had a swollen and inflamed tongue with indentations on the side; 6 percent had mouth ulcers; 4 percent had "patchy" areas on the tongue; and 4 percent had tissue swelling in the mouth.

  • This sounds like Sjögren’s syndrome

    Sjögren’s syndrome

Sjögren’s syndrome results in the destruction of the saliva glands. When this occurs, you may develop dry mouth, which in turn can lead to tongue inflammation.

Low levels of vitamin-D are associated with neuropathy and lymphoma among patients with Sjögren’s syndrome

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/…abs/pii/S0896841112000856

    Conclusions

In this study, low levels of vitamin-D correlated with the presence of peripheral neuropathy and lymphoma among SS patients. The link between vitamin-D and neuropathy or lymphoma was reported in other conditions, and may support a role for vitamin-D in the pathogenesis of these processes. Plausible beneficial

  • Covid-19 Is Looking More and More Like an Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmunity may explain how the virus inflicts such widespread and unpredictable damage

    https://elemental.medium.com/c…mune-disease-b6c563f8da24

Throughout the pandemic, doctors have noticed a confounding phenomenon: A lot of people infected by the coronavirus develop myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart that can cause lasting damage and death.

Even among people who have mild Covid-19 or who are asymptomatic, experts have found evidence of heart inflammation. A July study published in JAMA Cardiology found that 60% of coronavirus patients had active myocarditis two months after their initial infection. Remarkably, the study found that this inflammation was as common among people who recovered at home as it was among those who required hospitalization. (Myocarditis can often go undetected; its symptoms can be subtle and include shortness of breath, chest pain, and a fluttering heart.)

  • Carvativir Tests For COVID-19: A Traditional Herb Created By Catholic Holy Doctors Criticized By World Health Experts

    https://voi.id/en/news/29130/c…d-by-world-health-experts

series of doctors questioned the benefits of Cartivir. According to them, there is no strong scientific evidence that proves the efficacy of Carvativir to treat COVID-19.

"It has been through a nine month study period, experiment, clinical application. To the sick, to the very sick, to the incubated person. And we recovered them," said Maduro, quoted by Reuters, 27 January.

Maduro added that the Carvativir liquid was a magic drop that Jose Gregorio Hernandez made. Hernandez is a 19th-century Venezuelan doctor who was made a saint by the Roman Catholic Church last year.

Even so, Maduro did not specify the active ingredients in Carvativir. Maduro said only that Carvativir had been tested on many patients in hospitals in Caracas and a sports center that was being turned into an emergency medical facility.

Meanwhile, the Venezuelan Ministry of Health has not provided a statement directly regarding Carvativir.

  • Hydroxychloroquine may have some use to treat COVID after all, NJ study shows

    https://amp.northjersey.com/amp/4247506001

A new Hackensack Meridian Health study shows that people with mild symptoms of COVID-19 may be helped by a controversial drug that had been widely used in the early days of the pandemic before several studies questioned its benefits and safety.

The recently published study looked at a group of people treated as outpatients last year and found that those who received an anti-inflammatory drug, hydroxychloroquine, which is often used for malaria, were significantly less likely to end up in the hospital. Doctors who conducted the study say the findings suggest that it should be tested further.

"We make it clear we can't recommend it to be given," said Andrew Ip, a lymphoma physician and director of the Division of Outcomes and Value Research at the John Theurer Cancer Center, part of the Hackensack Meridian system. "This is only an observational study. We can only recommend it in the context of a clinical trial. There may be a benefit for using this drug in an outpatient setting."

In silico study the inhibition of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 receptor of COVID-19 by Ammoides verticillata components harvested from Western Algeria.

    https://europepmc.org/article/med/32362217

    Abstract

The objective of this present study is to focus on the in silico study to screen for an alternative drug that can block the activity of the angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) as a receptor for SARS-CoV-2, potential therapeutic target of the COVID-19 virus using natural compounds (Isothymol, Thymol, Limonene, P-cymene and γ-terpinene) derived from the essential oil of the antiviral and antimicrobial plant Ammoides verticillata (Desf.) Briq. which is located in the occidental Algeria areas. This study reveals that Isothymol, a major component of this plant, gives the best docking scores, compared to, the co-crystallized inhibitor β-D-mannose of the enzyme ACE2, to Captropil drug as good ACE2 inhibitor and to Chloroquine antiviral drug also involved in other mechanisms as inhibition of ACE2 cellular receptor. In silico (ADME), drug-likeness, PASS & P450 site of metabolism prediction, pharmacophore Mapper showed that the compound Isothymol has given a good tests results compared to the β-D-mannose co-crystallized inhibitor, to Captopril and Chloroquine drugs. Also the other natural compounds gave good results. The Molecular Dynamics Simulation study showed good result for the Isotymol- ACE2 docked complex. This study revealed for the first time that Isothymol is a functional inhibitor of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 activity and the components of essential oils Ammoides verticillata can be used as potential inhibitors to the ACE2 receptor of SARS-CoV-2.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. • WHO team in Wuhan visits hospital that treated early COVID cases

    https://news.google.com/articl…=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen

WUHAN, China (Reuters) - A World Health Organization-led team of experts investigating the origins of COVID-19 on Friday visited a hospital in the Chinese city of Wuhan that was one of the first to treat patients in the early days of the outbreak.

