Maybe Bayer would donate 1M chloroquine tabs to the UK too. I'll put in a request.

It has occurred to me that if I lived in a country where I thought the health service was likely to get swamped and disfunctional with the number of cases in a few weeks then maybe the logical thing to do is to make sure that I would catch the Corona virus now while there is access to the best care.
Not a great choice to have to consider and hopefully in the UK not a likely scenario.
I have thought this too. Are the people who got it early and needed hospitalization better off for having caught it early, if that’s the right way to put it. There is capacity now. That’s what you want.

Factor in the likelihood of better drugs within 8 weeks (at the moment treatment is no drugs) and staying clean for a bit looks more attractive. Drugs can be given with minimal resources. But it is a tough decision.

I've e-mailed Bayer with a simple request - if they need funds maybe Bill Gates could help out?

Nature paper closes the door on the .'man-made virus' theory mentioned here by fabrice DAVID and others.
-
Not yet verified -this observation came from the real 'front line' and is only 24 hours or so old.
Alan,
So these indicators stay with the patient until the infection clears or immunity is achieved?

Abstract
There is a long trail of research studies testing the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of chloroquine and its derivatives in treating and preventing infection by various coronavirus species. More recent findings have highlighted the possibility of treating patients infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. This review describes the mechanism of coronavirus infection, the mechanism of action of chloroquine, and summarizes the available literature highlighting the efficacy of chloroquine as an anti-coronavirus agent. These findings should encourage the wider scientific community to conduct thorough research on the possible efficacy of chloroquine and its derivatives in treating and preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection.

PS: I am wondering if another antimalarial, Primaquine , should be considered. I have no idea and no time to look into it now. If anyone has the time...

Alan,

Don't know yet. The '3 rings' observation us so new that there is little data to be had. The key thing it seems to show is that the 'wearer' is potentially an asymptomatic carrier.

No he or she wasn't. Throwing in everything but the kitchen sink and having one prediction work out isn't being prophetic any more than a psychic cold reading you is.
Where to start with that? On this forum? In this instance, Trump is simply repeating what some of his experts have told him.
Wyttenbach FACEPALM!
SOT!
I started to state one should be able to read a bit of sarcasm here! But then I got to thinking, with has many opinions and often outlandish statements that are made on this forum, I guess it is harder to detect a bit of humor than normal!
Let's see...how many mafias are there now? Catholic mafia, big pharmacy mafia, Cern mafia, Standard Model Mafia.. .....

Primaquine, mefloquine, quinine, quinidine are all potentially active analogues of chloroquine which should be tested in vitro. Chloroquine and hydroxychloriquine are the only ones tested so far. Better analogues could be developed in time by modifying the basic molecular structure. But there is no time we have to use these medicines ASAP before potentially millions die. Let's stop prevaricating and help the worst affected countries Italy and Iran first if possible.

Just saw over 4K new cases in the U.S. today. It’s making me think our multiplier should go from 1.3 to 1.4

That would have to be empirically determined. All kinds of diseases have cutaneous manifestations including erythema (redness) sometimes in circular patterns. And their persistence varies widely with each illness and sometimes with different patients..

yesterday they warned there will be a spike in part due to test platform throughput upgrade where a backlog of 3-4 days can be processed at once

I am hoping this is due to increased testing, and those cases were there all along, rather than being a sudden increase. Maybe "hoping" is the wrong word?

They who? Who warned this?

They who? Who warned this?
US govt. official during press conference on March-18
She said that Thermo Fisher platform has been upgraded to perform 1000s tests a day so expect the spike when backlog will be processed