The hospital visit was the team's first in the field after two weeks in quarantine, and a WHO spokeswoman said the group's contacts in Wuhan will be limited to visits organised by their Chinese hosts due to health restrictions.

"The team will go out but they will be bussed to wherever, so they won't have any contact with the community. They will only have contact with various individuals that are being organised as part of the study," WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris told a briefing in Geneva on Friday.

Under these control measures, what's the point?

    a) Flu vax is made in dog tissues with coronaviruses (they cant clean that stuff up which is why they want a new vax paradigm)

    b) Antibody dependent enhancement has been shown in coronaviruses in the past https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/p…5060/pdf/pone.0035421.pdf

    c) SARS-COV-2 could be deadly from fluvax antibodies - resulting in the immune destruction we see. SARS-COV-2 can prime for mRNA vax ADE. All 3 in a vulnerable person could happen. Second dose could be a 4th assault.

    d) mRNA vaccines which effectively make antibodies may result in a rapid ADE with macrophage activation -- triggering of the immune system which is primed

    e) Can we differentiate death from SARS-COV-2 illness from a primed autoimmune attack? Yes, the latter will have widespread destruction not a normal pneumonia. Most colds show swelling and URI like symptoms.

  • Here is some of the data from Israel that was reported on NHK. This confirms that the infection rate is 0.01%, as I recalled.

Israel’s Early Vaccine Data Offers Hope

Initial studies show a significant drop in infections and hospitalizations after just one dose, and very few cases after two. Experts caution that the results are preliminary.

    Published Jan. 25, 2021 Updated Jan. 28, 2021

JERUSALEM — Israel, which leads the world in vaccinating its population against the coronavirus, has produced some encouraging news: Early results show a significant drop in infection after just one shot of a two-dose vaccine, and better than expected results after both doses. . . .

Here is an editorial advocating the use of one vaccine without a booster for now, until the entire vulnerable population gets one dose. This has more technical details than a usual editorial:

  • around the 1st of March the 5th wave will begin and it is going to be devastating, read hope simpson study, DONT IGNORE THIS!

A theory with predictive power, how old school. :) One would think that with increasing sun in the northern hemisphere and a population that is (in greater measure) immunologically experienced there shouldn't be a large wave in March. Last year the US Covid hospitalizations went down in the summer (as people like Trump suggested they might), except in a few places like Georgia iirc. Anyways if March brings in a large wave of hospitalizations then Hope Simpson's theory should be taken much more seriously imo.

  • Here is some of the data from Israel that was reported on NHK. This confirms that the infection rate is 0.01%, as I recalled.

You should read the original report not twisted citations:

    Here: https://spinstrangenesscharm.w…eli-vaccination-campaign/

Summary: To early to make conclusion ( also said in original Hebrew text!)

The current Israel estimate for the Pfizer vaccine is 92% effective. But death/infections do not go in relation with the vaccinated.

There is a high chance that some of the data has been preselected - the same Pfizer already did in the phase 3 study.

The "study"is based on < 1/3 of the people vaccinated so far...Enough room form bad news.

The study is also hiding the main problem - the infection rate among people age >60.

There are other systematic issues like not knowing how many people were already sero positive with no symptoms when they got the jab.

According worldometer the vaccination - compared to other countries - shows no effect at all in number of cases and deaths. But deaths are usually trailing 14-20 days.

Israel is in a lockdown where the case numbers all over the world did significantly drop. Not so in Israel.

  • Good news from Johnosn & Jonson:

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gl…eca-lockdown-end-schools/

A single-dose vaccine, made by the US company Johnson & Johnson, is 100 per cent effective at preventing deaths and hospitalisations from Covid-19.

This means that one month after vaccination, no one who received the vaccine was admitted to hospital or died, regardless of which strain of coronavirus they were exposed to.

In the 44,000-person trial by the company's subsidiary Janssen, based in the Netherlands, they also found the vaccine prevented 66 per cent of moderate to severe cases of Covid-19.

That's all we want. It's the most save vaccine from it's construction so far. Was my recommendation, whenver you need it!

Anti-science kills: From Soviet embrace of pseudoscience to accelerated attacks on US biomedicine

    Peter J. Hotez

    Abstract

The United States witnessed an unprecedented politicization of biomedical science starting in 2015 that has exploded into a complex, multimodal anti-science empire operating through mass media, political elections, legislation, and even health systems. Anti-science activities now pervade the daily lives of many Americans, and threaten to infect other parts of the world. We can attribute the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans from COVID-19, measles, and other vaccine-preventable diseases to anti-science. The acceleration of anti-science activities demands not only new responses and approaches but also international coordination. Vaccines and other biomedical advances will not be sufficient to halt COVID-19 or future potentially catastrophic illnesses, unless we simultaneously counter anti-science aggression.
